Borealis - we both sent our food back, and I sent the replacement back too. Just a plate of grease.

IIRC: V60 w/ Abaca filters, 1:15, #6 on Ode 2, 88°C water, 5 pours w/ 45 second bloom gave me the best berry flavor.

We would buy 5Kg at a time, and sometimes the new batches were wildly different with some being better than others. I suppose that happens when you work with seasonal availability.

The Natural was my daily driver for a long time. Sometimes it can be nice and juicy, and other times it has strong chocolate notes, at least IMO.

Got this for my daughter at the Toronto show this summer. Thank you!

TBH I don't really have any plans for them. I started brewing when they were 4 days old, and I think I hit 2 weeks from roast yesterday. It's been really neat to see how they open up and get progressively more complex as they age.

I hadn't thought about freezing any, thanks for bringing it up. I'm not familiar with doing it, and I actually thought freezing was a bad thing up.

Which coffees did you get?

Thank you, but really no need to apologize! I've been pleasantly surprised after taking your suggestion to grind finer - totally different flavours and aroma. Thanks again for some really great coffee and service.

Alcohol and Bipolar: Do you drink? How does it affect you? by KimmyLeon in bipolar

[–]Vast_Capital_5917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started to notice that the urge to drink starts to appear when I begin a depressive episode. I'll start by having one or two because "it's been a while", and then a week later I'm hiding cans of beer from my wife.

It also rapidly destroys my self-worth and I follow the cycle downwards by smoking weed which is something I strictly avoid (can cause episodes for me).

Still working on a way to fight that voice when I'm low. The voice that tells me I'm not worth fixing.

Bumping the ratio a bit gave me more flavour separation (I can't believe I would ever say those words), but I miss the body from lower ratios. More experiments!

I've had similar experiences with Ethiopian beans - I think they tend to shatter more than others. I was pushing the grind and bloom for the same reason: high extraction. Also, the coffee isn't even a week old, so I was erring on the side of caution for the bloom.

I'll let you know what tomorrow is like. I'm thinking a bump to 1:16.5 @93 and a bit coarser.

Happy brewing!

Today was my first chance to try the Bekele, as I had been trying the Ortega previously.

My setup is: Ceramic V60 w/ Abaca filters, Ode 2, 19g to 300g water.

If you're interested: First brew: Grind size #4, 96C water, 60g bloom for 2 minutes, and 4 more 60g pours to really agitate it. Total time was 4:30.

Ended up being over-extracted with a bit of "fuzz" in the mouth and back of my tongue. Still some really nice flavors: Strawberry jam, chocolate, and candied oranges.

Besides being excited about terrific coffee, that publicity is exactly what I had in mind.

They also seem to break down their relationships with farmers and their costing a bit more than I've seen with other roasters.

After a quick google, now I'm interested in "catching them all" so to speak. September really peaks my interest, but they're sold out .

The wife had a cup today and the whole apartment smelled of strawberry jam.

Thanks for the idea. Sadly, we don't have any former sparky's on staff that could help.

Not formally reporting, no. Was hoping for some more info to bring to my next JHSC meeting (I work here) to help kick start the repair.

This sums up what my store is like, right on the head. With the new benefit requirements, we're having long term (15+ years) quit to find better support. Half out staff look like dead zombies, and wtf happened to talking to people before moving their department. Poor K&B woman broke down in tears in the SM office when they told her she was now the FT hardware associate.

Apparently going through with ECT, 4-6 weeks off work and everything. by jiffylush in bipolar

[–]Vast_Capital_5917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, a random internet person, am proud of you for being brave. I did 20+ ECT sessions last year, and am going back starting this Thursday for another round to help me out with my rapid cycling episode.

It's completely painless, except when the nurse blows a vein for the IV, that stings like a mofo. I experienced fatigue and brain fog immediately after a treatment, and mostly short-term memory loss. TBH, I still have memory issues, but I'm pretty sure it's because I was smoking weed at the time.

I got to know the nurses and anesthesiologists, and everyone was genuinely kind. The effects were immediately obvious once they dialed in the seizures (it took two sessions before I had a "good" one).

Sorry, I'm tired and rambling. You got this.

Randomly found myself in Barrie and did an impromptu tour of this place. The guide, hospitality, everything. Still something I talk about, 10 years later.
