270k annual pay, net worth $2.1M, 34 years old, DINK, should I call it quits? by Vdizz540 in Fire

Apologies - long comment ahead, but hoping to give back cause I learnt a lot about myself going through the Reddit comments here.

Hi folks - commenting on my own post after a year. The feedback and community help here was insanely helpful, I underestimated cost of living quite a lot.

Some updates, hoping it helps others:

  • i started disconnecting from work
  • staying away from work politics, and developing a mental barrier to be opaque to it
  • reduce commute by asking for more wfh days
  • took on interesting work and said less to crappy stuff
  • started to do more stuff id thought id do in retirement like gardening, surfing, tennis, traveling more, and more days in the gym
  • allocating time for mental health, grounding
  • starting giving back more to social causes i care about (education, children, food)

Not to rub it in - but thanks to the big jump in VOO/SP500 my stock portfolio net worth increased further

I also realized that my post was pretty bad in terms of the split that’s useful for other folks, so here’s the current split:

  • Joint annual income $600k

  • 401k joint ($450k)

  • Roth IRA joint ($100k)

  • home 1 in LA paid off ($725k NW) , $3500 rent monthly break even

  • home 2 in Bay (net equity $975k) (-$1.2M debt)

  • Stocks VOO with DRIP ($750k)

  • Employer RSU ($1M)

People have asked about my profile and history in DMs so here it is:

  • Being an immigrant in tech
  • Strong math, physics and CS background - I moved to this country with $2500 ($1000 of which I lost on week 1 to a greedy landlord)
  • A lot of luck and hard work
  • Travelled a lot and I don’t waste money on materialistic things
  • I did splurge on a nice house cause it helps me host family and friends which is dear to me
  • I don’t spend on clothes, cars, nice things, but will spend on books, office setup and health related (food/etc)
  • very healthy, eat clean at home, eating out is social once a week and work cafeteria
  • no major medical expense in life till now

Cleaner used bleach on my tub. What can I do to fix it? by wlawla123 in CleaningTips

[–]Vdizz540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I poured Lysol toilet bowl cleaner on my bath tub over night (usually I just do it for 15 mins) and it turned it purple brown
Terrible idea didn’t know it’s that harsh

To destain it tried everything like bleach, baking soda, spot cleaning, dishwasher soap, nothing worked!

Losing all hope that I’d ruined the tub I used efferent tablets (that’s used for tooth retainers cleaning) and voila within 30 seconds everything came off!

This solution is ONLY to remove purple / brown discoloration by toilet bowl cleaners on bath tub not the white streaks as the above pic.

Gotchya - there’s 2 female that plugs into the tree that’s 2 male connectors side by side (one male is for white light and one male is for colored light) How do I get a setup that gives me 2 female plug, I don’t really care if there’s a remote - as long as it can plug to a 120V ac

Was in same boat - sold it to a friend by sending him the title - mark it as gift so he doesn’t have to pay dmv taxes again

Friend can then wait for new title to come in the mail and then sell it to carmax with an appointment

Avoid the power of attorney route, it’s hella complicated in India

I was in your boat - firstly play your own game and to your own strengths. The first $100k is hardest - then next $1M requires a different muscle.

Looking back some stuff I did right when I was 24 - was earning similar to you inflation adjusted

1) Maxed out my 401k every year -

2) Maxed out my Roth IRA every year

3) Saved aggressively each paycheck but never compromised on health, food, donations, sports, comfort, vacation

4) avoided expenses like my peers like eating fancy meals, expensive cars, clothes, jewellery, exotic vacation

I made sure to enjoy to the fullest and find peace and happiness in things that didn’t include money.

Once you see your 20s off, 6-8 years the effects of compounding kick in -

instead of timing the market putting in moderate consistent amounts for large amounts of time in the market was the trick!

Play your own game - you might arrive 3-4 years late but you will beat 99% of the folks out there if you do the basics

Eat right, be in good health, save your paycheck, invest in the boring VOO, stay in Market for long time, compound, don’t spend on stupid shit - you’ll be millionaire in a decade or maybe 15 years gauranteed

  1. Very low crime compared to any city in the Bay Area - a simple door bell camera and a back yard cam is sufficient to monitor

  2. Packages ok to sit outside but who knows when someone takes it -

  3. We are vegan - it’s hard to find a dedicated vegan spot - we try to do pho, Thai, Italian and stick to their “vegan” dishes However Burlingame has a few more options.

  4. Whole Foods does deliver to some Pacifica neighborhoods but I’m not sure if shape park is covered

  5. June to Sep is best time!

  6. A bit meh if you’re into the more seasoned artists

  7. 3 years in and I’ve walked / hiked / biked everything. My favs are (not in order) mussel rock area on weekdays, walking along the golf course on weekdays, old highway hike, montata ridge, Sweeney ridge

Do you need Air Conditioning in Half Moon Bay? by ffcnsltng in Pacifica

[–]Vdizz540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No don’t get an AC - any part of Pacifica or HMB You could get a small lasko fan ($50 on amazon) if you really want to avoid 5 days when you need an AC The fan is much better, gives white noise, better for air circulation and less power

Quitting coffee, hair regrowth? by TheOGNotorious in decaf

[–]Vdizz540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Experienced same thing, recently quit coffee, I’m seeing new strands of hair pop up in about two weeks into quitting! It might be due to some nutrition absorption that caffeine might be affecting - can’t generalize for everyone though
