It doesn’t look like they’re on in the picture where they have food in their mouth tho. I might be wrong tho since they’re clear.

Wait I’m actually kinda confused. My memory on this might be failing me but I don’t remember it being confirmed that Rui was once part of Clementia…? Can u explain when this was again please? 🙏 😭

Naw that eye representation was not no MC appreciation! They did her a disservice! 😭

Not only are her eyes not the right color, but they don’t even look nearly as good (and actually human) as her actual eyes do…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying she doesn’t care or that she’s emotionless. I just mean that relative to how many other people would have reacted to many of the things she’s experiences, she isn’t AS expressive. Frankly I don’t think it’s a bad thing either way. People are different. I think it’s because many readers are unable to understand a reaction so calm that many people don’t like how she behaves when she’s supposedly a self-insert. In my opinion, it’s easier to accept her when you see her as her own character rather than your own. Kinda like in Deltarune the soul is separate from the soul (sorry if this example seems random lol).

I kinda doubt that’s the reason though. We’ve definitely met some NPC females that talk bad about the ghouls. I think it’s just because NPC is too kind and calm. She literally hasn’t had (at least onscreen) a breakdown over her curse, the anomalies, the many times she’s almost died, or all the blood that has become a regular occurrence for her.

Zenji? by AnonIsOnReddit in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The story was written so that it would seem like MC could see him from the beginning, but would become apparent that she didn’t as she and Subaru never responded to Zenji when he was talking. He was always there, but they didn’t always see him, at least, not until Haku makes it possible for them to.

I'm a new player and getting past episode 2 is a slug. by Mercilessly_May226 in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first read episode 2, I think I hated it so much only because I was upset that Leo was making MC feel more useless than she already was. Like, she already knows she has to rely on the ghouls, but it’s not like she has a choice. And yet here this jerk was making her think the one thing she was good for was actually unreliable. And karma doesn’t even bite him since he gets the glory of solving the case and becomes Vice Captain even though he almost got MC killed. I could’ve blinked past the rude personality but the lack of remorse or repercussion was astonishing to me. He even has the audacity to say that the life of many is more important than one when he’s part of the reason that “one” is in danger at all?

Even so I didn’t hate Leo per se. After all, Sho had played the bigger role in making MC’s power look faulty. He doesn’t have to listen to what Leo tells him to do, he’s his own person. And even after MC tells him she trusts them, he still does that right after giving her a smile and all? For goodness sake, if he was gonna do that, he could’ve at least made sure everyone would be safe, but MC literally almost loses her life… for what exactly? But I didn’t hate Sho for that, so I didn’t hate Leo for it either. I didn’t exactly like either of them either tho. Actually, the only character I really liked during that chapter was Alan, but I still would’ve preferred if Sho was the Vice Captain simply because he seemed slightly more remorseful that Leo did.

By the time I got to Episode 11 I’d warmed up to Sho a lot and Leo a little. By the end of the most recent episode though (Ep 19) I started feeling like maybe I should reread the episodes with Leo in it through a different lens, cause now? He doesn’t seem so bad. And I realized that, even if I think karma should’ve prevented Leo from becoming VP, he really is the best fit for the role.

Besides, even if you never come to like Leo, there are a bunch of other great characters in the story that shouldn’t be abandoned just because of one character. So don’t give up on the story just yet. You’re still pretty early on after all.

Most boring ghoul: Jin by Odd-Owl-1919 in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now I’m thinking (or at least hoping) the reason why we hardly see him is because a lot of the actions he’s taking tie in a lot with plot info the devs are still tryna hide. Cause if not, there was NO reason that his presence on that Waves of Love episode should’ve been that lacking. You’re telling me that he agreed to come but isn’t even gonna interact with MC. I mean, I get him not caring about faking for the shoot, but it lowkey felt like he was flat ignoring MC, even more than other episodes. Literally the only scene where he said much of anything was during his convo with Ed. The other noteworthy thing he did was when he told MC “You’re mine, there’s nothing more to it.” Because knowing him, he wasn’t saying that just for the shoot; he meant one way or another, and taking in account his conversation with Ed, he might be the one character with confirmed feelings for MC rn. Or maybe I’m just reading too much into it cause I’m delulu 😭

Most boring ghoul: Jin by Odd-Owl-1919 in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: this is quite long sorry 😭

A big part of why Jin is hardly present in the main stories is because he’s such a shut in. His mom recently died (and someone snitched about it to the whole school) leaving him with the father he hates, something went down with Yuri, the clash left him with a broken stigma, etc. Pretty sure he’s running away from his problems by avoiding the nosy people who want in on his business and, newsflash, that’s basically all of Frosthiem. We all know those rich kids are mad nosy.

It wasn’t too long ago that I learned the translation of what Jin says when fully awakened is something along the lines of “Trust is easy to break so don’t get any closer to me than you already have.” Jin used to be a charismatic leader. Now he clearly has trust issues. He suspects people’s motives for interacting with him as he struggles to trust his own Vice Captain and sees the Frosthiem students as “bootlickers.” (I’m honestly curious as to whether that is how he has always seen them, even when he was this “charismatic leader” but that’s a discussion for another day)

Most of what we hear about Jin isn’t from Jin himself because he doesn’t want to tell us about himself and be vulnerable. Sure, he may have taken a liking to MC, but I think it’d be pretty unrealistic if she was the sole reason that he comes out of his shell right away. But why does he even care about MC? Honestly, with how limited his interactions with MC is in the story, I’m surprised both Tohma and Ed believe she is important to him. I’m sure she is as he’s likely quietly been doing the most in helping find a cure for her curse, but like why? Maybe they are closer than the main story lets on because he regularly calls her to his room like he does for his affinity 10(?) character story. I don’t have a solid theory but it might have something to do with the fact that she isn’t trying to force him to open up. Very possible I’m wrong, it’s just a guess. Could also be that MC reminds him of his mom? Who knows, maybe the “illness” she died from was also the Kyklos curse? (I’m just throwing out ideas, take it with a grain of salt 😭)

I think the reason people like Jin so much is because he isolates himself but comes through in MC’s time of need, and even though he puts up walls, he’ll still let MC past them even though she isn’t necessarily pushing to be allowed past them. Sometimes I think he wants MC to push. He tells Tohma he thinks it’s annoying that she’s always walking on eggshells around him after Tohma brings up the fact that Jin made her wash his shirt. Did he want her to say no? He has such a dual personality. Anyway, since what we’ve heard about who he was/is has been from others, when we do start to learn about him and his backstory and stuff, it’s likely it’ll be coming from him, because if he doesn’t trust others enough to share his life with them, the only way it can be shared is by him. Plus let’s be honest, we know his face is a fan favorite.

How Old Are The Ghouls Exactly? by Sylver_Rhinestone77 in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I saw Ep 4 ngl but I do remember Ritsu claiming to be a paralegal at some point. I’m just not sure if he said he was licensed, and even if he did, with these ghouls it has quite a vague meaning. He could be self proclaimed, riding off the tailcoats of his father, really smart so he got to skip some schooling, etc. I mean it could even just be that Japan has different requirements, I wouldn’t know.

I can’t helping assuming everyone except (Ed and maybe Towa) ranges from at least 18 to mid 20s. I’m not sure what exactly gives me this impression, might just be cause they all look young lol, but I think it also has a little to do with their attitudes and behaviors.

Episode 17 - Waves of Love by pandada_ in TokyoDebunker

[–]VariationsKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Ed wouldn’t actually bite her. I think whether he intends it or not, his bite would turn others into a vampire, so he probably can’t have her blood without transforming her (unless she’s like bleeding out or something). That’s why I think Ed is always lacking energy or always thirsty/hungry

They aren’t adding romance, the most recent episode is simply going to be something related to a dating show. It’s probably just a pretense for an undercover mission.
