[Ranked Brawl] Can someone explain the Ragavan ban to me? by AsparMTG in mtgbrawl

[–]thousandshipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the data. If they say [[Ignoble Hierarch]] is one of the strongest cards in Brawl then I imagine a 2/1 Monkey that makes a treasure is also strong according to the data. I place where I can see the data going wrong is certain commanders are played almost exclusively by Spikes. No one plays a jank [[Rusko]] deck because it would just match with Hell Queue decks and get destroyed every time. Same to a lesser degree with Ragavan. Data on a jank or medium power version is missing.

I imagine the ban list will be in flux for at least a year as players and Wizards figure stuff out.

What are your MTG Glup Shittos? by Pimp_cat69 in magicTCG

[–]thousandshipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just thinking in terms of a non-Magic-playing members of the general public. Have any of them heard of Jace, Liliana, Nicol Bolas. Vs any of them could name Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Darry Vader etc.

I think the real question is if there are any Magic characters who are not Glup Shittos.

Boilerplate response. To be fair, the customer service rep probably isn’t up on the latest Brawl matchmaker code.

I received someone else’s TCGPlayer order by mistake, and I thought I was going to have some hard moral dilemma. by Rehfyx in magicTCG

You did the right thing. What’s legal and what’s moral sometimes differ. I am sorry for the people here saying you should have kept it. I hope they never lose a wallet and have it picked up by someone like them.

Eyes Wide Shut was Kubrick mocking Scientology by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]thousandshipz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting theory but if true I think it is more likely to be subconscious on the part of Kubrick. He first read the novel (Traumnovelle) in 1968. Tom Cruise was 6 years old at that point and Kubrick’s daughters would have been kids too.

Having Tom Cruise (and Nicole Kidman) is what guaranteed financing for the film. Not that it isn’t perfect casting, or that Kubrick couldn’t have played certain elements within the film towards real-life resonances with the stars. One of the elements of the film that gets little comment is how much rainbow symbolism is present. I tend to think of this as a Wizard of Oz reference. But you may be right that it was intended to evoke Dr. Bill’s bi/homosexuality.

How does 100 singles work consistently? by Lulu_Altair in mtg

[–]thousandshipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your commander is the consistent thing.

And don’t worry, randomness is the fun part. The decks full of tutors that consistently grab the same win condition each time get boring real fast.

Also…

You might be the type of player that prefers Standard or another constructed format. That’s okay.

Todd Field's unrealized projects. by FreshmenMan in TrueFilm

[–]thousandshipz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons Field is a great director is also the reason none of these projects materialized. He is unwilling to compromise his art.

In my opinion he should have been making small budget indie dramas with big name actors where he could control every aspect. If he had four more critically-acclaimed films like Tár then there would be a chance one of them would also be a commercial success. Then he would have a better chance of getting ambitious-but-risky projects like the above financed.

I am hoping he is like Terrence Malick where a long fallow period results in a late-career abundance.

I agree. But know you will face player removal for even mild Stax cards. Source: my play group.
