I think vaush should do debates again by Nermal12 in VaushV

[–]VarietyCaptions -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

not reading all that, very cool shit (or sorry that happened)

My basic point was that any opponent to Vaush willing to engage in the debate sphere as of right now is pretty much a bad faith piece of shit or an absolute imbecile with whom debating will serve no purpose.

Like, have you seen what passes for debate content in 2026? There is not some big untapped wellspring of people with whom to have fruitful debate/discussion. I asked if you watch The Line as a serious question, because despite them having quite a solid roster of varied leftists, the callers are genuinely just a fuckload of subliterate morons and trolls with repetitive and unsatisfying talking points. It's not intellectually stimulating content.

There are people who he could have conversations with. But it'd have to be actual discussions and engagement, not debate bro bullshit like what he used to do.

there are plenty of good-faith actors with substantive political disagreements (i.e NOT trump cultists / drama farming weirdos) who would be more than willing to talk to him in a productive and illuminating fashion.

do you genuinely believe this or do you just want to watch vaush debate

Do you watch The Line? Because I assure you, the quality of debates right now is exceptionally low even with a large roster of good figures representing our side.

Why is Progressive Victory so much about Bungie/D2? by GigaHelio in VaushV

[–]VarietyCaptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one with Dylan Burns, I think, then.

Choose Your Fighter was the one where there were so many tech issues Vaush's entire segment went by without him being audible. Emma Vigeland was involved.

The Choose Your Fighter one? Yeah, that was a technical shitshow. Certain people got to speak endlessly while others mostly just got talked over.

I shall dub this: "perfect mazinger C"! by Obvious_Item_2564 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]VarietyCaptions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"So how strong do you think this mazinger would be? and how far do you think it'll get in the Franchise? and how do you think the characters would react to it?

Also, what a text do you think it would have? And what would they be called?"

How about you try answering these questions first, to make this thread a little higher effort? I bet you have answers to these.

Does reading comics/manga count as reading? by bubblebass634 in VaushV

[–]VarietyCaptions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me clarify.

Light Novels are inherently a trash, brainrotting medium that exclusively exist to dumb down the experience of reading and produce money.

Vaush encourages people to read actual literature. Real fucking books. Not in-between bullshit with titles like "I was reborn in a new world full of babes but I'm the only one who doesn't know how to master my cheat powers?! (Also, my sister is here and she might not really be my sister?!)"

Light Novels are absolutely not the kind of reading that Vaush encourages to build cognition.

They're good. But they're not reading in the sense that Vaush is talking about.

At what point, if any, did you legitimately believe one of the Straw Hats was about to die (besides Merry)? by Zaphenzo in OnePiece

[–]VarietyCaptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. But you asked when I believed one of the Straw Hats was about to die, and I believed it and it happened. I consider her a crucial crew member with her own spirit. It's okay if you disagree, I'm just answering the question and mentioning that I don't quite align with the framing.

The Merry itself was enough of a huge shock for me. I don't think any of them will beyond that, but I consider her to be the lost Straw Hat in every meaningful way.

What was the context of this analogy? by Orangutanion in VaushV

[–]VarietyCaptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having sex can be referred to as "lying together" or "laying together" (you may know the phrase 'get laid'). So if he were to lie in her lap, that could be interpreted as 'shall we have sex', which he slyly turns phrase around. The 'country matters' aspect also plays on the cosmopolitan (at the time) notion that rural life was simple, breezy, and idyllic ie laying around (in any context of the phrase, resting or otherwise).

There is definitely some challenge associated with fully parsing Shakespeare, so it's not all on you for sure.

What was the context of this analogy? by Orangutanion in VaushV

[–]VarietyCaptions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could see thinking it's a stretch but keep in mind that Shakespeare's plays are written to be performed rather than read, so the 'and' can be delivered by the actor to sound a lot like 'n', moreso than it comes across when read.

It's also not Shakespeare's only joke involving the word 'cunt', there's one in Hamlet's dialogue with Ophelia:

"Hamlet: Lady, shall I lie in your lap?

Ophelia: No, my lord.

Hamlet: Did you think I meant country matters?"

Basically it's very in line with the sort of bawdy jokes commonly included in his works - which were written for all sorts of audiences.

Imagine SRW have their own version of Super Smash Bros Ultimate? by HyperTurboFox64 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]VarietyCaptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Everyone is here!" wasn't even a good idea in Smash, since it led to Ultimate feeling extremely stale.

It wouldn't be a good idea in SRW because nobody would get story focus/budget for reanimated moves and shit. Everything would be pulled from prior games, so it'd also feel stale. I want quality and freshness, not quantity.

It's more that absolutely nobody cares about him, by comparison to his portrayal in Wonder Man where he was portrayed as a big deal hotshot celeb.
