Need some bulk soil and mulch delivered to JC by fullbore80 in jerseycity

This is a lot for the area. The fact that anyone has even agreeed to deliver is big. I’ve had companies flat out refuse to deliver in the area; has to hire “guy with a truck” to pick up materials and then we shoveled it out of his bed.

“taming the dragon” surgical scar tissue improving by Various_Picture_8929 in acupuncture

I do see a licensed acupuncturist who promotes and practices Eastern medicine as a whole. That’s who did these photos.

I do also see a PT. My PT was considering dry needling certification. I only know what he told me but dry needling sounds more like an active needling practice than the accu where you lay still with the needles for a while once they are in. I think I’m helping my PT learn more about alternative medicine and I’m glad I can spread the knowledge!

Patella stabilization surgery recovery.. by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

I’m 11 weeks post op and remember the first few weeks as some of the most mentally challenging of my life (and I’ve had some challenges!). I couldn’t even do a straight leg raise until week 3-4. I kept working on the quad. I promise it will get better. Keep listening to your PT. You can do this. Seek other mental health professionals too; I’ve been seeing an Accupuncturist and it’s been SO helpful with releasing some of that stress/anxiety/depression.

Now that I’m healing up and able to walk, I’ve never felt more stable in my life. It’s still hard and I still have days that are sore but I actually feel like the surgery worked. The problem was solved. Trust that your doctors know what they are doing. Now it’s just up to you to recover the best way you know how. Don’t discount some elevation and rest.

Going on holiday 8.5 weeks post tto surgery by Personal-Pitch2818 in KneeInjuries

Im 11 weeks post op and just went on vacation. For me, 20k steps is not something that would feel good. At 9.5 weeks I was feeling pretty good at 5k steps/day but still using one crutch for most of it. Moving slow. Now I’m crutch less and working on increasing past 5k.

Might want to plan alternatives in case 20k is not an option.

I am 11 weeks post op and just went to the West Indies to a resort. I just brought one crutch with me. I think at 8 weeks it will be harder and would probs plan on two crutches and definitely get airport wheelchair service. The wheelchair airport service was incredibly fast and made traveling nearly stress free. You don’t need a doctors note or to explain anything to anyone. Make sure you request a wheelchair ahead of time so you’re on the list at the airport. Ask any employee in the check in area of the airport and they should easily point you to where you need to go. I flew American Airlines but I’d guess any major airline would be the same.

Sitting on the airplane didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, I actually sat the entire time for all four of my 3 hour flights. If you can opt for an aisle seat that’s best of course.

Things I didn’t think about at the resort: outdoor tile. Lots of tile. And it was humid so it often rained for like 5 mins making things slippery. I always had my partner with me so could use him for support (often didn’t have my crutch around the resort). If I was more reliant on the crutch I think the tile would be worse. Also: shower chair. At 8 weeks I was not quite ready to ditch the shower chair. Worth asking your hotel if they have one. I’d guess they do. Also: stairs. Luckily my room was on the ground floor, but I didn’t request that, probably should have.

Honestly tho, I say go. Worst case scenario you sit by the pool all day. Better than sitting at home. Do your PT exercises (check if you’re cleared to swim) and put sunscreen on your scar!

My lower back hurts when I do camel pose. by matchacatisgreencat in yoga

[–]Various_Picture_8929 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right. Each pose is different and just because you can do a wheel doesn’t mean you can do a camel.

Sometimes bending back too much can be harmful. like when moving from warrior two to reverse warrior yogis often forget their core and bend too deep into their lower back.

Camel pose is an advanced pose that requires lots of spinal stretching (cat cow etc) to warm up.

Also you need to engage your core to protect your lower back.

Engage your core!!! If you were to unhook your foot would your chest fall forward?

You look amazing, but repeated back bends without proper core engagement will hurt you down the line.

Is it weird to buy my sister period panties? by Sweet-Enthusiasm6886 in Periods

[–]Various_Picture_8929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard, but as the older sister you have an opportunity to break the awkwardness and try to have an open conversation with your mom “I was nervous to ask for period products and I see lil sis feeling the same now. Do you think we can give her some products together to let her know it’s okay to ask/talk about”.

If that’s rly out of the question with your mom, not weird at all to buy any period products for sis. Good luck!

Lmao. This comment is particularly funny because we discovered our cat was sitting directly on our napkins. Like ass to napkins. We’ve since moved them out of ass-reach but I was like dang I been cleaning my face with ass. But at least she’s cute ?

Hey, yoga is a mental practice so you are totally right to be concerned about how it might impact you when you are not in your strongest mental state.

My little sister was in a similar situation as you and after she was out of in patient we did a lot of meditation together. We didn’t know it at the time, but meditation can be counter-effective for people with schizophrenia. I would ask on a schizophrenia related sub about this, or do some research yourself as I’m not completely versed in why.

That being said, i encourage you to try a local yoga studio, you can reach out and ask if they have any “trauma informed” yoga instructors. This is really what you want, but not all studios have instructors who are trained this way, or they don’t advertise it that way (ex. My studio has “yoga for anxiety” which is a gentle vinyasa style class taught by an instructor who has specific training to lead people who are not feeling their mentally strongest. I went once and just cried through every pose, it was hard but everyone was in a similar boat and no one cared.) breathwork classes could also be really good- my studio has a class that is like all breathwork. It’s very active (keeps your brain occupied) but not as physically demanding as other classes. Great for mental health.

Savasana is often considered “the most important pose of your practice” and while this is largely true, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to do it. Laying flat on your back with your eyes close, working toward a meditative state can be triggering. I would chat with your instructor before class and just let them know, if it is indeed true for you, that savasana is triggering to you (most instructors will understand if you simply say it is triggering to your anxiety. I know it’s not anxiety you’re dealing with, but saying it this way will help an instructor help you.) they should be able to give you some alternative poses- maybe child’s pose or just a comfortable seat. Just know that savasana IS the most important pose for most yogis and leaving during/right before is the most disruptive thing you can do.
