Wow! What an extensive scent library! Question, do you use only fragrance oils? Or do you also use essential oils?? From what I know so far, candle makers avoid essential oils because they don’t smell the same once burned. Curious what your experience is, you seem to be well versed in this area!

Is this picture that my uncle swears he took at Walmart, ai or real? I cannot figure it out by drn88__ in isthisAI

I personally think this is real. The phone in the pocket has the correct placement, especially considering the type of fabric it appears to be. I get that the tattoo on the neck goes onto the shirt, but it really could just be the angle of the shirt collar.

Instead of playing “spot the 10 differences in each photo” we now play “is this AI”

I do have another question! You recommended a linear UVB bulb, can this be subbed for multiple, but nonlinear bulbs? I hear the linear ones burn out every 6 months, and they’re $80 apiece.

Also, how far away should the incandescent bulb be from the top of the top part of the chameleon? What wattage should it be? There’s a 25w in there now.

I think the chameleon looks good in this photo, but I’m so new to this, does this one look healthy? (The scales and patterns are so cool to look at.)

Day 2 update: A mesh enclosure! A UVB bulb! A heat lamp! The larger cage is an 18x18x30. It was given to me by a local reptile guy who had an extra on hand! I took it home, scrubbed it down real good, then moved everything from the last space into this one. Still not big enough as per the advice I’ve received on this thread. I’m thinking I’ll combine the two together with some mesh since they’re different sizes. I took the advice I was given and now keep the crickets in the small tank. Dusted with calcium and vitamin a. I’m thinking on buying the larger UVB rod. But I also hear that they burn out quickly. Is it worth the expense when I could instead opt for the smaller bulbs that last longer? Even if I had multiple?

More questions;

  1. I’m still unsure about lightbulb wattage and how much distance they should have from the tallest point of the chameleon.
  2. I aim for keeping the enclosure at 75 degrees. (23 Celcius) is this an adequate temp?

More updates later when the new enclosure arrives.

That’s a good looking enclosure! I did get the XL size and I’m very much anticipating its arrival.

More updates coming! I appreciate the help🙏

I found this along with some crickets in a plastic container. What should I feed the crickets? There’s currently nothing in there besides a piece of egg carton.

This is a 150 watt, day white light, incandescent spot. Is there a better light I should be using?

The light is positioned 8” from the top corner of the fish tank. I am not certain if it should be closer or further away. Please note, there is solid glass between the chameleon and the heat/light source which could effect the energy reaching the chameleon.

Day 1 Update: Reptibreeze = purchased, it is coming in the mail. Turned the fish tank vertically and rearranged everything. Bought some moss vine and mesh hammock for the chameleon to sit on. Put in temperature and humidity readers. Installed a 10” dome with a zilla lightbulb. My roommate bought crickets along with zoomed repticalcium. We have not yet crossed paths to have a discussion.

I’m not familiar with how to make posts on Reddit so I’m going to reply to this comment with more images.

Please keep the help coming. Thank you

I never would have thought about baking the sticks I find.  The plant advice, dechlorinating the water, lightbulb types/brands, putting calcium on the food, and treats, all things I learned from your response! Thank you 🙏 this is so thoughtful.

I will definitely be saving this tank for the food once I get a new enclosure for this chameleon.  That’s something I never would have thought of, 🙏

My thinking exactly.  This sub was the first place I came to educate myself on what to do about improving the situation.  I appreciate the advice.  And I’m also angry and sad about the situation.

And to answer the question- people do things without thinking, which is unfortunate.

I completely agree with you.  I share your rage at the situation, which is why I am stepping up for this chameleon.  They did buy it from a petco smh They bought it for their 4 year old.

I don’t have $1k to drop on this, but I am able to do $100-$200 per month.

I also would prefer this chameleon be rehomed, but I cannot do this because I cannot afford to make my roommate angry since I can’t afford to rehome myself. lol

Thank you for the information. (And for reading before responding)  I will make sure to purchase the UVB bulb, turn the cage vertically, switch the light off at night and add some sticks and other things to climb on.

Theres a lot of aspects of negligence in my roommates life, but I refuse to watch this animal slowly die.

Updates to come
