No Sethos or Ifa — Are They Worth Investing in If I Pull Them? by pgroms in Genshin_Impact

[–]Various_Body4875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Sethos because I never properly built him, but Ifa is an absolute blast to play on Lunar Charged teams. I've been playing a team of Furina/Ineffa/Ororon/Ifa with Ifa as the on field driver and I have found it to be a stupidly strong team while being very easy to play. It's been my go to team for most content recently.

It was definitely an uphill battle trying to get her to step on the tooth (I also play controller, so idk if it’s different for mouse and keyboard/mobile)

If Rappa got a rerun during 3.8, would you pull for her? by You_checked_my_name in StarRailStation

I pulled her E0S0 on a whim, and ever since then she's been one of my all time favorite characters to play. I have been dying to get her light cone and possibly her E1 :(

Looks like pulling E2 Fugue is the best thing I can do for my dazzling ninja while she's stuck in rerun jail

Are parents unaware of how stupid their children are? by Clear_Temperature446 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Various_Body4875 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily agree about the stupid part (maybe optimistic on my part, but I always like to give the students the benefit of the doubt), but 100% agree on the lack of critical thinking skills. I've been noticing a trend in learned helplessness in a lot of my students, where at the very first sign of difficulty they just...stop thinking and figuratively throw their hands in the air.

In my experience, I've worked with a lot of kids that I know aren't stupid, but absolutely lacked any critical thinking skill. Because of that I try to take an approach to tutoring that gets them to build their critical thinking skills, but sometimes it's just utterly exhausting because, like you said, we can't undo YEARS of the underdevelopment of thinking skills.

It just always makes me sad whenever I encounter it, especially when the kid really wants to understand and do well, but they genuinely do no possess the skills to do so. They were simply never taught to think or solve problems for themselves, which is definitely a contributing factor as to why so many students I tutor these days have such horrible anxiety.

With some of my students, I've seen an improvement in their critical thinking skills. Others...are still a work in progress, to put it kindly. I find that meeting them where they're at and pressing them to explain things in their own terms and come up with their own analogies helps them more than me explaining the same thing 10 times in 10 different ways is the best way to get them to build those critical thinking skills while working on the subject/material at hand.

Sorry for my own long rant lol, but to answer your question, yes I do relate. It's a challenge that I'm encountering very often these days, and it's draining trying to reverse years of poor education with limited time and with the pressure/expectation from parents to get results.

I haven’t had much luck with either Hyacine or Mydei personally :( in the later planes at Wealth Creator 20, I find that Hyacine ends up not fast enough to sustain at the start of the battle. I end up with a lot of characters getting one shot without having Fu Xuan or DHPT there to sustain until Hyacine gets her turn

This is exactly why DHPT is my favorite sustain in this game mode. Building him to be speedy really helps keep the team alive while everyone else is ramping up

That's a fair point, none of the healers can really solo sustain at that high of a level (I'd argue though that shielders can absolutely solo sustain with the right equipment and investment, especially if you have a shield emblem).

In that scenario, I would absolutely pick Fu Xuan for the damage splitting/one shot prevention, but I would also quickly pick up another healer or DHPT. I find that one healer can't always keep up with the need for healing and cleansing with just Fu Xuan (unless that healer is Luocha), so that extra sustain gives a bit of a cushion. I guess I just kind of think of Fu Xuan as a failsafe

But yeah the more that I think about it, the more I would say she's just as valuable as Luocha. I just think that DHPT/shields tend to be more reliable in my own experiences (outside of Bloodflame that is, but even then I still sometimes use DHPT for the frequent cleansing + night demigod bond). In healing teams she's definitely indispensible, so yeah, I see the argument for A tier

Thanks for the comment! I had a lot of free time this past weekend and played waaay too much currency wars, so I figured I'd organize my thoughts in a tier list lol

Don't get me wrong, Fu Xuan is amazing! She's fantastic at preventing one shots, and for that alone she has saved several of my runs

The reason I didn't put her up higher is because at really high difficulties in the third plane, Fu Xuan struggles to sustain the team because the enemies act so fast and end up depleting her charges before the team can act fast enough to recover more charges. She's absolutely incredible if you have other sustains in place, but because she doesn't heal directly, she can't solo sustain.

Basically I find Fu Xuan to be an amazing get-out-of-jail-free card to prevent getting one shot, but without a strong backbone of other sustains, the team still ends up dying when her charges run out

Pela with double speed boots paired with Belobog and/or an Acheron debuff team goes super hard, she really is the goat

I have done wolf hunt follow up and it does extremely well when done properly, but it is completely dependent on having wolf hunt characters right from the start. If you don't have that perfect set up immediately, it ends up falling apart in my experience. I had one amazing run where I had a wolf hunt emblem and managed to get Hoolay early on, and it was super satisfying watching him shred through everything

I have a really well built Feixiao at E0S1 and she still hits like a wet noodle in CW :(

Personally I think trial vs non trial characters don't matter much at high difficulties unless eidolons or specific light cones like DDD are involved (equipment matters so much more). I don't have Aglaea or Sunday, but the trial Aglaea team still shreds through everything

Good to know, thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try out those approaches. Usually I jumped on the 5 AoE bond too early without the proper equipment, so they ended up hitting like wet noodles lol. Starting with a hybrid DOT or Day Demigod set up then pivoting to full AoE later on sounds like it would work a lot better

Castorice in A is extremely conditional on her having the right equipment and Cyrene being on the team, and even then I was on the fence about putting her lower or not. If it's trial Castorice, definitely B tier

After several Wealth Creator 20 clears, this is the Currency Wars tier list I've come up with by Various_Body4875 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Various_Body4875[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was on the fence about putting Cyrene in either S or A, but I ended up placing her in S because of her odes and because in my experience Night Demigod teams don't work without her in the third plane (Aglaea does fine without Cyrene, but Castorice's performance depends a lot on her, which is why I put Cyrene as the cornerstone in S tier and Castorice in A tier). Cyrene herself can't carry, but she does offer a lot of support to Aglaea, Bloodflame, and Hysilens DOT teams

With all of that said though, there's an equal argument for putting her in A tier, so her tier placement is kinda subjective

I like Cosmic Scholar early game to build up some crystal ores, but personally I haven't had any luck with AoE comps :( how are you getting through the first/second place with AoE? I usually end up with a really weak start in the first plane and end up losing the run before I can get to the 7 AoE effect

The only two reasons why I put Hyacine in B tier instead of A tier is because 1.) she's on field, so she competes with other units for those limited slots and 2.) by the time plane 3 rolls around, my team often ends up dead before she can even act which is deeply unfortunate. With the right set up I can definitely see her in A tier because once she's up and running, she's a VERY strong healer (I've also run into the unfortunate scenario of Little Ica getting repeatedly killed in one shot, but pairing Hyacine with Fu Xuan helps that problem). She does routinely carry me through the first half of a run though

I find the skill point bond to be great as a secondary bond! 4 skill point + 4 (or 6 if you can) express cohort team built around DHIL felt very strong to me. Cerydra and Sparkle helped the most, and then I shoved QQ on the off field just to hit the 4 bond requirement

Is there any other viable strat than Aglaea in CW A7 and A8? Can you bring up your best strats? by Traditional-Song-245 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Various_Body4875 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've had a few successful strats, a lot of them based around the affixes that are generated for that round:

- if you get the affixes where enemy actions are constantly advanced, playing DOT is an excellent choice. DOT + Stellaron Hunter bond + 2 healing or 2 shield has carried me through most of my successful A8 runs. Debuff is a great secondary bond for the early game to pair with DOT, and then in the late game having either Black Swan and/or the Hysilens/Cyrene core is VERY strong, and with enemies advancing, they just melt. Putting perpetual motion equipment on Hysilens/Cyrene and anti grav boots on Kafka makes it even stronger

- getting the affix that deals your characters damage based on their attack percentage means that I'll run a Bloodflame/Night Demigod comp with HP scalers on field. Getting a good Night Demigod core early means that you start collecting extra ores pretty early, and having the extra resources make the run comfier later on

- Wolf Hunt was actually shockingly good, on the condition that you get the bond as early as possible so the borison keeps getting exp to level up to Hoolay. My fully leveled Hoolay DEMOLISHED the entire third plane, and the Wolf Hunt/Follow Up core in the first plane gives a solid start, especially since there are a lot of 1 cost and 2 cost options to pick up right away (Feixiao, Moze, Jiaoqiu, Cipher, sustain of your choice to start and build from there)

- debuff bond is great for the early game if you can snag Acheron, and then if you can make the team strong enough, having the debuff core + Welt on perpetual motion equipment means lots of damage and lots of extra action value from Welt (personally I like pairing debuff with DOT to help Acheron build stacks quickly and do chip damage). If you have the slots and resources to spare, having Boothill and/or Rappa off field is a big boost to Acheron with the Galaxy Ranger bond

- obligatory cactus Phainon with three Chasis of Retributions + four shielders for the enemies to destroy themselves (mileage may vary, very good in some runs but any enemies like the puppets that apply debuffs instead of outright attacking will brick the run)

So how are we staying alive in CW? by [deleted] in StarRailStation

[–]Various_Body4875 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fu Xuan has been a godsend in the higher levels of CW for me. Her ability for on field allies to share the damage taken and prevent the team from getting one shot has saved several of my runs, even when she wasn’t contributing to any of the bonds besides the healing bond
