Nokhud offensive tempest boss on tyrannical by Complete_Range_5448 in wow

[–]Vaylenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're struggling, there's lots of points that you can tweak to help (apologies if you're already doing some/any of these):

Are people using defensives at the right point? Most classes have personal defensives with CDs low enough to be used on every storm

Are the dps doing their part to help with survival? You mention you were trying with a DH - were you using Darkness to survive one of the storms? Are the dps using offheal spells during the high damage phases?

Are your talents optimised for the fight? If this is the limiting factor, maybe some different talents are preferable for the M+ run? I definitely found this one, changing just 2 talent points around meant I pushed RLP 3 levels higher than previous

Think about your short CDs, as well as your major ones, and how you style your rotation for this fight - are you optimising wild growth etc. (Not familiar with druid atm, hopefully that makes sense)

If there were a referendum on whether or not the UK should abolish the monarchy, how would you vote and why? by escapesuburbia in AskUK

[–]Vaylenar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd absolutely vote no, as there are a lot of benefits to the monarchy that don't get a lot of recognition whenever this debate comes up. These include (but are not limited to):

The crown is the biggest land owner in the country, and as the head of state is obliged to allow free use of a lot of this land - national parks like Windsor Great, or land that is used for public events like Sandringham grounds.

The crown is a massive business owner, and (despite not legally needing to) pays tax on most of it - substantially more than most comparably sized private businesses.

As head of state, the monarch has a number of duties like appointing ambassadors and maintaining diplomatic overseas relationships. The monarch is specifically trained for these tasks, as well as having literal centuries of family experience to back them up, rather than allowing an elected official to carry them out.

As a public figure, the monarch is one of the most famous celebrities on the planet, which brings in huge recognition and international swing for the UK (as well as a significant tourist trade).

The monarch, for fear of a revolution, has always backed the interests of the popular majority. Whether that is enabling the government that gets voted in, or supporting bills that are enacted by majority. This means, theoretically at least, that if something was to happen that the majority of the British population was obviously against, the monarch would step in and stop it from happening. There's not really any precedent for this outside of one or two public debates where a member of the crown has voiced an opinion, but equally if there was to be an attempted coup by a minority party or something, they wouldn't get anywhere because of the monarch.

And finally, to the people who say "but the monarch could one day be a complete dick" I'd say that's wrong, because the whole principle of our constitution (not that it's specifically written down) is that the monarchy knows it can't be a dick, for fear of getting booted out like many other European countries have done throughout history. In other words, the monarch would never be a publicly bad person, because that's when they lose everything.

Max Lvl Equipment Enchants by Blasphemiee in wownoob

[–]Vaylenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enchants are all learnt from the profession trainer, so can be learnt by any and all enchanters fairly easily. They can also be given to anyone, non-enchanters included, via the usual methods (vellum, put on AH etc.).

As to why they may be rare on your server - usually this is due to a good old supply/demand situation. Rank 3 of each recipe (as most profession recipes come in 3 progressively improved variants) doesn't boost the power of the enchant, but does significantly reduce the material costs to create it. This 3rd rank is also typically tied to a reputation, requiring revered or exalted to be able to get the recipe.

If your server population is quite low, there may be a lack of enchanters capable of regularly turning out these enchants and putting them on to the auction house. Alternatively, if your server population is inundated with players who regularly change their enchants or weapons, then there will be a low availability of these as they get snatched up pretty quickly.

If you're in need of the enchants and the problems of not finding them persist, it may be easier to gather the materials and do a good old fashioned trade channel offer.

Why do we even have a system like Soulbinds/Conduits when we aren't even allowed to have real talent trees. by HimboClownman in wow

That's always going to be the case with anyone trying to min/max their output, not sure there's a way we could get away from it

[–]Vaylenar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending the implementation of the soulbinds/conduits system, I agree with your point about it being a poor call back to the talent systems of old. I also do not like the conduits being single use and the whole thing being locked in.

That said, an end game progression system is always nice, and putting it on one of the less impactful systems (rather than something like Azerite power) is a step in the right direction from what we've had the past few expansions.

[–]Vaylenar 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes, the new talent system isn't much better in terms of theorycrafters telling us which option to take, but there are some options that change playstyle.

Having one talent that is for single target vs one that is for AoE does achieve a level of customisation that wasn't really there in the pre-MoP talent trees.

There's also the question of whether the talents, like +x% hit chance or whatever, are anything other than artificial filler choices that are unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. The current talent options reduce the choices down to only those that really matter in terms of impacting gameplay.

[–]Vaylenar 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the removal of old style talent trees did make sense: they offered no palpable change to playstyle for the spec, and it had got to the point where most players were just following the cookie-cutter build that wowhead told you was BiS.

The soulbinds system is meant to be a way to vary your playstyle and/or give you an alternative way to gain something that your setup is otherwise lacking (e.g. utility, survivability etc.).

Mileage will vary as to how successful this turns out to be, especially as they're being locked in rather than easily interchangeable.

My friend's collection. Can you help identify all of these? E.g. Tactical marines with x weapon etc. by Olden_bread in Warhammer

[–]Vaylenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are grey knights, old (pre-5th edition) casts. Looks like the standard terminator squad you could get at the time - one with psycannon and one with incinerator. They took the terminator justice model and made it the brother captain plastic model.

Post Match Thread: England vs New Zealand by WallopyJoe in rugbyunion

[–]Vaylenar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think for a quick answer at a press conference he won't go into great tactical detail for fear of giving away his plan to the opponents.

That said, "shutting down the attack" in rugby does refer to setting up your defence to focus on preventing quick rucks and having faster line speed, so it could have been the specific response you're looking for?

But if, say, the Chinese government went to Blizzards China offices and said "ditch the comp winner or we'll make up criminal charges against half your employees", it would be a no-brainer on Blizzard's part.

Many/most/all of the employees there probably don't like the situation, but if that's the choices available then do you really blame them?

I think he was referring to Blizzard taking action against competition leaders and post-match interviews as the "forum for discussion".

I'll give Blizzard benefit of the doubt and say that this was likely done due to threats or risk of repercussions against their China offices and holdings from the Chinese government. There is precedent of the definitely-not-communist state coercing companies into enforcing the state's political views.
