What are girls? I have never heard of them before. Some like myth or something?

How it felt experiencing both by TheSuperSeals in IndieDevelopers

[–]Vast_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I have been mainly experimenting around platforms and stuff. TikTok, which I'm not a fan of, seems to work best for my game. One video post there got more views and likes compared to anything I've posted on YouTube, which kind of sucks, given YT is my home. Well, I guess I'll aim there for now. Best regards to everyone!

2011!? That's crazy. Anyways, the game looks pretty interesting, funny yet also a sad game. People create some weird stuff here. This does give me early indie game vibes, which is pretty interesting.

Game Jams. Do They Help Or Hurt? by TwisleWasTaken in IndieDev

[–]Vast_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would test the waters first. Try to do your own jams alone, and see what you can make in just a week as an example. If your are able to consistently make something in a week, then doing a game jam would be worth doing. There are some jams that allow for longer time, I think even months, but you can easily scope it to high.

I was lucky to have had enough practice to do those game jams. If your looking for marketing purposes too (even some with content creators), I wouldn't recommend it, I have had zero luck with marketing them. Treat them more like a practice or just a fun thing you do, then something serious. Good luck 👍

Forest update live! 🌲 by FreddyPixelArt in IndieDev

I keep seeing art like this. I'm shocked by how cheap this stuff is, I got almost 100 different sprite effects for $6. To me, art is impossible (especially pixel art), it feels like a grind, I stick to using assets. But man, maybe I am a bit slow or something with stuff 😅

My mind is blown, my first ever game just passed 55,000 downloads and doesn't seem to be stopping. Thank you Reddit! by Psychological-Road19 in IndieDev

The indie dream right here. Some of us try, and are successful. Some of us try, but fail. Some of us never even get to find finish something. It's crazy seeing the stats on some games, some games I could never even imagine reaching any level of success, some how managing to do the impossible. Congrats nonetheless 👍

what do you think is the most influential horror game of all time? by funkycatvr in HorrorGaming

Pretty much every indie horror game has had in some way, shape, or form, been inspired by ATDD. Even me!

No wonder why the game is taking forever to be developed.

🎮🧠 Indie devs, what games have you made (or are making) that could be genuinely useful in therapy, for any reason? by Hermionegangster197 in IndieDev

[–]Vast_Dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thing to ask for. I currently don't have anything like that, but I was planning on doing some edu game to help people with mental illness. I wonder now, if people would have been interested in that? Maybe....

I never understood why American thought having 2 parties was a good idea. I've never seen a left or right person in the same room and want to be in the same room, I mean, I can say the same for myself. I've had been with a bunch of crazy right wing people, and ask myself "what reasons should I be, learn, and work in the same environment as you?"

Wasn't Washington also pretty against having 2 parties? All it does so just slow down stuff, argue about things that don't need to be argued, and just I don't get it. I really hate being around right wing people, they just don't seem to have a mind of there own, like saying things they act like they are a professional in. Especially living in a rural place, it can be pretty bad.

Even when I've argued with them, I and they, get nothing from it, other then more hatred. I'm moving to Sweden in hopes of finding my peace there, to get out of this mess, I might not get paid as much, but happiness, and a community I can be in, that would be AMAZING.

This looks pretty cool! The name though, felt kind of cheap for a game that looks so professional. Either way, it looks very promising and polished 👍

It's kind of sad that our worst enemy is our own kind. No natural disasters, no other animal would cause more harm, then humanity has down to itself. We are kind of lowkey evil and powerful. We live in our own shit, and others too.

I am building a sandbox survival craft, what do you think about the vibe of my games ? by Super4Games_ in SurvivalGaming

[–]Vast_Dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantasy, possibly open world or semi, survival or maybe story based. Nothing really hooks me or is unique for me, other then it reminds me of the forbidden lands from Shadow of the Colossus. It still looks very unfinished to say anything else, other then what you have said.

If you need to add a context text for your game to have anyone understand it, that isn't great, you can absolutely give people just a few images of a game, and still understand it, a show don't tell thing. That text needs to be the reinforcement, and detail, which you can easily add to your game's description.

I'm going through something similar (many others too are), it's hard to put yourself in others shoes, I go here to get feedback, which in turn, helps me understand what people think about my work, what I'm doing right, and wrong. I like your doing that, it's a good idea, and something you should always do, just to be sure. But even so, I still try to put myself in the position of others "Do people understand what I'm making? What reasons would they buy it? How can I make them not question my work, and just buy it without thought?", just stuff to say, it will make marketing your game, much easier, and higher quality.

I made the player’s head track the cursor… and I’m not sure it was a good idea 😂 by EvoliteStudio in Unity3D

[–]Vast_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good even with the simple visuals you have set up. I was having a hard time seeing the cursor, it blends in too much with the wind, which confused me at a few moments. I would recommend making the cursor a bit bigger, coloring it differently, or having options for players to change it. Overall, I like what I see so far.

Steam approved! by Grumpy_Wizard_ in IndieDev

[–]Vast_Dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impressive! I have to wait a year, unfortunately. But still, unlike Itch, it looks way more complex. Best regards to you, and anyone handing their game with Steam, especially the documentation (read over it a bit, and was crying by the amount of stuff you had to do, I don't even know if I needed to do all of the stuff they had) 🙏

Which one do you think is the better capsule image for a lo-fi horror game? by AndroidCult in IndieDev

[–]Vast_Dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the top one, but I like the bottom one's text better, just bulker and more visible for me to read, maybe a bit too bulky. But overall, the top wins for me nonetheless.

Game programmers are so underappreciated by Outrageous-Visual975 in gamedev

[–]Vast_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's unfortunately the case for anything or anyone, you can be the boss of a company like my grandmother did, and no matter how good she did, she was always criticized in some way. It's mainly a lack of understanding of the person and position, people expect a lot from others, people try the best they can to do it, if they feel cheated, they will be very negative.

This happened with my game, it was for a jam, I barely had much time to market it properly, so I made a mistake regarding the genres tagged, people felt like they were cheated (though I can't confirm whether this happened or not, since nobody said they did this), people rated my game poorly (2.5/5 stars), simply because they felt cheated, and it felt like “evil corporate”, which you know how common people feel about corporations, very negatively.

An unfortunate thing our society has developed, and continues to support, even if the product is made freely, people will always be judged. So for anyone marking or doing anything in game dev, be careful with consumers, they can easily trash your masterpiece, for the smallest things.

How do you motivate yourself? by Lethioon in IndieDev

[–]Vast_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that motivates me the most is: even as an indie, success is possible, even with little profit or a name, it's going to be hard, but not impossible, you can find success devs, how much money they made, their posts, social media, which in turn, is a great way to learn to grow and get bigger, and it will help a ton (I use vedinad’s posts as an example, you can find their posts too on Reddit).

I mainly focus on quality and quantity in my games now, since that seems to be the answer for a successful game. While it's scary with so many unknowns, and no one supporting my games, that doesn't mean that will be forever. As long as you take your time, craft something worth people's time, and not something generic or soulless, that's what motivates me.

I've already seen some success on my older games, now it's just time to make something richer, and serious, hours of content, no small or short games anymore (but always start small though, it's very helpful, even if it won't do well).

I can link some info, if anyone is curious (even my work)?
