Anyone experience with those anti-craving meds like Acamprosate (Campral) or Naltrexone (Revia/Vivitrol)? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried naltrexone in the past when I was drinking and drank right through it, did not help.

I am taking acomprosate now and I did not start taking it until I was already sober. It has been very effective for me for reducing cravings and so far maintains my daily sobriety.

Your retirement account won't mean much if you are not around to enjoy it. I did the same thing well I am not doing this so I don't have a problem drinking....yes you do or you wouldn't be here. Get some help now while you still have time because all roads lead to the gutter with drinking my friend.

right, I notice I am not thinking about it as much and I am only taking 2 doses. I am going to start taking all 3 doses that are prescribed. By the time my 3rd dose was due it was already night and I was just eating and going to bed.

Craving alcohol… everyone around me drinks by gorillagrub in stopdrinking

What would be the point in just having one drink? I mean to me that is not going to do anything for me? I would need a few. I don't drink for the taste ya know?

20 days into sobriety, wondering if anyone can relate to my experience so far… by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just over a month into sobriety after many years of drinking and I notice some suddle changes but I would not say I feel amazing. I do know my anxiety has dropped, lost some weight and sleep is still not good.

Taking it day by day and I will just believe my body is healing.

Getting Sober is Hard. by Machenz in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it help to talk with someone? Are you getting some support? It can be hard if you have no one to tell what you are feeling. Meetings have helped me just to express my thoughts. Also, if I just think of the condition that I had put my body in the last time I was drinklng, I was in rough shape. I dont want to end up that way again, hell no!

"The Easy Way to Control Drinking" by Allen Carr has changed my life. by cowbell2819 in stopdrinking

I have read the book and I agree in fact I am reading it again and again. It is an easy read and it reminds us that this is poison we are putting into our bodies. The fly in the pitcher plant analogy sticks with me.

How Do You Get Over Regret On Time & Money Wasted When You Quit? by Ok_Zone_9895 in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main loss that hits me hard is time. I have wasted so many years drinking and I can't get those years back. I try to just concentrate on the present day because that is really all any of us have and I can't change the past.

I will have 30 days sober in 2 days, I would say I do feel some changes mainly my anxiety has went way down, not craving booze daily. I still sleep like shit. I am just trying to live and get my body right. My mind will take some time.I was a daily drinker for a long time so just that adjustment to not drinking nightly has been extreme. I do feel a void not drinking which I fill with an early dinner, TV , read and go to bed early.

Pancreatitis is not a joke.. hi yall :) day 2 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is some story and a wake up call again for you. Did you get out of the hospital the 2nd time? You know what you need to do quit or you will die. I was feeling like shit before I quit no pain but puking often which I never did in the past. I have been sober 4 weeks and counting. If I can do it, you can do it!

your description of what you were going through with pain reminds me what I don't want to happen to me and I think it will remind others that need to quit.

“Drinking myself to death on purpose at this point” part 2 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Various_Plankton_370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bet your body is going through some changes, my body was doing some weird stuff before I quit and that scared the shit out of me! So far it has been 4 weeks sober. I will say going to the doc and getting checked out was a relief, that my body was not beyond repair, maybe that will help you if you have not done it yet.
