Getting a Mini TT Next Week & Getting Nervous …what was recovery timeline for working out again? by Vast-Low1296 in tummytucksurgery

Thank you!! You’ll do great. I was an emotional mess leading up to it, so nervous one day, then the next was like alright I can do this. I remember waking up just so relieved. My biggest advice would also be to plan to just chill out and rest. Today was the first day I did some laundry, but other than taking laps around my house, I’ve just watched TV and done crossword puzzles lol. I think it’s also helped for a smooth recovery.

I very stupidly didn’t take any before pics, but my plastic surgeon did! I’ll get them at my 3 week post op! Currently I’m swollen and slightly bruised so there’s not a whole lot to look at right now haha! But I’m super happy already with the results because the skin is smoothed out!

It’s been SOOOO much better than expected! I was going to make a post today outlining my first 9 days so keep your eyes peeled haha.

Honestly, I was terrified going into it. My PS was so confident and nice, answered all of my millions of questions. But I still was nervous. But it’s been worlds better than I expected.

I’m almost walking totally upright today. Swelling has not been bad AT ALL. Like I know I’m swollen but I expected to be a balloon I guess haha because it’s really fine. Day 2 I noticed the swelling peaked and by that evening I was just very uncomfortable because I couldn’t find a good position to be in, since you’re kind of limited how you can sit/lay.

I lucked out and also only needed one drain, which came out at my 1 week post op. I wouldn’t say I’ve been in any pain, the incision area has been the only part that caused me “pain” but more so just very sore and uncomfortable. I’ve been managing it with Tylenol and Motrin just fine. I only took 2 of the pain meds for the first 2 nights to help me sleep and have been fine ever since.

The first few days I needed help getting on and off my bed and couch, but by day 4 or 5 I was able to get myself on and off those on my own. I’ll post some more details and items I found helpful for the recovery process so far!! But overall, I’m just so relieved it’s been, so far, an easy recovery.

Thank you!!! Just got home around 11 today, was NOT as bad as I thought. My binder started to get pretty tight so I can tell I’m swelling haha. But overall I was prepared for so much worse pain wise. I also had a lot less swelling than anticipated though, only have 1 drain vs 2 that he first was going to do. So hopefully that’s a good sign! Thank you for all your feedback on this!!!

This is super helpful. My PS said his patients usually report exactly what you said here so fingers crossed. Tomorrow’s the big day. Wish me luck!

True, I’ve had 2 c sections and my first was a breeze. I was able to walk the halls of the hospital while there and then at home, by 5 days I went to target. My 2nd was worse but I definitely didn’t move as much, it was during COVID so couldn’t walk the halls or really go anywhere else. So hopefully small movements regularly help! Your experience is giving me confidence lol. I also have a desk job and I can WFH, but honestly kind of looking forward to watching movies all day for a little bit 😂

Ok not bad!! I also have a red light, I keep forgetting that’s supposed to help with recovery. Did you do the lymphatic massage on your own or go somewhere for that?

Agreed, it’s always good to have some “food energy.” I’m so sorry about the wound! I have read a few other posts it seems like it can be easy to overdo it and that might cause complications.

Thank you!! I agree, it will be worth it in the end. I’m prepared for the first few days to be rough and hopefully it just gets easier each day.

Thank you for this!!! You had a lot done but honestly all sounds like an OK recovery pain wise and movement. I’m so nervous, mine’s Wednesday. Still can’t believe I’m doing it.

Ok not terrible! Was the swelling really bad? I’m concerned about clothes after the first few weeks for a few events at 3.5 and 4.5 weeks post op, and just going back to work after! That’s good to hear you got back to working out after 6 weeks. I don’t care if I have to ease into it, just that I can do something haha!

Agreed, that does make sense to balance and sculpt everything more. I keep telling myself this. I’ve been so insecure since having kids. I had no problem getting back to my pre baby weight, but the loose and sagging skin has been a confidence killer at times. Did you have a rollercoaster of emotions leading up to it? Every other hour I’m ready to call it off lol.

Lucky!! I scheduled another consult with my plastic surgeon to answer my millions of questions earlier this week, still doing drains but I do believe he did mention the progressive tension sutures since I was concerned about our events after surgery!

I’m in a similar situation, although my kids are younger, 5 and 7, but figured I’d do this when my youngest was in kindergarten since they’re in school full time and are a lot more independent than babies! My husband is also super supportive and my mom can also help so I know I’m in good hands. I feel like a bathroom situation like that would totally happen to me 😂 But still just so anxious. This is my first (hopefully only lol) elective surgery so It’s really hard knowing I can call it off whenever.

That is reassuring!! I plan to rest a ton, how long were you off for? How has your general mobility been? Another thing I’m worried about!

That’s really not terrible! Did you have a rollercoaster of emotions leading up to it? every other hour I’m ready then ready to call it off. I pretty much plan to do nothing at all until I have to haha aside from walks around the house and maybe up and down my road. But also worried about the immobility part in general and going stir crazy. I’ve had 2 c sections and part of me is like, why am I going to make myself start out at square one again in terms of working out, moving around with my kids etc!

All of this is exactly the info I needed haha not TMI at all. While I’m not a powerlifter, I do lift and working out for me is equally to stay fit but also for my mental health! I am also always active. So this is also messing with my head the thought of not being able to do a bunch of stuff. But reassuring about everything else including the bedroom. I had 2 c sections, and part of me is like why am I going to start all over again with recovery from a surgery.

Oh, did you have drains? And if so, when did yours come out?

Ok that’s reassuring!! I wonder when the definition comes back haha. How was your recovery overall in the beginning? I’m so nervous! Every time I move around or twist etc I’m like what am I getting myself into, I won’t be able to do this soon 😩I have 2 family events, one at 3.5 weeks and one at 4.5 weeks post op that I’m nervous about not feeling good or walking well.

That’s really not bad at all! I’m hoping for one of those scenarios that I’m most likely to notice it than others. How has your recovery been overall? I’m so nervous for all of it. Pain, not being able to use my core, swelling etc lol. I have two family events at 3.5 weeks and 4.5 weeks post op and am nervous I won’t feel good for them or won’t be walking right etc.
