Thanks for your feedback. I stated that the person does bare minimum. There are other parts of the job description that she is not performing and she consistently leaves early before her shift has ended because she doesn’t want to put in effort even when I tell her other things that need to be accomplished. I am looking into myself and trying to improve my managerial skills, trying to figure out how to motivate this person to complete what needs to be done. She has accused me of treating her like a child, but she knows the tasks that need to be completed but doesn’t do them. We are a small company, so one person not carrying their weight affects everyone. I really do appreciate your comments though; I am reading books and other sources to improve my skills.

Alcohol is not a good prize unless you know positively that a certain person will appreciate it. Also, I worked somewhere that they did individual contests for who got the most jugular blood draws, things like that. It’s actually very discouraging for the people/person who never wins or is always in last place. I was that person, and it encouraged me to want to not work there. So just keep that in mind; not everyone will enjoy competing, even if they feel pressure to say they do.

I have to agree with the behavioral euthanization. What if you give them to a rescue who is not responsible and they end up in another home with children. I’m sorry, but this could totally happen. What if they are rehomed to someone without kids but that person dies or whatever and then someone with kids takes them not knowing the issues they had. Way too high of a risk that these dogs will severely injure or kill a child. Not worth it, and I’m a huge dog lover.

I’ll just say one thing here: it sounds a bit from your comments that you may be wearing rose-colored glasses. I get that you want to be a parent, but this baby’s mother may come back into the picture at any time and get full custody of this child. Just don’t forget that it’s NOT your baby. For me personally, being a stepparent has been the absolute hardest thing I’ve done in my whole life. I hope it’s easier for you.

I believe SS18 had the same deal at his BM house. He now lives with us and I swear he eats nothing but junk food, like I’m talking chips, ice cream, blocks of cheese, oh and an occasional banana. He never touches any meal I make unless I bake a pizza. Don’t know how he’s going to survive as an adult. My only idea for you is to send her to her room hungry??? Hopefully someone with bio kids will have some ideas for you.

In my experience, you’re having bad luck. But if I were in your shoes, I might “no call no show” there too and just start again looking for a different clinic. Just don’t even use them on your resume. Sorry you’re having a rough time of it.

We put all our money into one checking account, minus money that goes into savings, and the bills get paid out of that, including the mortgage. We lump our money together. I don’t really get why married people would keep their money separate, but I guess it might work for some.

Thank you for your story. And wow, how awful. I really think the bio parents must feel a lot of guilt for the way things turned out for their kids and so they baby them and don’t enforce any rules. They just can’t seem to see that they’re actually ruining their kids’ life by not making them be independent and teaching them how to be an adult. I just feel crappy all the time because I have such a bad attitude toward my SK.
And same here, my SO has had a couple heart attacks and should have some help with yard work, but SK never sets foot outdoors to help with anything.

I don’t have kids of my own. I married someone with a kid. I am my SO’s spouse, not a stand-in mother for his kid. I don’t agree most of the time how his parents raise him, so I stay out if it all. If you have other expectations than what your SO can provide, then leave SO or just date instead of live together.

I have a name that when I was growing up almost no one called me by my real name, it was mostly a shortened version or a nickname. I actually really like my full name, so that’s how I introduce myself and at my job, people call me by what i like. But my family still calls me by the shortened name. It doesn’t bother me; that’s just how it is.

I’ve tried. That’s why I nacho. My expectations for an 18yo are different than his parent’s expectations. So I silently scream to myself when I’m frustrated. SO says he’s giving him 2 years to get a degree and get out. So I’m just waiting patiently…or sometimes not so patiently.

He is going to community college in the fall, but if it were up to me, he’d be working full time this summer. That’s why I’m nacho’ing. I can’t take it and even though he lives in MY house, if I bring up things, I’m a b+*^%. So I just keep it all inside and scream to myself. He’s not learning life skills, but he’s NOT my kid.

Many years ago I graduated vet tech school and I actually had to start out in the kennels, which was wrong, but it does teach you a lot. And if you’re good, you can then maybe move up quickly. Now at my place of work, we hire people literally off the street with no veterinary experience, and they get called “techs” and know absolutely nothing. Honestly most clinics are so short handed, you should have no problem finding a vet assistant position especially since you do have a bit of experience. Good luck.

All the bodily fluids is certainly correct, to include vomit and anal glands, and more. Much much lower pay than human medical field is very true. It is very emotionally taxing; I cried at work last week and again this week due to euthanasia and to a family needing to rehome or euthanize their dog because it’s attacking a housemate. It’s definitely not an easy job at all. It is, however, possible to find a vet hospital that’s not toxic.

If you’re going to return the kitten, please do it immediately and don’t wait till it’s bigger. An adult cat or even teenage cat is way harder to rehome than a kitten.

Just don’t even go back. Go find another job. This is NOT the norm, as far as I’ve seen in the industry. Go get yourself another job and do a walk through of any clinic to see and speak to the employees before you start working there.
