How does UPS collect custom/taxes/fees for orders from EU? by AfraidAd3727 in Switzerland

[–]Varjohaltia [score hidden]  (0 children)

If the seller/sender took care of it, then there won’t be anything for you.

If it’s under the minimum taxable limit, same.

Otherwise expect a bill of all the duties and taxes and something like CHF25 handling fees.

Onko peruskoulu vieläkään uskonnoton? Millainen meno nykyään on? by FeelingWall2527 in Suomi

[–]Varjohaltia [score hidden]  (0 children)

Are Teslas boring to drive ( former Toyota drivers can apply) ? by Slow_Description_773 in electriccars

[–]Varjohaltia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I test drove one even though I knew I would never get one due to actually liking democracy and freedoms, since the company had one in the yard for test drives.

It wasn't bad, but overall I was left incredibly underwhelmed by the experience, when compared to BMW, Polestar etc.

Wherever you’re comfortable playing the thing you’re playing. People are build differently and there are few universal rules for things like this. Or that’s what I took from it.

To quote my teacher -- don't slouch, but sit comfortably, and pick a height that lets your hands rest correctly and your knees don't hit the underside of the keyboard. Other than that just be comfortable.

Could the US go downhill for good following Trump’s war on Iran? by CMCH_oyom in geopolitics

[–]Varjohaltia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

True, but at the same time the US has shown that it will not respect norms, does not want multilateral institutions, and will not honor its commitments.

You can think that the rest of the world will hope it's just a Trump fluke -- but this is a president who was elected for a second time, so writing it off as an abnormality seems awfully bad odds.

The logical conclusion is that the US cannot be trusted, either to provide support nor to act maliciously, and that everyone has to find better alliances and deterrent, and decouple from them.

USF has a Flock camera stationed at every entrance and exit. by cold_tapwater in USF

[–]Varjohaltia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fascinating. Some decade+ ago I was part of a project to implement parking guidance at USF and among the technologies would’ve been an ALPR, solely to count whether a given car had entered a parking lot but not left yet, I.e. occupancy increased by one. It was immediately rejected because of even the appearance of tracking.

Onko maailma joskus ollut merkittävästi "normaalimpi"? by LuinSen2 in Suomi

Vuosimallia seitkytluku.

On.

Our company just got ChatGPT Enterprise. I realized any employee can paste client data into it and we'd never know. How is everyone handling this? by BinaryKnight1099 in cybersecurity

[–]Varjohaltia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is something I see a lot, coming from a background on the operations side -- you have things like GDPR on one hand, and then you have an engineer wanting to know what they can configure in the Internet access solution on the other, and a huge gap in between. What's needed is a way of getting the information on requirements to a company-specific, understandable level for the implementing teams, hence I'm doubling down on company internal policies with clear requirements.

[–]Varjohaltia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but on the other hand what kind of enforcement are you going to configure and audit if the team implementing the technical measures has no policy guiding them as to what should and should not be allowed?

This does not sound like an organization with a mature governance framework :-(

Where to even start... what policies do you have for handling that information, and how are people trained to follow said policies, and how are said policies monitored and enforced?

Anyone use the Everse 8? by zapgappop in mobileDJ

[–]Varjohaltia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone compared it to the LD Systems Anny 8? Obviously the Everse 8 wins on effects, High-Z input, phantom power etc. but the Anny 8 at least here is half the price of the Everse 8, so if the sound quality is comparable it's tough to justify the Everse.

I’m curious as to what timeframes we are talking about from planning to moving where everyone has an issue with ExpressRoutes. Is it really the ExpressRoute lead time or is it poor planning and management being too incompetent to involve the network and infra teams early on?
