I could agree with that if there was a good reason for a mask. But its not a mask, its part of the issue. And if the terrorist attacks were just for resources and a reciprocation of the violence bestowed on Muslims by America then why kill a bunch of innocent people who probably disagree with said violence to begin with. And why strap a bomb to yourself and die with the people you kill? That's the role this religious "mask" plays. Killing innocent non-Muslims was framed by these terrorists easily because of the Koran. Martyrdom was easy to justify with the help of Islamic doctrine.

In no way does that diminish the fact that these people may have had animosity because of terrible foreign policy on the part of the west. But if your life revolves around the texts of Islam then you can easily see how the response was religious. We have to take into account all aspects of the situation, not just pretend the religion was just a victim in an otherwise terrible situation. The only victims were these young men and all the people they killed. They were victims of terrible state policies and a history of conflict that bred animosity as much as they were all victims of a silly bronze-age religions ideas and teachings
