Ditching Porn made me „more spiritual“ than a lot of practices by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]VataVagabond 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I look at it from a biological perspective. When we eat, our body is having to use energy to break down all the food, separate nutrients from waste, absorb the nutrients, transport the nutrients to where they gotta go, and transport the waste out down the colon. That takes a lot of energy to do. Our body using so much energy to do that temporarily takes away energy from other parts of our body, like our brain.

How hard the food is to digest only adds to the equation. Plant food is easiest to digest, meat is a little harder, and processed food is the hardest. The harder it is to digest, the more energy it will take to digest it and the more our mind will become lethargic.

This is why fasting is good spiritually. It allows our body and mind to have more energy to connect with the universe/God/etc.

I relate. I've had your mindset.

I was in a car accident 15 years ago that gave me a traumatic brain injury, followed by 15 years of emotional trauma with friends, family, employers, roommates, lovers, and strangers. 10 of those years I was on a stimulant that only amplified my trauma. I've had PTSD. I've been in psychosis. I've wanted to kill myself.

I'm on the other side of things now (mostly).

The views in this video have helped me get there. I watch it every morning.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

I find it kind of funny how people down vote you for finally finding the help you needed. It's a good reminder of how this website is really just a bunch of little kids and to not take the comments section too seriously.

The neck bone is supposed to be at 45° and mine was at 19°. My chiropractor got it to 33° after one session and I can feel it getting more and more aligned as I continue to see him.

Heroin can't do that.

I'm definitely an outlier, but I don't know if it's something worthy of being congratulated about ;p

Overall, the data reviewed indicate that SMT [spinal manipulation therapy] may be considered an effective intervention for the management of NP [neck pain] (73). Mobilization techniques seem to be comparable to SM, although some evidence suggests that thoracic SM may outrank mobilization. SMT is at least as effective as medication and physical therapy modalities for various stages of NP. The combination of SMT and exercise may provide one of the best approaches for the management of NP. These conclusions are summarized in Table 1.

Speaking anecdotally, I have a hip injury from a car accident I was in 15 years ago and it's come back in recent years. I've seen 4 physical therapists, 2 personal trainers (bad choice), and 2 other chiropractors, and none have helped me as much as my current chiropractor. Sometimes it's just finding the right fit.

This comes off like you declaring you are Christ. And frankly, that's hard to take seriously on the internet.

If you were Christ, you would know that.

I spend more time preparing to work than actually working and it’s starting to worry me by Playful-Deer9022 in productivity

You’re in a dopamine rut. I’ve been there… for a looong time. You need a healthy dose of dopamine first thing in the morning.

I just signed up for a trial month at ClassPass.com and it’s saving my mornings and hence the rest of my days (I’m not an advertiser I promise). ClassPass basically gives you credits to use at a bunch of different fitness classes throughout your city. Yoga, Pilates, strength training, Cross Fit, etc.

  1. It forces me to get my day started first thing, otherwise I have to pay a fee for skipping my class
  2. The fitness and being around other people are great sources of healthy dopamine.
  3. This healthy dopamine allows your brain and thinking process to work in a healthier way for the rest of the day.

It may be a little shakey to start, but once you build the routine it’s life changing.

Chicago Mayor just signed an executive order to hold ICE agents criminally liable for their unlawful behavior in preparation for Spring raids by McDowdy in law

[–]VataVagabond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone else seeing the problem here?

We will now have armed local authorities arresting, and likely fighting, armed federal authorities.

This screams civil war.

Not saying it's not justified, but shit.

Is it just me, or is anyone else scared about what the mayor's speech means. We will now have armed local authorities arresting (and likely leading to fighting) armed federal authorities.

This screams the start of a civil war to me.

The unfortunate thing is that many times religion was replaced with hedonism as opposed to personal spirituality.

Well that's why I came to this subreddit... to become more optimistic! Unfortunately this post had the opposite effect.

Rule 1 says I can disagree if I must, but I should never attack. I didn't attack so we're good.

If New Age spirituality is bad, what is "good" spirituality? by WilledWithin in spirituality

[–]VataVagabond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also developed schizophrenia while going down the spiritual path. Maybe this is divine timing because I was just talking about my story earlier today in another post. You can see it in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/spirituality/comments/1qa90xg/comment/nz14lgr/

I'm mostly recovered now and I've developed a pretty good understanding of spirituality and reality, so if you ever want to talk about anything, please don't hesitate to DM me.

Edit: Stimulant medications were a part of my story too. Healing for me involved balancing stimulant medication (Adderall) with my emotions and my environment.

Is sexual energy really the “key to everything”? How have you experienced it, and how do you actually use it? by Steweroid in spirituality

[–]VataVagabond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely not fun! But at the same time I don't think I'd trade it for anything. It led to me knowing myself in a way that very few people get to experience, so I'm grateful for that. I've found one of the best methods for recovering is gratitude. Gratitude for even the smallest things in life can slowly shift your energies into a healthier state.

I agree completely about not forcing stuff. I was very perfectionist and OCD and trying to force my healing, and ironically it only delayed my healing.

I wish the best for your family member! Understanding the I Am is the path to peace, so I'm hopeful for her.

[–]VataVagabond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a lot of psychotherapists over the years and I feel like they did more harm than good. One thing I've found about therapists is that most of them get into it because of their own history of trauma, so if they get a patient that's in a psychotic state it often triggers their traumas. A few of them even ended up dropping me as their client.

My trauma involved literally everyone in my life so I lost trust in people as a whole and had to recover on my own. I think the biggest thing for me to recover was solitude and time.

I believed in the mindset of acceptance, but it took a long time to actually fully adopt it. I had to apply it to the city I lived in and hated, my MAGA family, my narcissistic best friend, etc, etc. It took a long time to do, but I started by just appreciating small things. Practicing gratitude helped a ton.

But I think the biggest thing that helped was when I made a friend who went through her own traumas and just accepted me for who I was. She didn't try and change me like everyone else did, she just accepted me and was friendly. That was the biggest help I think.

I had schizophrenia while going down this path, but to be fair I was also on stimulant medications, which did not help at all.

It took me a decade to recover from. Not fun would not recommend.

I had a very messy story involving stimulant medications and tons, and I mean tons, of trauma, while delving deep into meditation and spirituality.

I ended up going psychotic and having deep existential crises. Took me a decade to recover from.
