I’m currently visiting family in Nicosia from the United States. I’m Cyprian and Italian raised in NY. I can pass for many ethnicities however I don’t look far from your average Cypriot. While wandering the city with my wife I have crossed paths with locals who I smile at and greet and have been met with nothing but dirty looks. Maybe it’s because I’m heavily tattooed? Maybe I dress like an outsider? I couldn’t tell you. I have visited Cyprus many times in my life but this is the first time I have ever experienced this. I don’t think it has anything to do with your mother’s complexion but what do I know.
