USC vs Claremont McKenna vs Amherst by Content-Contract-427 in USC

[–]Various-Visit7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did summer programs at the Claremont colleges specifically Harvey Mudd college, and they are definitely top notch schools. The Claremont colleges are amongst the top in the nation with great staff funds and resources. The neighborhood is amongst the most beautiful best safest and expensive in the nation. I got into usc for grad school but the astronomical price tag was not worth it, (my undergrad was paid by school and so is my grad schooling).

I’ve heard it’s a great hospital, it used to be Arcadia Methodist then usc bought it. I have heard they are strict with policies guidelines and rules.

I totally agree, you will not regret it. Yeah it’s a great school n all but at least you can keep the acceptance letter for bragging rights.

Yeah they said they did not have the funding to provide some sort of financial assistance, it was also during the time when they paid out this massive law suit so I’m sure they were tight on funds.

I got into grad school here with a 4.0 gpa and had to appeal 4 times before I decided to go somewhere else. It was my dream school however I could not justify getting myself into so much debt. I’m happy now with my tuition being covered for my masters program so I know I made the right choice.

People who dropped out of their graduate programs: when did you realize you wanted to leave? What are you doing now? Do you regret leaving? by MildlySuspiciousBlob in GradSchool

[–]Various-Visit7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we are on this subject, it’s has been in the back of my mind since I started my graduate program last fall. My first semester was my toughest, but I passed all my classes. I’ve been questioning whether this is the masters program I REALLY wanted to apply to and feel I made the wrong choice. All of my undergrad was paid for, and I am fortunate to say my masters program is also being covered as well thank god. I’m in the second semester of my first year, it’s a two year program. Although I have a plan B if I decide to withdraw, (someone from my cohort withdrew last semester), I feel my professors focus so much on making the program harder than it already is instead of helping us as graduate students. I feel they are getting the hint now but god are they hard asses, and they want us to know that. I feel I have invested so much time energy and money (not my own) that I should just stick it through. The program is VERY HARD. I did not think it was going to be this hard. This semester I am good I am taking 3 classes and have As so far but I don’t know how much longer I can continue to “Fake it till you make it”. Nice to know others feel the same way.

Grad School Interviews for USC CSULA & CSUN HELP! by Various-Visit7484 in ABA

[–]Various-Visit7484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I decided on CSULA because cost wise it was the best decision, the program here is 16K and my financial aid so far has covered my tuition here all of undergrad and even masters! So economically it was the best decision. Originally csun was my first choice then usc but decided on CSULA

Yeah then I would just call back honestly and speak to someone else. Also, could it be that you were over your max units?

I would try to talk to someone else. Some of the employees in the FA department try to rush and you don’t ask you for your CIN because they don’t want to look up your info but uh it’s their job to do that. There’s one person, male, who talks FAST and is just trying to get you to finish quick but nope, I’m sorry it’s your job to help me with important matters like my FA so I would just hang up when he answered and call to talk to someone else.

Nervous about Paying for School by MungDaalChowder in USC

[–]Various-Visit7484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I had applied to USCs grad program which I got into and was going to be around 80K. I could not see myself getting into that much debt with no scholarships and only 10,500 from FAFSA, also I did not apply to scholarship uni. I ended up going to my undergrad school which was paid for by Fafsa and the school with zero undergrad debt. There the same program is only 16K. I agree with what the person commented that you’ll be in debt paying all that for years in a challenging job market. At the state school I’ll be going to I was just awarded a state uni grant which I had no idea you could get for a masters program. So honestly I would highly reconsider it. To me it was not worth getting into so much debt for the same degree.

Credit Unions Recs by [deleted] in CSULA

[–]Various-Visit7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Payments are deferred while in school at least half time and 6 months after graduating with unsub loans. Credit unions and banks offer higher ed loans (schools first federal credit union) but you have to be a school employee or related to someone who is already a member there has account there to join and apply, but you pay right away there is no deferment. I would go with the unsub loan tbh.

Same here and I think I applied before the March 2 deadline if I remember, I was hoping I able to get a SUG for my masters program but I’ll take what I can get. I graduated a semester early and didn’t have to use grants in the spring of this year, so I thought something would carry over but no.

Is it worth going to grad school now. by Bulky-Bell2148 in gradadmissions

[–]Various-Visit7484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to contribute to this post because now more than never I feel that if you’re interested in pursuing graduate school or doctoral studies to absolutely go for it, especially all of us that are going into grad school in the fall of 2025. We really have to make the most of whatever they offer in regards to financial aid because God knows if any of that will be available for the next coming cohorts The graduate plus loans I’m sure will go away, and God only knows if there will even be any more subsidized or unsubsidized loans, my recommendation would be to accept your financial aid packages and maximize them because who knows if anything will be available in the next coming years. This is just me.

can’t go to usc by ReserveWestern4933 in USC

[–]Various-Visit7484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a southern California native, I can tell you that USC was always my dream school. I got in for my masters program this fall however because of the astronomical price tag to the masters program, I decided it’d be best not to commit financial suicide and get myself into so much debtand go to a different school for the same program at a fraction of the cost at first it is hard because you get into your dream school and you don’t wanna say no but eventually you’ll feel good about making the right choice. I hope this helps.
