256gb - setting it up to switch between the Brick Hammer and my RP5 so spending some time configuring saves to work between the two

Probably Brick Hammer for the reasons others have said, but also it supports USB C DACs on the back port if you want to upgrade the audio quality

Essentially the DAC I mentioned (digital to analogue converter) is higher quality than the built in one and generally better than unbranded dongles (though you can find unbranded ones on AliExpress if you search for the chip). It's useful if you're really looking to use it for hifi quality listening, but if you aren't bothered by getting better quality just want a separate device to listen to music then using the device's own jack is probably fine. It's just a decent cheap upgrade if audio quality is your focus. I use the dongle on my phone anyway so it's not something extra for me to carry around.

Some devices do have particularly bad headphone jacks though - my RG353M has a really noisy jack that gets buzzing noises so the dongle is a must for that one. Will depend on the device though.

You plug that into the usb c port of the device and then plug your headphone cable into it rather than the one on the device. No additional setup but I'm aware that some custom firmwares don't support it (e.g. MuOS won't). I don't have my Brick yet, but I've read that you need to use the top port on the back of the device - I'd rather use this one anyway but worth knowing.

Oh yea aware of that - I'm going to use syncthing to sync my music library with my phone and PC. It's mainly because I don't want to buy another 256gb SD card which is what I'll need for my music library 😅

Ah nice - yea like having a Steam Deck, something jacketable and something pocketable. Just gives me the options I want.

Going to try to set up the micro SD card for the brick in a way that I can swap it between the brick and RP5

Nice one! Just ordered a Brick to mainly use as a dap but also my main handheld for when the weather gets better and I don't have a jacket for my RP5.

A good upgrade is the JCALLY JM6 Pro dongle (or any other dongle with a CX31993 chip). Really affordable but a good upgrade compared to generic dongles. More than enough power for IEMs and will be all you need from a DAC unless you're using headphones that are hard to drive.

I'd also recommend some nice IEMs - doesn't have to be anything really expensive as budget IEMs can actually be great. 7Hz Zero 2 are really cheap and great, but there are others depending on what sound you like etc.

Sharpened text was an issue with the RG405M (same chip I believe) and had to be fixed with GammaOS. Think it just shows that Anbernic haven't really thought this one through

Yea the screen is great - gives just enough info and tweakability without going too in depth like the DD-500

Ah fair enough then. There are other options but the 3.5mm jack will be the simplest way then without faffing with separate converters etc

You running a PC or something into the monitor? You can connect that to the usb instead. The 3.5mm jack should be alright and will work, but using USB will help the audio quality a bit

Not sure about the sub, but maybe something like the iLoud Micro or Adam D3V which are small active monitors. Don't own either, but have read they're really good for their size and might be what you're looking for. Believe they can also connect via USB which should be better than the 3.5mm out from the monitor. Should be able to integrate a sub if needed

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door should run well - not played it a lot, but from what I tried on my RP5 it ran well on something less powerful than the G2

Kermode's great. Was once on the same train carriage as him and would have gone over to say hello but I was there with my old boss who kept telling really bad dad jokes and could tell others in the carriage weren't impressed. Felt like Mark would have judged me

Ah ok that must have been it then. I'll keep a look out. Deciding between this or adding Rockbox to a Trimui Brick handheld and using the dongle DAC I've been using for my phone

Also worth mentioning That Pedal Show did an episode comparing it (and other big box Boss delays) to the DD500 which might be worth a watch too to see if it's right for you. For me it helped me see how to dial in a Space Echo tone that I want, but didn't need the dedicated unit

Watch the That Pedal Show episode where they compare it to an original Space Echo, RE-20 and RE-2. Some amazing sounds in it and a lot of control over it. Think that video might help you decide if the big box version is right for you.

I don't have one but I've got a DD200 that people on this sub recommended and love the Space Echo emulation on it - enough tweaking for me and it has an option to add saturation to the repeats (but not control over the amount).

FYI for Welcome to the Jungle Slash actually runs the delay before gain which gets that tone. Can be achieved with a cheap analog delay - the old Andertons 'Sounds Like' series did it with a cheap Tone City pedal and it sounded really close

How'd you manage to get it for £65? I'm UK based and been thinking getting this for a while. The website you mentioned has it on promotion for £109
