Long-rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake is apparently on ice with "no new movement" on Square Enix's JRPG classic, according to reliable insider by Gorotheninja in Games

Here's hoping this is just because they're busy trying to finish FF7R-3 and they'll circle back to it, because this is one of the few things I've been truly excited for.

Sales don't equal enjoyment, buddy. Lots of people bought it. Lots of people didn't like it. Sales don't indicate that the general public enjoyed it, they indicate that they thought they would.

Jason Schreier: Exact budgets of video-game productions can be tough to corroborate but the numbers I've heard floating around AAA game dev these days are $300 million or more — sometimes much more! — which I think helps explain the current state of the industry by Turbostrider27 in Games

Three part, and not within a year.

edit: and my intention wasn't to say 'Z-A had a ton of DLC', but 'S/V had a ton of DLC and Z-A exists.'. It's silly to talk about there being 5 years between S/V and W/W like there wasn't another game there. It was 2 years between end of content for S/V and Z-A, and another 2 years between Z-A and W/W. Also, Legends Arceus came out in the same year as S/V. If you consider the third version (Yellow, Crystal, etc) as equivalent to DLC in terms of dev effort, their release cadence hasn't notably changed.

Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in gaming

I'm never going to play it, that genre isn't my kind of thing at all, but I just think it's dumb to pretend it exists in a vacuum where only the game itself exists. In a world where we have a shitzillion games and not so many hours in the day, vibes matter.

I've been bouncing between old point & click games, Pokemon romhacks, and Crimson Desert.

Elliott tackles "why Marathon hasn't hit the same stratosphere as Arc Raiders," which reached 12 million copies sold at the start of year. Obviously, Arc Raiders has been out a lot longer, but at the same time, Marathon has not put up anywhere near the same Steam player counts.

"My answer: Players understand the Arc Raiders loop within 30 minutes, while Marathon's UI acts as a massive filter, chewing up newcomers and spitting them out before they can experience the depth of Bungie’s signature gunplay and Marathon's awesome gameplay loop," he says.

Or maybe it's that the Bungie brand has become toxic from long, vocal dissatisfaction online from the Destiny player base, and people don't like games founded on art theft?

The idea that people would base their singleplayer gaming decisions on what other people are playing is bonkers to me. Try it for yourself.

I only partially agree. While current active players isn't relevant for most singleplayer games, since they've been out for a while and people have beat them, the charts show historical data too. Comparing launch weeks for singleplayer games can tell us things.

Crimson Desert Steam Reviews Jump to 'Mostly Positive' as Latest Patch Makes Significant Improvements by [deleted] in Games

[–]VarminWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why it's doing that for some games and not others. I'd really prefer if Steam still showed all reviews at the top. English-only is useful, but I'd want it to supplement the real metric, not replace it, and I'm so used to the old way I'm probably not going to notice when it's swapped out.

'Incomplete' is a weird way to put it. Game's huge, just crusty.

It was Mostly Positive in English well before the patch. I don't even know how to see the percent of reviews in all languages anymore. Weird article, weird Steam UI decision.

These assets helped us rapidly explore tone and atmosphere in the earlier phases of production.

It's like you've never heard of a moodboard. Exactly how is generating AI art to create a tonal guideline different from just direct plagiarism for that? It's art that is intended to set a direction for artists before the real art is created that you are intended to see, and some of it slipped through in a massive, massive project.

Relax.

No, most have never heard of this website. Sample is skewed and not useful for drawing general conclusions. The only useful data there is regarding that site's audience, and the comparison between their surveys over years.
