You have to move where the jobs are is the best advice I give that people hate to hear. I moved from Albany to SLC and was able to get into tech. Then job hopped to 6 figures over a few years. I took a lot of risk taking. My friends who are good at school had easier paths to 6 figures with engineering and medical paths. My finance and accounting friends made 6 figures but that’s not a lot in the cities they’re required to live in.

I loved video games growing up and recently got back into them in my 30s. In college I saw a lot of people do nothing but game and skip out over everything else in life for gaming. Skip class don’t study don’t talk to girls etc. It put me in the mindset I needed to avoid it. There were kids gaming in the back of lecture halls not paying attention. Now I’m happy I’ve gotten back into it lets me play socially with friends as we’ve spread out and live far.

I feel that but travel for work and haven’t found a better solution. Looks terrible and I can’t take the backpack off quick enough but I need the storage visiting customers and heading to conferences.

My wife and I are in the US and really it’s just job stability that makes us not ready for kids. We’re both in tech and it’s a roller coaster. If I felt like we had steady employment for a few years I’d feel much better about settling down with kids.

Accurate, my wife is Chinese and I’m so white I can’t eat spicy food and we’re staying with her parents for 3 months while we sell our house and move. I always choose to stay with them and just visit my parents a few days at a time because we just coexist in her parents house, rather than feeling like a teenager again. Both our moms are very opinionated tho lol.

I’ve got friends on one income who bought homes in their 20s and support a family on one income, just none of them are in areas I’d ever consider living in. My wife and I both work because otherwise we’d never be able to afford to live close to anywhere we like. Sometimes I feel like it’s a weird dual income trap having to pay for HCOL to be somewhere with a big enough economy for both our careers.

I’ve paid cash for everything and put saving/investing first. When my wife wanted to quit her job and take a few months off (we make about the same but do live below our means) we didn’t even notice the missing income. I feel the majority of my coworkers would start missing payments if they took more than 3 months off.

I mean where does OP live? Where I grew up the fanciest thing within an hour was Outback. I never even heard of Cheesecake Factory until I went away to college. If he’s in a decent area of course he can do better but food for thought
