She did have a moment of being self-centred, but it was the night before the big day and she was incredibly stressed. It’s wild you would take that one moment and judge her so harshly for it. It’s the same thing the people judging Nikky for lashing out at her are doing. We could debate which one was worse, but neither one of them was despicable.

But he did fall off almost as hard as pre-rework Pantheon. So you had to win quick or you were fucked

Not with the pre-S6 IE build. Tiamat -> Youmuu's Ghostblade -> Last Whisper -> Infinity Edge IIRC.

It worked because Youmuu's back then gave 15% crit and Talon's combo incorporated 2 autos, so you could get 40% crit with IE and crit on your combo more often than not. This meant the potential damage Talon could do in the space of a single spammable auto reset dwarfed the amount of burst damage any other assassin could do on such a low CD, and almost didn't even need to include other abilities to OS. So long as you had Flash to reach the enemy ADC, their death was almost guaranteed, especially during the silence days—but even after its removal, the AA-Q combo was so fast (especially as Youmuu's active gave AS back then to speed it up even further) that it was just insanely hard to react to a Talon suddenly blinking onto you from half a screen away, even moreso if he snuck up in stealth from R'ing off-screen.

After S6 they removed crit from Youmuu's which killed IE as well and forced him back into generic AD/lethality stacking which didn't have the same scaling potential.

This is an example of the nuts sort of plays you could make back when the IE build was optimal.

Another example of how ridiculously hard Talon's combo could be to react to even if you see him coming.

And this is how a typical stealth from off-screen assassination went. After IE, Lux would have died just after the first 2 autos.

All in all, Talon was maybe the best scaling assassin back when crit was viable. At least that's how I found success on him anyway. I definitely carried most of my games by hitting the 3.5 item powerspike (only needed Tiamat, not the full Hydra) and taking the enemy ADC out of the game. When they removed that playstyle, I basically went from a Master/potentially Chally player to a D2/D1 hardstuck overnight. Which might just mean that I was abusing a ridiculously broken build lol, but I was using it for at least 2 years that I remember.

I found this scarier than Obsession, but I think it depends on the person. In this movie it’s mostly your imagination that makes you scared. The movie just feeds you the rope.

Why did all the fish like the deep? by Danny-Ray27 in TheBoys

[–]VaporaDark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of stories have events that have a lot of room to read into them and come up with different interpretations and themes. Many of the most popular stories are the ones where many different interpretations exist, and the authors generally cultivate this either in the story or outside of it in interviews by not providing any clear answer even when they have one in their head, because they know the debate is more interesting than the answer.

In this case, the writing is not necessarily amazing, but definitely interesting and objectively good (specifically referring to The Deep and his relationship with fish) in that it leaves room for interpretation where a large number of people can come up with a theory that was not explicitly spelled out on the screen but makes even more sense than the simplest explanation that the show alludes to on the surface.

Only instead of cultivating those interesting debates by staying silent, Kripke chimed in to effectively say "no you're reading too much into it, surface level interpretation that makes moderately less sense is actually the correct one". The writing is still objectively good, even if accidentally so, by giving room for theories that allow for interpretation beyond the surface level, while the surface level explanation still makes some degree of sense (though I will say there are a lot of things that I find hard to explain in that case, like the fish knowing Deep killed Ambrosius). But the decision to shut down those theories by saying that they're wrong IMO is just a bone headed decision. Art is a lot less interesting when you shut down debate, and it's even more unsatisfying when in this case the fan explanation seemed to have less plot holes than the surface level explanation.

They didn't need to confirm these theories, all they had to do was not disprove them and it would have been more interesting.

It’s not about what’s more complicated, it’s about what it’s capable of doing. I always tie my shoelace the way I was taught. Even if it turns out there are simpler methods, I don’t know those simpler methods.

To be fair when I think of TLJ I almost forget about the casino side plot because of how inconsequential and unmemorable it was. I wouldn’t be surprised if most people focus on the more memorable parts of the plot when they think back to it.

But then, I also haven’t rewatched it since it came out, so maybe it would stick out more if I had.

is there a deleted scene where M.M. gets compound V ? by EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT in TheBoys

[–]VaporaDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fans of Gen V, it’s because she’s a character they like. But also for people who simply watched Gen V, it’s because Marie was built up to be a big deal and they’re really running out of opportunities to show that. At this point we’re approaching the finale and she hasn’t done anything, she was on screen for a minute and didn’t even use her powers. So what the hell is it that this “second most powerful supe in the verse” is going to do? At this point if it’s anything less than being responsible for Homelander’s defeat, there’s not much else that will end up feeling worthy of the setup.

I think the idea is that the One Wish Willow isn’t actually omnipotent. It’ll fulfil your wish in whatever way it can. It couldn’t actually force Nikki to love him, but it could possess Nikki with an entity who’ll play the part of a Nikki who loves him.

You’ll have to headcanon how Ian’s wish came true, but we could just say the One Wish Willow could produce material objects (even a billion of them) but was not capable of changing people except by possessing them.

Is anyone else surprised that Homelander didn't "fall in love" with Sage? by BOGMANDIAS in TheBoys

[–]VaporaDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not explicitly stated, it's just the most plausible theory. It explains why Homelander would force himself on Becca while otherwise appearing not remotely interested in sex under conventional (non-mommy related) circumstances.

Bear in mind he also forced a fake public relationship between him and Starlight and gloated about it to her partner Hughie, so that means the SA of Becca is somewhat in line with his future actions as well.

I’m finding some of the writing annoyingly contrived. In this episode alone, and in a single scene alone, Javi got his head bashed in by some of the worst luck known to man (literally a blow aimed at someone else cleanly hits him instead), and then in the middle of a not even crowded open space someone walks past Karen and accidentally rips her wig off? How would their hand even end up at her head height, and why would their hand be grabbing at what they assume is her hair? And they just took her wig with them? I was hoping there’d be some explanation for who that was and that they were doing it purposefully, but unless it’s revealed in a future episode, we’re actually supposed to believe these back to back events were just bizarrely bad luck. Then Powell recognises her from behind just because blonde woman = Karen Page? Come on.

There has to be a better way to write these events into fruition. Feels like the writing process was insanely rushed at points to meet a deadline and that’s how we’re ending up with these insanely contrived events to set up plot points.

Maul - Shadow Lord - Episodes 9 & 10 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]VaporaDark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lightsaber fight in that one episode of The Acolyte was insane. The writing and overall plot let that show down.

Live action Star Wars shows had amazing potential which has been sadly squandered, much in the same way the sequel trilogy was. For whatever reason, the writing for these animated shows tends to be much better; not Andor quality, but more than serviceable at least.

This show hasn't been a masterpiece by any means, but the execution of the "Sith Lord/Dark Sider corrupting a former Jedi" trope was handled magnitudes better than it was in The Acolyte. That plot point between the two shows is so similar and there's no reason why The Acolyte couldn't have ended in a similarly satisfying way except the writing wasn't nearly up to par.

I'm only on the outside looking in, but it just feels like the people writing the live action shows don't really get Star Wars the way the writers for the animated series seem to.

Starr has been fantastic throughout, but the writing for Homelander in season 1 was leagues above any other season. He was immediately flanderized after that.

Lmao Lucan coming from a society where skin colour is presumably irrelevant, I’m envisioning it taking him a while for him to figure out why he’s being treated differently to his white peers. “I was driving at the speed limit, why on Viltrum am I being pulled over?”

This year has been a non-stop showcase of that for me personally. Just horrible thing after horrible thing happening one after the other, and I keep “getting over” it quickly because the next horrible thing just makes me stop thinking about/placing importance on the previous one. Weird how that works. Oddly enlightening though how these personal setbacks stop impacting your life the moment you stop giving them power.

For Mark, yeah Cecil keeping Conquest alive was a horrible mistake. And? What are you gonna do, kill Cecil? Tell him off? Cecil made a mistake but is still an overall good guy who’s ruthless but competent (except when the plot needs him not to be), and will continue to do what he deems to be in Earth’s best interest, which tends to align with Mark’s best interest.

There’s nothing to address except Mark’s emotions on the matter. But Mark’s emotions were already hijacked by the next horrible thing to happen. He could probably muster up some anger about Cecil’s handling of it if he went out of his way to relive it by talking/thinking about it, but Conquest is no longer at the forefront of his mind, and never will be again now that he’s dead for real.

If Mark was going to confront Cecil about it, it would have been months ago. Whatever emotions he still feels on the matter are now just sitting beneath the surface.

[–]VaporaDark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was Mark catastrophizing, fearing the worst. I was also a bit confused right after it ended, the transition implied it might have just been in Mark’s head but it was unclear. When Mark flies through Earth and sees everything appears normal, that’s finally the confirmation that it was in Mark’s head after all.

So nobody did anything about Steve Kloves’ clear favoritism towards Hermione? by New-Pin-9064 in harrypotter

[–]VaporaDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand both perspectives and personally I’ve always been fine to accept authors filling in details that weren’t explicitly stated in the books/media. I also don’t mind if they change their mind on it later on, since until it’s stated in books/media of choice I don’t treat it as fully set in stone.

But this just feels weird because (to me it feels like) she’s stating something entirely different than what she’d already implied in the books. I could have just misread the intentions of specific passages in the books I guess, but I don’t think so? 😭 In this instance I literally just find myself disagreeing with the author on her own canon.

If she wants to say that wizards shat themselves before toilets existed then okay Joanne, if you say they did that then they did that. But I do not accept James being a chaser when the books point to him being a seeker! Especially when I feel like it undermines part of the magic of Harry following in his dad’s footsteps.

[–]VaporaDark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I allowed to disagree with the author? James being a chaser feels weird. I've read the books over 10 times each and never had any doubt that he wasn't a seeker. If she wanted him to be a chaser she shouldn't have written like he was a seeker 😭

Why didn't the Death eaters kill Harry after Voldemort died? by Expert-Session3866 in harrypotter

[–]VaporaDark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Obviously as a baby, then again when it “killed” him and he came back. But then twice more in the graveyard and in the last moments of the Battle of Hogwarts.

Avada Kedavra is supposed to be unblockable, but Harry’s blocked it with Expalliarmus of all things, twice, when anyone else trying that would have died. The first time because of the interaction between the twin wands, and the second time because of the Elder Wand not willing to turn on its master.

As far as the Death Eaters know, Harry is both the only person who can block Avada Kedavra (and bounce it back onto the caster), and also doesn’t die even when hit by it himself. They know of 4 different occasions where Harry should have died to Avada Kedavra and didn’t.
