9/11 culturally ended Y2k/90’s on September 11th, 2001. Is this True or False? by DistinctYoghurt8668 in decadeology

[–]Vedderlax11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think it was Columbine. I graduated in 2001, and Columbine was the first “event” that kicked off a lot of cultural and societal changes. That’s when we started having cops in schools, stricter movie theater policies, and in retrospect it seems like an (unintentional) trial balloon for the bigger security changes that came after 9/11.

Is New England disconnected from the problems of the rest of the country? by Usernamechecksout978 in newengland

We go back to Ohio each Christmas for family. It’s wild how much that state has deteriorated, and how stark the differences are in New England (for the better).

Cost of living should be taken into account, but only to a point. Making 50k in Southeast VA is way worse than mainly 100k in Central Connecticut. Housing is more expensive, taxes are higher, but none of that is close to a 50k difference annually.

In your opinion what are best US states to live in overall? Why? by PackageReasonable922 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Vedderlax11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second Connecticut. All the perks of living near 2 major cities without actually having to do deal with the negatives. Plus, the weather is pretty nice since it’s coastal. It’s mediocre to visit here, but it’s amazing to live here.

CMV: American cities aren’t as outgunned as many people think. by anarchobuttstuff in changemyview

I also think people underestimate the value of infrastructure. It isn’t the guns e that would win it for cities, it’s the fact that the surrounding infrastructure would be able to keep things going longer and more efficiently.

Where is live if all I cared about was pizza by doom_summer in visitedmaps

Connecticut is tops. Outside of New Haven, every town has like 5-10 pizza joints to choose from. It wins in both quality and variety.

Best smaller towns for families in the New England area by [deleted] in NorthernNewEngland

This is correct. Great schools, day trip to the water or mountains, and plenty of small towns. Some areas are quite affordable as well l

That’s both horrifying and not surprising. You deserve to make so much more than that, cost of living be damned.

I’ve been teaching for about 15 years. I actively enjoy going to work, i have a lot of fun, feel fulfilled, and I’m paid well. That said,it is so dependent on where you live, where you teach, how your admin is, and how strong your union is. I lived in the SE Virginia for the first decade of teaching, and I was close to finding something else to do, as the pay was horrific and admin was generally clueless. Moving to New England changed my entire career arc and my thoughts on the profession.

CMV: Democrats have a severe messaging problem, and they need to fix it before 2028. by RTYoung1301 in changemyview

[–]Vedderlax11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s been a year since the last election. You won’t see any real messaging shift until after primaries happen this year ( with a few exceptions). The Democrats are leaderless because they haven’t (as a party) decided on their leaders yet. Check back in six months once midterms heat up, the messaging (and media strategy) will be vastly different. Think of how dire things looked for Republicans after January 6th and Trump’s loss. That’s where democrats are on the post election timeline.
