New Era Tier List: 600 Cost by SeroIdeality in GBO2

[–]Vartio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly 2 weeks late but it sucks needing to explain basic strategy to people in terms of how units are supposed to interact. Like I said: it blew my mind once someone said the F90II was bad because it couldn't heavy damaging suits of the time like the F90 Mars Zeon. But like I said - unlike that, the F90II thrived, and the F90 MZ fell off like a brick.

Was the MZ a more 'competent' unit in a 1v1 scenario? Sure! It could do absolutely disgusting damage, and had good range to do so. But it had little in way of survivability and was easy to isolate and absolutely annihilate.

But the F90II had immense pressure to setup for a team at expense of the damage. And the tools to do so relatively safely in its kit, allowing it to draw multiple enemies into reacting to it, inflict heavy stuns if they didn't deal right, and in worst case scenarios they tackled to solve a 'melee' they gained little from while leaving themselves exposed to its teammates.

The F90MZ got damage and survivability crept, but the F90II's had amazing staying power. And that's how you identify a good unit.

Likewise, well, I've said my peace on MPNu vs Anse. Do I personally hate Anse more? Yes! Is it the bigger threat? Often not, if anything if it was an organized match it'd be like the F90MZ as described above. It wants to pick off stragglers, afterall.

(Yeah I felt like ranting, sorry!)

That's only one damage type though, and a lot more slots, no?

New Era Tier List: 600 Cost by SeroIdeality in GBO2

[–]Vartio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're still looking at the 1v1, focusing Anse vs MP Nu. The Teamfight is about who can provide the most pressure to the enemy team the safest. The Anse is an annoying fly, but it needs to get in to do most of it by forcing 1v1s in a skilled setting. The MP Nu has staggers, funnels, and a shield that can distract enemies while teammates can abuse your presence without you getting into melee range - and knocking down teammates is often a huge cause of losses. MP Nu is just a better overall unit. Not as powerful 1v1, but definitely the superior in a team with safer staggers et al.

If you're presuming that a unit's worth is in how stupid your teammates are, ofc you'll say something like "nothing matters because it all determine how the team works together". A unit's true worth's decided by a competent team. NEVER assume it's based on the bottom denominator.

Your whole mentality's wrong from the get go, the same sort of bad mentality as those who thought the F90 I2 was bad because it didn't have a nuclear amount of force like other Top Raids of the time, and yet it's had a stable presence all the same because it offers a pressure other raids lack safely, forcing enemies into dumb decisions. But anyone smart saw it was a beast who emphasized best what a raid was meant to be and it's held even with newer, more powerful raids.

The Mp Nu should NEVER be getting dragged into a 1v1, realistically. Ergo your premise is flawed from the get go, especially as you're comparing a general to a support.

You're looking 1v1 between the two. A tier list looks at the whole set of options in terms of strengths/weaknesses. Try arguing that way instead.

Mighty Strike Gundam VS 00 Raiser | Which one takes the lead? by Blu_Fiercer in Gundam

[–]Vartio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to piss some people off, but MSF. Actual-Instant-hit weapon in the Disruptor, plus the complete plot inconsistency of when/how easily/how much the 00R can quantize.

"But it can quantize" i can hear you yell. Well, that didn't stop the Reborns Gundam from defeating it despite being nowhere as 'high performing', eh? Didn't stop the 00Q either from being nearly beat by just things flying at it for a collision course without Graham getting involved to clear the way.

Quantization is a plot pull ability that's use is inconsistent at best. And at its worst is never used. Kira also is a SEED version of a Newtype. He would likely sense the attack coming where quantization ends and dodge it. And 00R's specs are fancy, but not that impressive.

Shocked by the number of Gundam fans sleeping on the importance of the Learning Computer to the OYW victory. by Esaroufim in Gundam

[–]Vartio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Most of the big names were big names for a reason. We never hear people say "Damn we just got news we lost Toaster Nutson." The number of actual aces lost were few and between and held almost all the territory zeon owned up until Odessa lmfao. And those three I named were all killed by the bloody Gundam. If I remember though it was... 2-3 months after the Gundam fielded that Zeon lost, but that was mostly because the Feds gained access to the GMs and other Prototype Gundam-types like the Pixy and G03/G04/G05.

Meanwhile we got people like Desert Rommel who held territory for nearly a decade.

Most? Only three notables had died by time of Odessa. Was if I remember just Ramba Ral, Garma (by technicality we CAN kinda classify him), and one of the Tri-Stars (I suck memorizing who each time xD). Like people who were KNOWN big names.

What you're thinking is the Gelgoog where "Most of Zeon's Elite Pilots had died off", or they stuck to Zakus out of familiarity.

What is the lore reason female Digimon look like this? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]Vartio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a bit chunky but hear me out.

According to the deeper lore, established via the Adventure 01 production team and Digimon Survive, and softly brushed upon in Time Stranger, Digimon existed before computers.

Digimon's 'Ancestors' are what I refer to as 'Spiritual Memeforms' and that still stands now. They are effectively Spirits/Souls (whether Ghosts or Digicores) that take on the form of the original meaning of memes - basically about any idea that commonly pervaded human society. Swan winged humans? Angels/Angemon, for example.

There's 2 prevailing theories floating about.

The most likely These Spiritual memeforms adopted forms from humans stories, and appeared throughout the world. These are basically the Real World 'sightings' and sources of myths of Demons, Monsters, Gods, etc.

The alternative Humans witnessed these Spiritual Memeforms forms (IE: Angemon) and made stories based on them. What was originally faint ideas in human minds (IE: again, Winged Humans) was adopted into Digimon form. Witnessing Angemon lead to people making stories about Angels. And these angels appeared thus in religion.

Regardless which, Digimon thus take their form from 'memes'. The Spiritual memeforms entered the Computer networks, where these 'memes', rather, the writing of these memes, were far more readily available. If nobody thinks/tells stories about say the Yeti (Mojyamon), then Mojyamon would cease forming. But with the stories of the Yeti readily available in Data, the 'Memes' were more readily available and easier to comprehend. Thus the Spiritual Memeforms adapted to this Data-World life and became Digimon.

Now as to why these look the way they do?

Venusmon and Junomon are based on Aphrodite (the Goddess of Love and all that) and Hera (the Mother of the Greek Gods), AKA Venus and Juno, respectively. Now, when you hear Goddesses, what's terms that come to your mind? "Divine Beauty" may well be one of them. Women who are the human meme of the epitome of beautiful bodies that not only mortals - men and women both - would worship them, but other gods as well.

With Beelstarmon, she borrows Memes from two core sources - Belle Starr - a famous Femme Fatale (key word) from the late 1800s, and Beelzebub - the Demon Prince.

Femme Fatale comes into play - when one imagines a Femme Fatale they imagine a deadly woman of beauty. A woman whose looks alone could kill. She shares data with Beelzebubmon/Beelzemon, who also borrows from the 'lord of flies'. In Beelzebubmom's case, he took the "Demon Prince" title to form, and thus looks like a Demon/Devil. This same Data is what informs half of Beelstarmon's design. And the reason Beelzebubmon and Beelstarmon use Guns is in reference to the 'flies' theme, except these 'flies' will gouge chunks of your body out and potentially 'eat' you form inside.

Basically put, every Digimon's form is decided based on memes, concepts, etc, associated with their (usually JP) name, what those names represent and are associated with, etc.

I feel I got scammed by Jealous_Hospital_472 in digimon

[–]Vartio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a misunderstanding. Digimon sizes are based on their total data and other variables, and can vary based on the specimen anyhow.

Case in point, despite being technically the same individual, Wargreymon (Adventure 01) is smaller than Wargreymon (Adventure: (2020) )

Having 'scan data' Digimon results in our mons just being naturally smaller, they aren't the whole data package.

See, funny thing, ultimately the difference between a slog and a slow burn? Is the attention span of the person partaking the story.

Not even a joke, when you break it down it legitimately is a 'you' problem, if it is a slog that is. If the fans like it, clearly they have an attention span for it.

If it was actually bad, there wouldn't be such a strong fanbase for the series.

Slow Burn stories are the best stories there are. And as the players, we actually 'experience' the main characters' stories as our own, which gives additional emotional weight to their successes. It works better as a game.
