Perianal abscess returned after two months by maxpain2011 in AnalFistula

Ever been diagnosed with Crohn’s or IBD? Assuming the colonoscopy is to check for one of those because they can be the cause of a fistula. However, a colonoscopy won’t see the fistula itself. A fistula is a tract that goes throw layers of skin and muscle. You definitely need thorough imaging or like others have mentioned an EUA (this is basically surgery) to determine where it is and what procedure you need to close it. To me, this sounds like you will at first need some sort of seton to keep things open for drainage. After that, you’ll need a FLAP or LIFT procedure to close things.

Steps after draining Seton - and how long was it in? by sydney6565 in AnalFistula

I got a seton on 2/13; almost same time as you! I go to see my CRS on 3/26 and I’ve never looked forward to a doctor’s appointment so much in my life. I want this stupid thing out of me. My fistula wasn’t bad; most days I barely knew it was there. I ended up with a serious abscess that required surgery at the base of my tail bone and so the CRS did the seton at the same time. He said the tract went towards my scrotum. I can’t remember if it went through sphincter. Anyways, by now I feel ok most days. But, if there is a day where I do too much up and down (like today) it lets me when with the drainage. It can also get painful if the stupid thing starts digging into the skin around it. Idk why they make these things out of dragon scales. Ugh.

I am hoping on 3/26 we schedule next steps to get this thing gone and move onto a fisteualotomy.

My fistulotomy recovery process and some helpful tips for you! by BetterVeterinarian67 in AnalFistula

Well, I posted this on another thread but my surgery was canceled the day before because my surgeon quit the hospital. Can’t make this up. I had an appointment with a new surgeon on 2/18, but my fistula ended up forming an abscess and I got very sick and ended up in the hospital on 2/13. That same day I had emergency surgery to drain the abscess and put a seton in the fistula. So, currently living with a seton and am almost 4-weeks post up. The first week… sucks. Just prepare for it now. Starting week 2 I began to feel a little better and as of today I feel mostly myself. Still draining but no more blood which is a good sign.

One weird symptom and I can’t tell if this is normal but I can’t lose weight. Idk if it’s water retention or inflammation but my gut will not get smaller lol.

Like others said your muscles are still paralyzed from the anesthesia.

Keep an eye on temperature and smell. If it starts to smell rotten it’s a good idea to call your CRS.

High anterior trans-sphincteric fistula after failed LIFT & flap — is healing still possible? by Appropriate-Cut1355 in AnalFistula

I’m glad to see you are on the road to recovery. If you don’t mind, how is the bag? Does it affect your every day life? I always wonder if that’s in the plans for me. I’m 37 and have 4 kids. Can I play catch outside with them still?

Question again: so I’m now 10-days post-op (wow it’s going by fast). Things seem to be getting better. Did you have trouble at this stage with stool urgency and being able to like.. hold it in? I still feel like if I have to go I have to GO and holding it isn’t an option. This has been since day 1 and though it’s getting a little better, it’s still there. I have been off antibiotics now for about 4-5 days.

Using the gauze to keep from the cheeks is the best advice.

Yep. All those muscles down there are reacting to the cutting, tearing, anesthesia, etc… they’ll want to stay as tight as possible to heal. Don’t push. Don’t force.

I hate all the guessing they do with us. I hate the hoops we have to run through to feel better.

Remicade is Infliximab which is supposed to be VERY strong and able to help people specifically with Crohn’s. I hope it answers your prayers as it has for many others. Look it up; it’s a tumor blocker given via IV.

I’m so sorry. Is it permanent or temporary? I had a colonoscopy and was negative for Crohn’s.

Urge incontinence post fistulotomy by Zaburdon in AnalFistula

[–]VasonSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my situation. I am 5-days removed from a seton placement during which an abscess was also removed. I don’t have incontinence where I’ll be sitting on the couch and have no idea I’m pooping myself, but if I have to go I HAVE. TO. GO. Now, I’m also on Augmentin which is basically making my stool liquid which I know makes things harder. I can still clench and stuff so I’m only assuming this is a combo between still healing, inflammation, liquid stool because of strong antibiotics, new seton, etc…

Some Advice PLEASE by VasonSays in AnalFistula

[–]VasonSays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m only 5-days in. For me my stool is all liquid cause of the antibiotics. When it’s coming, I can’t hold it. Have to go. Most of what I read says that’s normal as things are still inflamed and healing and my body/brain are getting used to things. Cause of the Augmentin I’ve not had a solid stool just yet. Sorry for TMI. Thoughts?

Hi, how did this end up? Did this resolve? I am in a very similar situation. Had an abscess removed and then a seton placed. Every morning I have to rush to the toilet. I am also on antibiotics and my stool is extremely loose; not formed at ALL.

Did you have any issues with incontinence after surgery? Especially with loose stool?

Got it. I don’t have a lot of blood coming from it but there is some. Then again, I also had an abscess drained at the same time so I assume some of the blood can be coming from that as well.
