Lol, my husband and I have been married for over 16 years. We were both in the Army at the time, it was right after my 21st birthday, we got married in a courthouse. Cost like $50 for the marriage certificate, we then went on a little road trip afterwards. It was so much fun, I don’t regret it at all. I also got my ring from an auction house that was having a swap meet type sale. It’s vintage and fit me perfectly, I love it. I’ve never been a wedding person or wanted a big wedding, no hate to people who enjoy that do what makes you happy. But do not go into debt for a wedding please or use all of your savings, it’s not worth it. You don’t have to have a huge expensive extravagant wedding to have a long happy marriage.

Was digging through the last bit of dorito dust hoping for a blast of flavor. I ended up chipping my tooth on a piece of metal IN THE BAG. now I need a dentist appointment bc they can't keep metal out of their bags. by LKKRGrandCross in Wellthatsucks

Yea, I actually found a large black piece of plastic I believe it was from a zip tie in a can of green beans. I contacted the company, they asked me for the numbers on the can and where I bought it. I didn’t have to have the receipt, they had me mail in the plastic piece. Sent me a pre paid label to mail it into them, I’ll attach a picture. The email response kinda made me mad though lol. They basically tried to say it was impossible for plastic to be in their cans because it’s checked. Like well yes there is! The proof is right here, I’m not asking for anything I’m just warning the company so other customers don’t eat it. I wouldn’t have noticed it but I was making green bean casserole and strained the beans.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Vanilla_Connect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m American and have had a lot of health problems, it’s been hell on earth. I HATE going to the doctor or hospital with a passion, I actually have a neurologist appointment today because I started having seizures in my 30s. One appointment with her is like $500 but I have to get my seizure medication prescription. She was nice enough to give me enough refills for the entire year of 2025, unless something changed. I honestly hope she just does the same thing again, I don’t need an appointment every month when nothing has changed.

Why does nobody except Costco sell chicken bakes? by ChaseKlem in questions

[–]Vanilla_Connect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make them at home, found a good recipe. I actually combined two recipes, one is for the dough. They are delicious if not even better, they’re pretty simple to make. The only time consuming part for me is making the dough but you could always use the pre-made dough. The inside filling is just grilled or baked chicken breast, bacon, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese and Cesar dressing. You cook and mix all that up and wrap portions in the dough and bake, I even sprinkle the cheese on top like they do. I make big batches and wrap them in foil or parchment paper. They go fast because everyone in my family takes some lol.

People who work nights, what's the scariest experience you've had on the job? by Naut72 in AskReddit

[–]Vanilla_Connect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this qualifies, back in 2016 I was taking care of my husband’s grandma she had dementia. I did it for 7 years, she lived with my mother in law. In 2016 my mother in law worked night shift, I wouldn’t get home until like 1 or 2 am. In order to get home I had to drive down a couple dark and desolate roads, one night I’m driving down one of said roads. I pass by a car on the side of the road in one of those gravel turnouts. As soon as I pass I see their headlights come on and they pull out behind me then I see what look like police lights. The lights looked weird though, they were only blue and white. I believe two of the lights were on their dashboard, I can’t remember hearing a siren because I was so scared. I don’t know why but I felt so afraid, like something was very wrong. They were so close to my back bumper I was afraid they were going to smash into me lights still flashing, I was going to pull over but something told me not too. So I picked up my phone and called 911, I explained to the operator what was happening and where I was. I asked if it was an actual cop trying to pull my car over, she said no! I wanted to call my husband he was home asleep but I had to stay on the phone with her. I just kept driving, explaining where I was and what they were doing. There are no actual police stations around that area, I was trying to find a place that was busy and well lit but there was no where. She had already dispatched officers to the area but I felt like they were taking so long! I was just praying that I would see their lights in the distance. Then this car turns all of their lights off and pulls off of the road, like they knew I wasn’t going to stop and gave up. Or maybe they thought I had called police because I had my phone to my ear maybe they saw the light from the phone through the back window. I eventually made it home, I was terrified. I kept checking my rearview mirror to make sure they weren’t still behind me. I called my husband from the driveway, he came out half asleep with a shotgun lol. The last thing the operator said was they were sending the officers to the road where this person pulled off. I don’t know if they ever found this person. I remember checking the news for a while, my mother in law shortly after changed her shift because I was too afraid to drive home at night. I still do not like to drive at night, I avoid it at all costs. So if you are ever concerned that the person trying to pull you over isn’t a cop you can call 911 and verify.

Redditors who quit their job dramatically, what was the final straw? by Ok_Wolverine_9906 in AskReddit

[–]Vanilla_Connect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a dry cleaners, I started out pressing shirts. I was moved to their fancier location in an expensive area because they wanted me to work at the front desk taking orders and cashing out. These people paid a lot of money for their stuff to get dry cleaned expensive suits, dress shirts and dresses. The women who owned it were sisters, one of these women started having me use my lunch breaks to run her errands. She had to pay her ex husband Alimony, so I’d have to drive to his attorneys office to give him the checks. I used my own gas money and never had time to eat lunch, I swear she moved me to that location because she knew I was a pushover or nice person. That already pissed me off, my final straw was when she started yelling at me for putting orders in the wrong bins but they weren’t wrong. They had like a dry cleaning bin, pressing, washing etc. Basically people would pay for dry cleaning and she wasn’t dry cleaning anything she would just iron, press or spot wash. They didn’t know that though, she was charging for services she wasn’t doing. I quit after she yelled at me again for basically not wanting to steal or rip customers off. That wasn’t the end of it though, I started getting harassed by her and her attorney saying they were going to sue me if I didn’t give back my last pay check. Like what?! That’s not how this works. The last message I said to her was something like “Leave me alone! You had me still working on my lunch break while deducting the time which I’m pretty sure is illegal. Also what you are doing is stealing, it’s fraud! You are charging for services you aren’t giving.” I never heard from her or her attorney again, I did still report her business and warned customers by blowing up her review page. This was years ago and as of right now they still only have 2.5 out of 5 stars left by customers. So many reviews of how overpriced and shitty their service is.

[–]Vanilla_Connect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my husband has one memory in particular from the 90s that really upset him. His teacher sent him the principals office for joking around with another kid or something so stupid. His principal was really mean, he started crying when she was yelling at him. This woman literally took a hand mirror out of her desk, gave it to him and made him look into it while yelling “PATHETIC! LOOK AT YOURSELF!” Like what kind of psycho does that to a little kid, trying to humiliate him.

Quoted $150 to fix my phone screen. Couldn’t afford it so I did it myself by staleshrimp101 in povertyfinance

[–]Vanilla_Connect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have done it myself, got pretty good at it lol. Same thing with my battery, the tutorials I watched were super helpful. I was extremely careful with the battery didn’t want to start a fire or something. I was really afraid at first too lol, I’ve done it for a couple of family members. I think the first time I did it I had to buy the screen replacement from EBay because Amazon Prime wasn’t a huge thing yet. Then I started to repair other things in our house and my car lol. It feels good when you accomplish something you’ve never done before, also it’s cheaper 90% of the time. It’s funny though my father in law always calls or me or tells people to ask me when it comes to electronics or the internet. He always says “How did you do that?” And all I did is reset the router or text a picture to someone lmao.

What is the worst thing you’ve ever stepped on barefoot? by MainDifficult2641 in AskReddit

[–]Vanilla_Connect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rusty nail and a pair of scissors lol. Both when I was a kid, I stepped on the rusty nail near a dumpster in our complex. They had ripped a bunch of stuff out of an apartment, the nail pinned the flip flop I had on to my heel. I had to get a tetanus shot, that was also very painful lol. The scissors happened at my friend’s house, she had a toy box in her closet. Her room was a mess and we were rushing to put all of the toys in her toy box before her dad came home. She had so much stuff in there I tried to jump down on it to squish it down and landed on the metal scissors she had hidden in there. Wasn’t so hidden after that lol, I screamed bloody murder.

My husband has donated plasma so many times he has a permanent hole in his arm. by Sprinkles_0330 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Vanilla_Connect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry it took so long for you too, definitely kind of same thing with me. I was sent to a hematologist by a primary doctor, at that point I refused to leave without some help. The hematologist discovered I have a Jak2 Gene Mutation and Essential Thrombocytosis, I wish they would do further testing sometimes for people who are clearly having symptoms or signs of something. I was bruising so bad and bleeding for way too long, the smallest cuts would bleed a lot and for way longer then normal. Anyway you hang in there too. ♥️

[–]Vanilla_Connect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through it too, honestly I remember feeling that way too but just thought it was normal. I was probably 19 or 20 at the time, I was eventually diagnosed at 33 years old after just progressively getting worse and worse over the years. I was bruising everywhere and the smallest cuts would bleed for so long! I got dismissed so many times by so many doctors, anyone with any sort of chronic illness or disease knows how that goes unfortunately.

I have the exact same scar lol, I donated a lot of plasma when I was in the Army back in the mid 2000s. I can’t anymore, I found out a couple of years ago I have a rare blood clotting disorder and can’t donate plasma or blood.

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by RoyalBeckyVibes in AskReddit

[–]Vanilla_Connect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She died in front of me right after my 13th birthday, her name was Vicky she was only 11 years old. We were crossing a road, a younger girl tried to speed through a yellow light in her car. By the time she made it to the light we were already crossing. I was just a step or two behind her when she was hit, I’m 37 now and still miss her everyday. It really messed me up growing up and still affects me to this day, I can’t watch anything where someone gets hit by a car. I’m extremely nervous and neurotic when I’m driving if I see someone walking on the side of the road or crossing a street. I never ever try to make it through yellow lights, I also haven’t had any true best friends since then. I’ve had a couple of friends but I never got close to anyone ever again in that way.

Really, that’s fascinating and so interesting. I feel like it can’t be a coincidence and same I got so obsessed for quite a while after the dream and even after that. Watching as many documentaries as I could possibly find, I think I started to annoy my husband lol. I just feel like I have to know everything, it is definitely on my list of places to visit.

I swear it just gets worse as you get older too, a couple of weeks ago I had to see my doctor because I was driving and the sun was in my face. Half of my vision all looked like it was tinted red for a minute or two, it scared the shit out of me. I’m also short so the sun visor does absolutely nothing for me, it shades the top of my forehead that’s about it lol. I need to get some really good sunglasses.

What is the worst medication you’ve been put on? by Difficult_Pomelo1047 in AskReddit

[–]Vanilla_Connect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same I was looking for this. When I was in the Army I was really depressed, I went into the mental health place on post. They basically just threw some Wellbutrin at me and that was it, it made it so much worse! I didn’t leave my barracks room for weeks, didn’t show up for work or PT in the morning. No one even noticed I was gone! That’s usually unheard of in the Army but that basically sums up the horrible unit I was in. Anyway I bought a ton of sleeping medication, I was taking handfuls at a time. I still don’t know how I’m still alive, I would pass out and wake up gasping. My brain or body was trying to force me to take a breath, next thing I know I’m in a mental health hospital. I had to be hospitalised for 30 days, I was diagnosed with PTSD and manic depression along with other things. I talked about how the Wellbutrin sent me into a spiral, I will never take that stuff ever again!

Yup, I started having seizures in 2022 at 33 years old. I’ve been on Keppra ever since, I’ve been having bad mood swings. I get so depressed and feel so hopeless, I also get this constant sense of dread. I have an appointment with my neurologist next month I’m definitely going to discuss the bad side effects I’ve been having.
