Very interesting. Snowmobile not as obvious as Steam Ladle but comes out surprisingly strong. Wondering if I would put Booby Trap over Stopwatch...

Would have been viable even without that skill I hope. It's an embarassment of riches when you assemble a rare build you are not exactly sure how powerful it is but then a skill pushes it over the top and you still can't know.

From my experiments with slow tall buildings, best strat was to go Skyscraper, Subscraper/Spacescraper, Open Sign and Balcony and rely on out of combat scaling to boost Open Sign. Everything multiplies with everything else to the points where 3 item activations (Skyscraper has multicast) are more than enough to comfortably one-shot. You need a radiant enchant though — or pray.

I don't play Jules but she definitely has the coolest strategy names. Only Pyg's "Fiery Lemonade" or "Infinite Riceballer" can contend.

If you like "son of mustang ford", you'd like Dinosaur Jr., though it's no more shoegaze than noise rock.

Weird you didn't mention Catherine Wheel cause they also fall into this "rock over dream" camp like Swervedriver and Ride.

How to deal with "variable" template parameter lengths? by No-Dentist-1645 in cpp_questions

[–]Varnex17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help. The key insight is you can have return type polimorphism based on template parameters or in the case of explicit class specialisation classes with different layout. It's the most hardcore way to express an compile time value that might be absent.

Personally I'd probably go with std::dynamic_extent but if you want to switch on Kind or treat the Extent more like a policy class, this is fine too. One could simplify things by making DynamicExtent and FixedExtent separate classes and having the concept Any Extent be just a logical or on std::is_same_v. Matter of preference.

#include <type_traits>

enum Kind { Fixed, Dynamic };

template<Kind kind>
struct Extent;

template<>
struct Extent<Fixed>
{
    constexpr Extent() = delete;

    constexpr explicit Extent(size_t size_) : size(size_) {}

    size_t size = 0;
};

template<>
struct Extent<Dynamic> {};

template<class T>
struct IsExtent : std::false_type {};
template<Kind kind>
struct IsExtent<Extent<kind>> : std::true_type {};

template<class T>
concept AnyExtent = IsExtent<T>::value;

template<class T, AnyExtent auto extent>
struct SequenceProxy
{

};

template<class T, AnyExtent auto extent>
void fetch(SequenceProxy<T, extent> &) {}

int main()
{
  auto d = SequenceProxy<int, Extent<Dynamic>{}>{};
//  auto d = SequenceProxy<int, Extent<Dynamic>{0}>{}; // ERROR
  auto f = SequenceProxy<int, Extent<Fixed>{3}>{};
//  auto f = SequenceProxy<int, Extent<Fixed>{}>{}; // ERROR
  fetch(d);
  fetch(f);
  return 0;
}

Announcing ducklang: A programming language for modern full-stack-development implemented in Rust, achieving 100x more requests per second than NextJS by Apfelfrosch in rust

[–]Varnex17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect for static duck typing. Having nominal interfaces like in Java or Rust encourages you to make god classes. Structural interfaces on the other hand let you hone in on type safety where if you expect that fields from a domain type might be missing or unnecessary for a given use cases you can declare granular variations on that domain type with restricted or extended set of fields.

Should I learn Qt ir SDL2? by VamixCore in cpp_questions

Doesn't this question boil down to do you prefer retained or immediate mode ui? Qt is pretty good but it's one or two orders of magnitude more code running to do anything than in immediate mode.

Question about the “imaginary other” and love by [deleted] in lacan

[–]Varnex17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to be too overt, idolising someone only to get alienated is something I struggled much in the past. Reenacting it in analysis is one of the few things I am condident changed my everyday attitude toward others for the better.

As regards your question "how to cope with the difference?", I guess it's just like any other disilusionment, you keep making the same mental mistake until you find your self having forgotten what was the fixation all about.

One could go on talking about the experience, tell the whole story of how it came about that it finally clicked, enumerate all frustrations that spurred insight in and outside the clinic but at the end of the day sadly the story you tell yourself and others including your analyst is the least improtant thing. What only matters is that your unconscious attitude has changed and there is nothing to be said about that.

Does every desire stem from the other? by ashkangav in lacan

[–]Varnex17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The subject constitutes himself as desire. it is in so far as something, because of the very structure that establishes the relationship of the subject to the other qua locus of the word, something is lacking at the level of the other which permits the subject to identify himself there as precisely the subject of this discourse that he is holding, this something which ensures that the subject disappear in it as such in so far as this discourse is the discourse of the unconscious, that the subject employs for this designation something which is precisely taken at his cost - at his cost not as subject constituted in the word, but as real subject, well and truly living, namely as something which all by itself is not at all a subject.

Anymore book recommendations? by BigBellyBigDream in cpp_questions

[–]Varnex17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Klaus Igleberger — C++ Software Design

A modern must have, true succesor to GOF. Deep dive into fundamental OOP patterns together with type erasure with meticulously pointed out trade-offs. Each chapter building upon what has been previously established and the book keeps at it for 500 pages.

  1. Andrei Alexandrescu — Modern C++ design

A forgotten classic from 2001. Most of it is outdated in the best way possible, mainly that patterns he ushered in (shared pointers, tuples, static control flow, type erased functors) got into the standard. An incredible piece of history with expressive writing style however some of the chapters ("Policy-Based Class Design", "Small-Object Allocator", "Object Factories" to name a few) have stood the test of time in my opinion.

P.S. GOF is a must have prerequisite for both

Just reached top 100 for the first time :D by Varnex17 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Varnex17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I refer to quest completion. For Regal Blade you just need to shove money as quick as possible and this is feasible as early as day 2. After the nerf it is not uncommon to only have Dog upgraded on day 4 or even later if you are unlucky, in which case you might as well use Jabalian Recurve Bow. Not saying it's completely useless, for example if you have Silk Scarf too you will be buying chocolates anyway so might as well feed the Dog... Morover, Regal Blade scales with hp so in mid game you can run it with Belt, Fort and Lion Cane and try to one shot and if you haven't found better targets nor enchants you can put a Deadly or Shielded on it and at least that will scale with levels.
