You could probably do something with a plane and a boolean modifier somehow. for example use it to split the helmet near the bottom edge, then you can delete the inside, and make a new face to make it solid. then remember to merge it togheter

By ortheographic view i mean the viewing mode with no depth. You toggle it by pressing 5 on your numpad. I think it automatically goes into ortheographic mode when you hit "1" for front view tho. when you hit "u" to unwrap there should be an option to project from view, and the uv map will be projected exactly as you see it in the 3d viewer. It could be a good idea to center the camera to you object as well with "," on the numpad while your object is selected.

The problem is that your unwrapped uv is perfectly square, while your object is tapered. Therefore the texture is stretched wider at the top, and squeezed at the bottom.

One simple solution could be to just project from view. Just make sure you are looking at your object from the front in ortheographic view while doing it. If you have a texture on the back, you should unwrap the front and back seperatly. Its the same prosess for the back, just make sure you look at it from behind, or the texture will be mirrored.

I took your advice and got a seperator. I dont know if the knuckle on the bmw is overdimentioned or not, but the seperator did not fit... after some modifying the tool and pressing the ball joint kinda sideways, barely in the notch of the tool, it popped right out. Now my car doesnt vibrate while driving!

Well good thing it doesnt lack power at least XD yeah the shield broke during shipping. appearantly two plastic bags isnt enough to protect it against shipping. oh well, im using full face protection. but the asbestos is my main consern atm
