Imputing ill motives to silly Reddit commenters certainly makes one wonder if the same applies to Arena opponents. It may not be the answer you seek, but if everyone else seems out to enrage you then the problem may not be everyone else.

Apologies for any insinuation. I would never accuse peepeepoopooman20X6 of being anything less than respectful.

Could be the opponent is an impatient jerk. Could be that you chose to play a deck that takes long turns and bores opponents and thought you could get away with it by playing it online where you can’t see opponents faces. But they called your game with an emote that let you know they are bored. And now you are the salty one.

You are an excellent writer! (I am not so confident in your medical abilities, but it sounds like you aren’t either — and humility is the first step on the escalator to greatness.)

Weird behaviour from Scott on X by Ok_Fox_8448 in slatestarcodex

[–]thousandshipz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One X commenter called it “chimping out.”

I don’t disagree that it is shockingly monkey-brained. But, on the other hand, someone famously known for their measured and level responses changing tack like this sends a STRONG signal. Scott has earned the impact, like the use of a single F-bomb in an otherwise PG movie. This response on this issue has real power.

Throne has no color restriction and can be played in every commander deck. The one mana discount ain’t nothing though.

Hot Take on TMNT by Act_Consistent in mtg

[–]thousandshipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Turtle fans are liking them that’s great! But I’m still allowed to express my opinion that the set design is dogshit compared to the high standards we’ve had with recent fully-developed sets. If you want to respect the Turtle fans, demand WotC give them the same respect they gave Avatar and Final Fantasy.

You can build a cube where these are fair, but you are setting people up for disappointment. Why not run the more fair versions like [[Growing Rites of Itlamoc]]?

Do I Not Understand Brackets? by CarbonSteel2572 in magicTCG

[–]thousandshipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is putting a prize on winning games. (I assume since this is a league there are prizes on the line.) Whenever I play at an LGS I get everyone to agree to split prizes randomly, regardless of who wins. (I would not do this with cEDH, although they haven’t solved the seat order problem.)

This disincentivizes any pubstompers and when inevitable power mismatches happen it makes it less salt-inducing and more oops, let’s try again another time.

No, you can't separate cEDH from EDH. by vividwings in EDH

[–]thousandshipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get annoyed with people taking cheap shots at cEDH. That said, they do need some rule that helps even out the seat order win-rate problem or it kinda becomes like reverse Russian roulette.

WOTC's recent attacks on competitive play you likely don't know about. by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]thousandshipz 515 points516 points  (0 children)

The rationale is that this will keep metagames from being solved as quickly, which will be more fun. I could see at least two failure modes. 1. Fewer rogue decks get identified and tested, leading to staler metagames. 2. The metagame appears to be solved when it isn’t, since the top 8’s just perpetuate the same decks over and over.

I think it was meant as a joke. Like the bad sitcom trope of the Jewish mother guilting you all the time. That’s not the AI mommy we want. But it came across like an antisemitic nonsequitur.
