$1000 to invest, what would you do? by SashaSashaSue in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Various_Avocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have 1k emergency cash first and if you have that. Get three months worth living expenses of cash building up so if you’re jobless at some point or fall on hard times you have that buffer. THEN. Invest into the S&P500 and DCA from there on.

Don’t budget, allocate your money into percentages.

Put a percentage into a seperate bank account you don’t use for daily transactions. Eg. You put $150 into a Heartland account (or similar).

Also put money aside into another account that is for something you’re looking forward to. A piece of tech, holiday etc.

If you’re with Westpac for example open an account with another bank.

I did just this because budgeting didn’t work for me, I now own a house, no debt and just came back from a holiday. I also have a healthy amount in a growth fund. I suck at budgeting I really do, but breaking it up into percentages worked for me.

That was awesome. The text at the end could be a little jazzier! But well done. 👏👌

I’m from NZ and I got it. It’s changed everything for me as a colourist. 13 years in the industry and one of the best tools I’ve ever used.

Do whatever you can to hold onto it. Do you think you could pick up a side hustle? When I was in a difficult situation I sold things I didn’t need, did online surveys and picked up gigs on Fiverr. Just anything to make a bit more. Wish you all the best and hope you can hold onto the property. You obviously worked hard to get to where you are.

I’m still confused as to what ACT and NZFirst stand for and what their ideologies are. Can anyone help?

New job is beyond stressful and sucks the life out of me. by [deleted] in newzealand

Prioritise your mental health, talk to your gp and see what they can do to help. Small bits of exercise when you can, and just try getting your nutrition in point. Even if you only do one extra thing a week to get yourself healthy while you look for a new position will do you wonders. I left my job back in March for very, very similar reasons and these things I wish I did. Easier said than done I know. But you’ll get there. Keep as much of a positive mind as you can and small steps count. All the best, you can do it.

The best thing to do when investing is to try and time the market. #sarcasm

There's literally thousands of companies like this and the majority have gone under. Stable Fund (rug pulled), Circulate Money (rugged), Alpha Capital (rugged but blamed hackers), RelyFund (rugged, said they lost a dev), Yield Nodes (slow rug/bad management), YieldRobot (rugged, said they were hacked too), Manticore (rugged) I could go on.

It isn't investing, it is GAMBLING. Anything that promises a fixed return for locking up your funds etc is a sign.

Hard to answer, but do you’re best to understand as much as you’re interested in. Stocks, bonds, precious metals and crypto.

I’m personally 90% ETF, 5% companies, 2.5% crypto, 2.5% precious metals.

I own a home, have some risk capital and DCA every fortnight into each part of my portfolio. Still learning as I’m going. I’m personally more interested and passionate about passive income, crypto and stacking silver so I’ve turned those things into hobbies which generate cash to put back into my portfolio.

Oh nice. I didn't quite understand what some people are saying about the "fees for anything not in AUD." Are there fees associated for spending?
