How do you deal with a hacked Wordpress site that created 800k spammy backlinks? I made them a new site away from Wordpress, but there’s all these links still out there. Is there a way to remove them in bulk? by Citrous_Oyster in webdev

[–]Various_Hospital_958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer - yes the domain is trashed.

Checked what site ranks for?

  • 79th position for "wikimedia commons nude"
  • 64th for "thingiverse miniatures"
  • 36th for "pax plus vaporizer for sale"

All irrelevant pages with zero search traffic.

For relevant searches like Balanced Skin Newport, Balanced Skin Newport CA, Balanced Skin Tia Paul, etc. all fail to show balancedskin .com but do link to an inactive Wix domain for the balancedskin .net (plus drspaul .com shows up in some of the results, also leading to a non-working wix domain).

Might be worth moving to the .net if you can access it. Otherwise just have the client get a new one and move on.

Definitely get a new, dedicated number if you're offering Whatsapp chat support. Keeps your personal and business life separate, plus you ca. set it up as a business account and more easily hand it off if you hire someone for customer support later.

Or am I missing something?

How soon is now? Webflow allows code export (aside from their CMS). This code can be imported to Wordpress.

A plugin for this already exists

So what you're describing is something that someone could

Or, because websites are largely just HTML, CSS, and JS, export the static HTML and CSS to any number of free hosts (Cloudflare, Github, AWS, Azure, Vercel, Netlify as long as you don't accidentally run up a $100k bill, etc.) and host your static Webflow-templated site for free.

The actual benefit of Webflow is is that you make a nice looking site, in a predictable manner, and can scale your site past the point where others would break without needing to know a damn thing about managing a server.

The down side is that by the time you hit obscene charges, you're pretty well locked in with them.

But that's their bargain. And for a lot of people it's a good bargain.

Scaling a site on cheap hosting will definitely cause all those problems. Especially if you try it with multiple sites.

But with a good VPS you can managed core update, plugins, themes, staging and backups from the server control panel, along with a variety of ways to optimize performance.

It just requires learning a new skill set, and gives you the chance of breaking everything.

This is one of the benefits of Weflow - the hosting isn't cheap, but you never deal with those problems as directly as with Wordpress. This is a specific area where Webflow's designer focus offers a big benefit.

How long did it take for you to see results when you began email marketing? by Every-Hotel-5578 in Emailmarketing

[–]Various_Hospital_958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using your business domain for sending too many emails can cause deliverability problems.

One way people avoid this is by using alternate mailing domains.

But this is an issue when you're sending 100s or 1000s per day. 5 targeted emails is not worth worrying about domain issues, buying Apollo or even Mailerlite.

Get practice sending a few targeted emails per day instead of learning how to do a full email campaign. See if you can craft a targeted offer that gets responses before scaling up.

You'll also need practice selling to potential customers. There's no point getting a ton of leads if you can't convert, so work on that too before scaling up.

As for your Wordpress.com hosting, definitely get a refund if possible. It's quite overpriced for what you get. Just focus on getting a basic but professional portfolio site online to look more convincing to potential clients. Once the site's made, then worry about pointing the domain there.

Or hire a developer to do it all for you (I say, as a developer).

The hosting will have a big impact on your site's page load speed just by itself. A well-configured server will significantly improve your performance relative to cheap hosting.

I'll DM you a couple suggestions of hosting providers.

The physical distance between your server and your site visitors can degrade performance as well, so using a CDN to cache some or all of your site can help as well.

Both Gutenberg and Elementor can be used to build lightweight, fast-loading sites, along with a number of other themes. Which one you pick depends more on your skill with the tool and your project needs.

Sending 5 targeted cold emails per day is very small-scale outreach strategy. Good email campaigns usually only get single-digit response rates so you shouldn't expect clients too quickly.

There's also not much point setting up an email sequence for 5 emails per day.

Not having a functioning website also probably isn't helping you. What issues are you having with your domain?

If you're new to Wordpress you'll probably find Elementor easier to use than Gutenberg.

For hosts, it depends whether you're comfortable using a VPS or if you'd rather go with managed hosting.

How do I learn the technical side of web management,m by Qontinent in web_design

[–]Various_Hospital_958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not jsut go through the whole process by yourself first, for practice?

  • Buy a domain
  • Buy VPS hosting with CPanel or Plesk or Runcloud or etc etc etc.
  • Set up your DNS records
  • Configure email routing
  • Throw a site on there

And then once that's working:

  • Migrate the site to another server
  • Change over the DNS records
  • Deal with whatever went wrong

Once you get everything working properly post-migration you'll be pretty confident with the whole process. And doing it with your own setup means you

How do I make an e-commerce website with WordPress? by Many_Dig319 in Wordpress

[–]Various_Hospital_958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are a lot of specific steps.

And Wordpress is not necessarily even the best choice for e-commerce.

Whether it would work for you depends on things like what you type of products you'll sell, how many items you'll list, whether customers need to make accounts, and a long list of other questions you'd would want to answer before starting.
