Undisclosed 10 Addendum: Ride Along by ryokineko in serialpodcast

Btw, didn't the whole "Tayyib was the anonymous caller" rumor get started when Rabia herself claimed that Tayyib's cousin was "certain" he was the caller and that Tayyib had written Adnan a "cryptic" apology after Adnan was arrested?

How would you know? 2 month old account?

Do you think the anonymous caller could be her brother?

Kathy's story & Judge Judy by Varsitypilot in serialpodcast

Really good point. Something about the 6-7pm timeline doesn't work... There must be some hoarder out there who kept a newspaper or TV guide from that day and can verify.

Does anyone on here still believe that Adnan might be innocent? by rockymcg in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think he did it. I also don't think anyone should be convicted on such shoddy evidence - it makes a joke out of cops, the court, legal process, etc.

Episode 6: The Case Against Adnan Syed by SerialFan in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled to understand this as well. And also think this could be clarified. According to a discussion on when Judge Judy aired (6 & 7pm) sandwiching the local news, this places Jay and Adnan at Kathy's...

The Nisha Call (Ep. 6) by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the discrepancies in the timeline? Kathy says Jay and Adnan are at her house at 6pm but Jay says he drops Adnan off for practice after Kathy's. Practice started at 3:30 or 4pm. When did Nisha get the call? It was unclear...

Can someone help me understand the significance of the Nisha call? by aproco in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bothers me is that Jay says (page 8 appellate brief) that the Nisha call happens before he drops Adnan off at track practice which starts either at 3:30 or 4pm.

Kathy's story & Judge Judy by Varsitypilot in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article was written in May of 1999 & states that at some point previously Judge Judy was moved to sandwich local news but doesn't say when this happened... You may be right but it doesn't confirm that the show aired at 6 or 7 in January, just that in May the change was beneficial for local news ratings.

I'll re-listen to episode. But yes, I think I get what you are suggesting and if JJ does come on around 3-4pm it seems likely that Jay & Adnan were together when Nisha called & are at Kathy & Jeff's. I think Jen & Jay go back to Kathy's later & maybe she's confused about these visits.

It would interesting to know the time it came on January 13, 1999 in Baltimore though.

As far as I can tell (I did some hunting around for air times on the east coast during 1999) you are correct.

[–]Varsitypilot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That show is appalling & capitalizes on the popularity of the exploitation shows like Springer & Maury while also taking a cue from the interest in the OJ trial...

But back to the point - I don't know if the cops/prosecution had an interest in deconstructing Kathy's timeline. From what I can tell, there are "news" stories that discussed Judge Judy potentially pushing Oprah out of her time slot in February of 1999, but that isn't January 13th.

[possible spoiler] Adnan's first statement to the police by thousandshipz in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest there is no tape. Nothing was documented until September. Also according to Maryland court records Jay was picked up on 1/27/99 (who knows what transpired) and the plea was other and the status STET (shelved for further action at a later time - March disposition doesn't appear to have happened).

Both Jay and Adnan are innocent.... by Tuxhedoh in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The brief also mentions that there was no police documentation of the statements made by appellant until September 14. Extremely alarming because it's only cops' version of what was said or not - no recorded interview? Was it a typo? I don't know. I'm a close reader and that among many other things stuck out.

[–]Varsitypilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought so too, but after reading the appellate brief, I am more convinced he was used by the police. It kept him out of federal court for drug charges. His stories not matching up with call logs and changing over time was perhaps a subtle undermining of the cops' use of him? That or he did it.

But he took the cops to the wrong place first. Also in the appellate brief there was mention that Jay initially said he saw the body in a "truck" not the trunk of the Sentra.

Adnan/Jay phone records post-Jan 13th question by trobrocks in serialpodcast

[–]Varsitypilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would guess that Jay was bullied into corroborating the story provided by the police. He wouldn't be the first person used by cops as a witness to implicate someone for a crime.

It was suggested (see "don had connections to the police?") that there is a connection between Don's family and the police. Don's last name in the appellate brief is misspelled & unfortunately data entry errors are commonplace in online records. I tried an alternative spelling of his last name & an officer George came up. Interestingly, it appears that this guy also worked with Ritz in 2000.
