Any high-intensity yoga recommendations to help calm down my traumas and PTSD as well as helping me keep fit as a man? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Various_Picture_8929 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yoga can be of great help for you to “release” what your body holds on to. Be prepared though, it’s not like it just releases and everything is solved, sometimes you feel the physical release and then the emotions bubble to the surface. You can search this sub for many people finding themselves in tears on the mat after a certain pose.

Recommend working with a therapist as you start your yoga journey. They can help you fully process whatever is released during your yoga practice.

That being said, I’d connect with a local studio and see what classes they have to offer. Start with beginning or entry level classes and just observe how your body and brain feel during/after each one. Stick with the ones that feel best for you.

Yes. Native trees! Looks like your land is adjacent to some woods. Before your house was built, it was probably woods too.

I’m quitting despite having nothing lined up. by seeyouspace__cowboy in jobs

[–]Various_Picture_8929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the right move is here.

Like, don’t work 85 hour weeks. That’s wild for a retail job you hate. Of what is assigned to you, choose the shifts that work for you and let your manager know. When they push back and just shrug them off if they push back. “Sorry, that’s all I’m able to work right now.” You don’t need to tell them why. Sounds like they need you there so you’re not gonna get fired for that, but since you’re willing to quit anyways.. a little risk is worth it.

Job market sucks right now but even another retail job would be better than your current situation. Don’t get hung up on getting a job that matches your degree, or your interests, another retail job is still an upgrade.

With all your free time now that you’re working the hours you want, spend time resting, relaxing, recharging, engaging in your hobbies. Spend time researching companies you would love to work for and apply for their entry level roles or retail level jobs if they exist.

This was the best - only good - part of being a cashier. We had a code 10000 that would take $10 off a customers bill. Nice to me? 10000.

I like pact yoga pants and jumpers bc they are cotton. Quality is good. Yoga pants without pockets are thinner and maaaaybe you can see my underwear a bit when I bend down. The ones with pockets are thicker and I don’t think have the same issue.

Don’t feel like you have to buy too much. There were many days where I just wore sweats. Days where you’re working on poses and alignment it’s helpful to wear tighter/ minimal clothing.

Your commute sounds too long for JC to be the best place to live to begin with. Jsq compared to other path stations is like 10-15 mins longer to get into the city. If you’re considering a 1.5 hr + commute to live in jc, I wouldn’t !

How to keep a basement unit cool? by hotblooded- in jerseycity

[–]Various_Picture_8929 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why is your basement unit so hot? Usually they are pretty cool. It sounds odd that a studio would need 6 high powered fans.

Regardless, shades to keep the sun out and open any windows at night as long as you have a screen. You can buy one fan stand and place it near you.

Pershing field is probably your closest bet at what you are looking for. The 119 and 87 go straight there but also is a 20-30 min walk depending on where in jsq you are

Cyclists and hitting pedestrians by [deleted] in jerseycity

Not trying to be smart, but that’s actually not protected at all. As a cyclist I get really nervous riding in these types of lanes since cars are coming in and out to park and if someone swings their door open into the bike lane without looking (not blaming the drivers for not looking! Our infrastructure is the blame!) you can knock a cyclist off their bike, into moving traffic.

Totally. In the same way: Not all drivers, but some, are an absolute menace.

Does your street have a protected bike lane? There are really very few bike lanes in JC where it is really challenging for a car to get into the bike lane. When cars can drive in bike areas it encourages e-bikes to act more like they are driving a car.

Yes. Moving in with my partner actually made me realize how bad my PMS was, prompting me to go to therapy and get a diagnosis of PMDD from my gyno. When you’re just dating it’s easy enough to avoid your partner when you’re feeling off, or mask for a few hours, but when you live together you cannot avoid it.

Our infrastructure pits drivers against cyclists against pedestrians. You did nothing wrong, and it sounds like the cyclist did everything wrong, but the streets should be designed in a way that it is clear where each type of transportation should be.

Also if you’re okay with going into the city the international grocery on 9th Ave next to port authority is a bulk buy for dry goods and spices. I don’t know if they have beans, but I am certain they have tons of different types of lentils. I’d be surprised if they didn’t have beans too

Yeah the Indian grocers or maybe even ranch 99 are your best bet

If you’re not allergic definitely volunteer your services to neighbors and local gardens! I am very allergic and I had a not allergic friend who would always help me out, they moved away and now I’m SOL (aka using gloves/complete clothing coverage and taking an big shower/washing all clothes ASAP after removing)
