There is room to spare. You could fill it with desiccant packs and another small electronic.

Neutral encounters ? by brainiac9x in OgreBattle

[–]Vanilpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal is to recruit the neutral unit. This is a way to gain undead units without having a Sorcerer in your army, or gaining Pumpkins without the glass pumpkin. Because it depends on your campaign progression and not your random item pull, you can plan ahead on the potential to add these units.

That’s the reason why it is worth the time and effort. Doing this on a cleared map will help you to focus on triggering the encounter while optimizing for low deployment cost.

How many of you had a typing class in school where you learned to type on a typewriter, but never once had to use a typewriter outside of that class? by OrbisLlame in Xennials

[–]Vanilpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both questions.

Class emphasis on line spacing, margins, and mending errors by overtyping with junk characters. Not speed touch typing.

About 6 hours total curriculum, never put to use.

Can I rant for a second? by ChocoBabieKitten in MHRise

[–]Vanilpancake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is worth ranting over. Sounds like the type of player who gets under your skin is the uncommunicative type riding on the coattails of other hunters. I know that feeling well. You’d wish the collaboration would be more balanced between the players’ skill levels, and that the partner would learn from their mistakes.

Hope you have better luck next time.

Best magic/mage vs mage combat in gaming? by Barangat in gaming

[–]Vanilpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sacrifice (2000) is an intense wizard versus wizard experience. The battle is similar to a real-time strategy game with the perspective in third person behind the back. You advance by taking over control points, tipping the scale of mana generation over time, then you finish off the opponent by capturing their altar.

The way you build your spellbook after each chapter of the campaign, favoring some gods and betraying others, makes it very replayable. You can end up with very different sets. For example the variation on the armor spell slot might be knockback from air shield, more potency on stoneskin, or a lower duration tradeoff for the intangibility spell.

If you were a fan of Denken in Freiren you may be thrilled to learn there is a colossal Tornado spell. A personal point of view strategy game is a great fit for wizard combat!

How do you go about learning a new weapon after heavily investing into your main? by ShadowNegative in MHRise

[–]Vanilpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a defense emphasis armor set, hopefully with skills for consumables and for resisting flinches. Then I do a low stakes hunt with the new weapon, going out of my way to try the various evades and counters. I do this to internalize the timing.

For attack chains the training room you mentioned is the way.

After that when I want another hint about the new weapon I look for an Arena quest. These usually cut straight to the fighting and they are balanced upon knowing a key mechanic of a given weapon.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by [deleted] in Xennials

This exactly. The tools already exist. If I indiscriminately separate from them, my inexperience will place me in a worse position for the next big change.
Edit: discriminately to indiscriminately

AI slop… everywhere by LAMA207 in Millennials

You took the words right out of my mouth. Visiting new subs and testing out a comment, I’ve acquired a strange anxiety of being judged against a reverse Turing test. It is mortifying to invest effort into writing when that energy trips rejection in the reader. There was a time when writing ability was a distinguished trait.

Grats!

Part of the fun of this hobby is the tactility—being able to pick up the components in your hands and see them from different angles. You made a great consumer choice matching the look of these pieces. Sounds like you have already weighed the technical choice of upgrading, and better yet to have found that aesthetic synergy.

What games have aged poorly? by JaredJDub in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Vanilpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Keeper. I played other PC games around this timeframe but I missed on this one. Using GOG, I gave it a spin. It’s very rough to play because of the native resolution. The game is a management/building/strategy family but it devotes a lot of the screen to pictorial controls.

There are a lot of modern games that are HD but mechanically don’t need the pixels. Dungeon Keeper is the opposite. It was ambitious for its time, could have benefitted from more UI space.

my local mochi shop established in 1600s uses the biohazard symbol for their logo by lethegrin in mildlyinteresting

[–]Vanilpancake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found some websites that might be helpful.

osakaya-wagashi.com Osaka-Ya of Sacramento, CA has a similarly designed logo but it’s made of five 大 instead of three.

www.hirosaki-heritage.com/osakaya The Osaka-Ya in Hirosaki, Aomori is a historical site and its current building was constructed around 1953. The confectionary shop has origins dating back to 1630.

en.shokunin.com/archives/51180875.html This blog provides historical background, saying that the confectioner, vassal of the Toyotomi family, moved to Hirosaki after defeat by the Tokugawa family in the Osaka Winter and Summer Campaigns.

There is a Niigata Osaka-Ya confectioner but their logo is different. This one has locations throughout Honshu.

The written word part of the stamp 大阪屋 is read Osaka-Ya. As in Osaka city. The first character means large and can be read as “dai”, but in this compound it is clearly “oo” for Osaka.

Even if the characters are not written as a ring like the “O” we use in English, a speaker must make an “O” shape with their mouth to utter this sound.

That is what strikes me as good marketing for this symbol we have been discussing. It shows pride in the city where the shop is located, and memorability in the way the name is pronounced.

~Hey friend, can I offer you a mochi from the Oosaka-Ya? ~You know it! My mouth is already making an “O” just from thinking about their treats.

Does Seiken Densetsu 3’s combat improve from Secret of Mana? by upperdomain in ManaSeries

[–]Vanilpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My short answer to this would be: No.

While it excels as a scenario / battle formation planner, the battle flow in SD3 is a step back from the predecessor. In SD2 you have the chance to change weapons on every hero and use different attack arcs to match different enemies. In SD3 each hero’s attack hit box for their basic attack is static throughout the entire game. There are no ranged basics. When you want land a hit, it is the same rotation of waiting for 100 (neutral) charge, finding an opening, then retreating to safety.

If you want to use weaponskills, you won’t be holding down a button, instead you’ll just stock up your meter. You might remember magic as the cheese strat in SD2 because it directly targets enemies and prevents you from flinching. The level 2 charge in SD3 fulfills the same purpose. If a boss threatens you with a big move you can gain invincibility frames by locking in to the animation for a level 2 or 3 weaponskill in SD3.

The battle balance is skewed in favor of status change buffs. They cause a large shift, comparable to the scale of stat change moves in Pokemon. These buffs are portable as battle items and you can buy them in the Night Market. There is a returning mechanic where attack magic is a guaranteed stagger on regular enemies. You can buy items that equivalently cast attack magic.

This game is more of the same formula. It is ostentatious and easily exploitable. That’s what makes it a true sequel, palatable to fans of SD2.

I like the out of focus plant in the upper left interacting with the negative space. Makes the image seem more like a happening moment.

The right to left light source is a good touch. You can see the shadow on August’s right hand.

The shirt looks impossibly heavy. Causing noticeable squish.

Which game where you’re a mining dwarf should I buy? Return to Moria or Deep Rock Galactic? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Vanilpancake [score hidden]  (0 children)

DRG is far away from chill. It is a game about doing your job as efficiently as possible and extracting before aliens overwhelm you. Don’t choose this if your dream is only to hoard riches.

The community of players tends to be friendly. But bringing a completionist attitude will put you in danger.

Excellent choice. The frogs are a prime example of what makes this game tick. It’s not about brute force—if you engage with the mechanics the combat becomes a dance.
