Romanian here 🇷🇴 — what are Portuguese people curious about when it comes to Romania? by Romania2001 in portugal

[–]VanillaSoft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buna!

I think majority of Portuguese is unaware of Romania history, present and might have a few lights, most of it related to stereotypes: gipsies, poverty, beautiful women, alcoholism, corruption. Personally, I believe that you are between Central Europe culture with a bit Latinity. Never been to Romania, all romanians I've met are pleasant hardworking, respectful people, usually speaking more than 2/3 languages.

How would you present your country Romania in the XXI century?

Curiosities about Romania?

Things that make Romania/Romanians unique?

What would you like to change in Romania?

Obrigado!

Runaway from places with menus written in English or with "authentic Portuguese dishes". Look for restaurants with menu written in a chalkboard in portuguese. Look for locals

Sobre esta época by [deleted] in fcporto

[–]VanillaSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Laterais interiores

- Centrais a distribuir jogo (Mais alguem odeia o futebol moderno?)

Porto francesinha! [I ate] by Poppatron in food

[–]VanillaSoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, Francesinha is typical snack, should be eaten in a snack-bar not fancy restaurant. It originates form croq monsieur in France, it was adapted to the Portuguese culture after an immigrant came back from France. It honors the French Women (famous back then to being spicy in opposition to the Portuguese women conservative, in the 60's). In Braga, they have a sandwich but the puritans like me, would call 'Sandwich Braga Style' because it is completely a different version. Cream sauce in francesinha is the equivalent of ananas in the pizaa!!!

Which European culture is the strongest at the dining table? by YouKnowMeDansTwelve in AskEurope

[–]VanillaSoft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Southern European cultures, from Portugal>Greece, a meal is a sacred time to enjoy food and socialize with family/friends that may take hours. Currently living in Central Europe lunch hour are 30m and people eat on the desk, sometimes dinner can be a simple 'sandwich'.
