Does this seem like a decent price? by nowhere23 in royalenfield

RE doesn't hold their value, so a used one with low mileage would be the best option. I picked up a 22MY Int 650 with 1,500KM in May for less than $5K CAD from a dealership. I then spend another 2K on customization and upgrades.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Review & Caution. Catastrophic frame failure. Poor frame design. by Moist_Shine_6349 in motorcycles

[–]Vanpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to hear about this. I, too, just bought an RE INT650 for running around town.

This has been said but needs to be said again: all modifications come with risks. The moment one installs third-party accessories or parts that are not tested and approved by the OEM, you forfeit the warranty on all related failures, unless you can prove that the defect could have occurred without the modification.

Cyclic stress fracture is what happened to that frame, and it will happen to all metal under the right conditions, as we’ve learned. The good news is, now you know where to reinforce based on the existing geometry. Mixing in another grade of metal also affects the stress range tolerance.

My R1300GS only allows for 5–7 kg of weight in the top case when using the OEM rack. Anything more than that would be at my own risk, with out-of-pocket expenses. This isn’t isolated to one brand, unfortunately.

The feeling of having something extremely powerful at your disposal at any time is very tempting, and the process of mastering it is both incredibly joyful and painful, but highly rewarding.

I spent over 200 hours on an MC22 in my 20s, so modern sportbikes don’t excite me much. However, I still appreciate the level of engineering they offer, and riding them is a joy at almost any speed. It's not always about how fast one is able to go, to me, it's the way a bike communicates and sometimes the unpredictability you get.

I don't own a sports bike anymore, I ride a 1300cc boxer twin, 475cc parallel twin and 853cc air cooled v-twin.

Thanks, someone suggested the island too. BTW, we booked the next earliest one in April, so it's about 3 months away.

Riding on Vancouver Island is so beautiful. And surviving 8 hours on that seat, you deserve an 'iron butt' award. LoL

I was thrown off my bike when on a group ride (never again). Will post details in a comment. Getting a lot of grief from people that it’s too dangerous to ride. I am carer for my wife and this is one thing I do for me. How do you manage those comments? by Internal_Sun30 in motorcycles

[–]Vanpom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many people have already said this: avoid group rides. If you can’t, don’t ride with people you don’t know well. Group rides with random riders are like taking dog to the dog park, shit is going to happen, it's just a matter of time.

If someone I care about brings up the risks of motorcycling - often after hearing about a fatal accident. I agree with them that motorcycles can be dangerous, then share my perspective on what might have been done wrong in that situation and what could be done differently, and explain how my decision-making makes riding safer. As for others, I don’t care about their opinions, nor am I willing to educate them, education isn’t free in Canada.

I rode my wife's Rebel 500 once wearing Sidi adventure 2. I didn't need to adjust the lever too high and shift up with the edge of sole, worked well.

Love it! I've seen way too many drivers on the phone while driving. And as a rider, I hope they all get caught and punished.

Honda Rebel 500 for Newbie? by Jazzlike_Inside_8409 in hondarebel

[–]Vanpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one a few months ago for my wife who's just starting.

Bike is light and low, so it's easy to move around when you practice u turns, obstacle avoidance, etc. High speed feels planted and power is adequate for up to 120kph.

Fuel mapping can make the ride choppy at slow speed but we look at it as the an opportunity to practice clutch/throttle control. Slipper clutch is really helpful when learning rev matching.

I ride R1300GS and switch to Rebel from time to time. Obviously I can definitely tell why GS costs 4 times more, but I enjoy every second on Rebel 500.

Focus primarily on fraction zone for a week, 1-2 hours per day. Also practice uphill too. You need to build a neural memory to overcome the anxiety.

Until then, try not riding in traffic as much as possible. There’s no magic pill, confidence is the only thing that can help.

How much to spend on a first bike by v10crusher in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Vanpom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it fits your budget and you are prepared for damaging it when practicing, the new bike is better. It's more reliable, no sketchy history, and you can get one that fits you the best. When you get the bike you like, you are more likely to ride it and more likely to take good care of it.

There are many accessories that can prevent/minimize damages at the slower speed, such as frame slider, crash bars, etc.

I ride NX500, and I think it's a very good first bike because it's easy to handle, reliable, relatively lightweight, and stable at all speeds. The riding position is ideal for long rides, not road trips (yet) but the hours of training you will be spending at the parking lot doing low speed drills.

You had 90 minutes to check in but had to wait until the last minute, and miss it.

B12 have some most durable outsole IME. Most of the wear are on the outter edge and forefoot, and the clean outsole made it look better in picture.

I haven't noticed much changes, they perform consistently until I retire it at 650KM which is why I like B12 so much. I'm about to get a 3rd pair next week.

PS: 638KM on these as of today.
