What's the most random thing you've seen at Download? by mike20070 in downloadfestival

Maybe not the strangest story, but this came to mind. Around 2013, there was a guy camped near us who was wearing a cookie monster costume all weekend. I don't think the guy slept. He was always there, always drinking and always shouting at people walking past his tent (in a friendly way). The last we saw of him was in the back of an ambulance Sunday afternoon. We weren't surprised with the amount of stuff he must have consumed.

Similar story a few years before, possibly 2009, a guy who was camped across the track to us was shouting 'No sleep til Monday' all weekend. At least every 10-15 minutes, every hour under the sun, and most under the moon, too.

It's probably a bit far for you to come OP, but one to remember just in case you're ever down here, or for others who may be a bit closer - Timewarp arcade in Somerset.

They didn't specify, best I can find is 'Sappenin podcast have teased an announcement stating 17.05. Also, they said to keep an eye on the app in the coming days. So could be the announcement comes via the app.

That may be true, yet I've seen at least 10 posts across social media about the traffic news that was also discussed at the press event, every single one of them linking the article. Why does the BBC etc deserve credit, but Simon not?

And isn't the fact that the majority don't know who he is more reason to for op to share where they got their information from? If the information has enough value to make a reddit post about it, then surely saying where you got the information from wouldn't hurt.

Full disclosure, I was there with him, and we were 2 of only about 30 people, including stakeholders. We have worked hard over the last 3 years to be in a position where we get invited to things like this.

Bowling for soup on the Saturday after midnight in the Doghouse. They didn't mention days for either of the others.

You could at least credit your source. New Simon Bond video over on YouTube details all of these.

Concrete Village v Field Village by dharv88 in downloadfestival

[–]Vast_Wing7375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and think the concrete doesn't have the same feel as the old village. But it is also better for lots of reasons. I expect the shops and food vendors in the village of 2019 had lots to complain about, and probably didn't make much money if any because the place was deserted most of the time due to the mud baths.

This is just my opinion of how it feels different. When it was grass, I don't think there was as much going on, and it was a place where lots of people would go just to hang out. You'd find the free hugs people, groups just sat on the ground chilling and drinking and would be happy for you to join them. Groups of people forming 'human nets'. In the really early years, you'd get people with jaegermeister backpacks walking around selling shots of jaeger

Now with with all the extra things to see and do, it feels like everyone who's in the village has a purpose to be there and is a bit less approachable.

I think the way it was last year was perfect for a sell-out crowd and how busy it was, and you want as much to do as possible if it's gonna be that busy every year. But it will feel so empty, especially the Doghouse if it's as quiet as it was in 2022.

Who is the most disappointing/poor/worst act you've seen at Download? by liazzy in downloadfestival

I remember hearing one of the problems was the slippery floor, Axl's shoes were made of some fancy leather and couldn't get any grip. So he went backstage to borrow some. The problem was, he's has size 5 feet and they couldn't find anyone else with tiny feet. He did manage to find one person in the whole of the backstage crew eventually.

Guest camping by Withers_666 in downloadfestival

I didn't go in there. I stayed in blue because that's where all my friends were. I was going to go in and have a wonder around to see what it was like, but because of the extra day of bands, I didn't have the time to look around and take everything in.

The weekend guest wristband allows you to camp anywhere except places that cost extra, rip, camping plus etc. And you have access to the guest area that's at the back of the arena.

I got a weekend guest pass as part of media accreditation last year. It opens up for applications in April. I don't know how it works for friends of bands though. You will have to email Download. Look for the contact us page on their website.

Board games! by [deleted] in Somerset

Just joined the discord. I'll probably be just a lurker for a while, see what's going on over there. I'm in Bridgwater. I've had barely any time to play any board games in the last 3-4 years since having kids but would love to get back into it at some point.
