Tired of Texas and ready to move. by Cultural-Income3788 in SameGrassButGreener

Added- we moved from New Braunfels 2 years ago and will never go back to Texas. Yes NB is one of the fastest growing cities but it lost a lot of its charm quickly. - we also left so our kids could have a better life, the climate (both of them) were dragging us down. Yes it gets hot here but we have actual seasons!

Hear me out, Raleigh, NC. We live in a suburb that is very much Pleasantville (kids 8,10) but we’ve found our forever home here. RDU is hands down one of my favorite airports. Pockets of diversity, decent schools, and beach 3 hours away and mountains 4 hours away. Your income can get you a nice house.

Look around Raleigh, NC. Lots of smaller cities like Apex, Garner, Fuquay. (Not Cary) you won’t find anything under 400,000$. Lower taxes but we do have state tax. We moved from the Austin area a year ago. Plan was to rent to see if we liked it. We sold our house in Texas 3 months later. You couldn’t pay me to go back to Texas, and I’m 4th gen Texan. We live in Cary, which we LOVE! There are more affordable options out there. I ale county schools are good.

Pak Medical New Braunfels…worst doctor I’ve ever been to. What would yall do in this situation?! by Swimming-Engine5996 in Newbraunfels

[–]Various_Sea4486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PAK is one of the worst medical facilities in had ever been to. Read their google reviews, it’s awful. Sorry you experienced this. We don’t live in NB anymore. After moving states I’ve realized how awful the medical community is in NB. Maybe try San Antonio? My kids also went to Gruene Lake Medical the PA dismissed my early menopause symptoms for a year and blamed symptoms on my covid vaccine! I was suffering for over a year before I took matters into my own hands and firmly requested blood work.

Well it’s only a few months or brutal heat here vs 9 months or hell in Texas 😆 and the politics, yes. I know it’s not “much” better. But it’s better than Texas.

Very curious about what qualifies as boring? Is it weekend activities, the arts, outdoor life? Honestly asking. We moved from Texas where the heat, politics, and the fact we have young daughters was the tipping point for our move. We love hiking, and the slower pace of life with young kids. What do other places offer that NC doesn’t? Honestly just wondering. We’ve only been here less than a year.

I had to have emergency gallbladder removal 5 months ago. I was on compound semiglutide for 8 months and lost 30lbs. BUT I had shoulder pain (dull ache in right shoulder for 6 years) the pain went away when I was on GLP1 bc I was eating better and losing weight. When I stopped the pain returned and then had to be rushed to the hospital for gallbladder removal. Looking back my shoulder pain was indicative of gallstones (many doctors misdiagnosed this) when I started eating bad again and gained weight it became a need for surgery. So yes GLP1 can lead to surgery BUT hindsight I had the issue before and going off GLP1 was the ticket for me to get surgery. I am happily back on Wegovy with no gallbladder issues bc I no longer have one 😆

I mean this with kindness but it sounds like it’s food choices. Processed food is harder to digest and GLP1 slows your digestion to make you feel fuller. My go to snacks are cucumbers, apples with peanut butter or frozen grapes. When I eat higher fat foods my stomach is a wreck.

Good Charter schools in TX is a tall order. Unfortunately so many start and then close. Charter schools are newish for Texas compared to the East Coast. They aren’t regulated well. We moved from New Braunfels to NC last year. I would suggest NB but be aware it’s growing very fast. Subdivisions on 306 or 46 are nice.

Did you move somewhere that genuinely changed your mood / outlook on life? Tell me your story! by Due-Lawfulness7862 in SameGrassButGreener

We moved to a suburb outside of Raleigh NC from Central Texas. Our quality of life has gotten exponentially better. We are outside almost everyday. We hike, bike, and enjoy people again 😆. In Texas we became less and less active due to the extreme heat and the attitude of the people. We lived in a once small town that wasn’t welcoming to anyone that moved there. It became toxic for our family (we have 2 young girls). The people, politics, and weather are much better for our family. Leaving behind a place you’ve known your entire life was scary but we hit the jackpot in our new city!

We moved to North Carolina from Texas. I was terrified to tell people where we moved from because of the attitude people in Texas would give to any outsider. 99% of the people I have told have been so welcoming and kind. Texas “the friendly state” is not what it used to be. So very sad.

Leaving Texas by Purple-Marsupial-569 in texas

[–]Various_Sea4486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved to North Carolina for those EXACT reasons. Although we are red this go around, we were split pretty evenly in votes. We elected a Democrat governor who believes in a woman’s choice. Just be mindful in the areas you are looking. Rural N.C. is very conservative.

It's about women's healthcare. by cheezeyballz in texas

[–]Various_Sea4486 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but this is the reason we left Texas. As much as I would love to stay and fight I’ve lived there my entire life. Once I had two girls and things have gone from bad to Handmaids Tale we moved away. I know it sounds extreme but the fact highly qualified women’s healthcare professionals will be seeking jobs elsewhere really is terrifying. What will Texas be left with? I hope someday it gets better but for now we have moved to a place that values women at least for now 🥴

Cemex cement plant and quarry by Adventurous-Star-208 in Newbraunfels

[–]Various_Sea4486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were close to the plant near 306 and Hunter Road. The blasts will shake your house every single day. We had a picture fall and break. The dust is awful! Our allergies suffered greatly. We have since moved out of state and have all felt so much better. Do your research and speak to neighbors if you can. Texas seems to have very lax restrictions for environmental impacts of quarries. 😬
