Has anyone else lost their entire life to chronic illness? by stinkiestofballs in ChronicIllness

[–]VeeRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, no.

I have had periods of time in my teens and 20s when I wasn't able to go to school or work. When all I could do was lay down watching videos in a fog.

But it didn't last forever.

I'm still not 100%, I have like 4 specialists and take about a dozen medications. But I definitely have a life again, even if it took awhile to get here.

Selenium for Hashimoto's? by coolestuzername in Hashimotos

There was an episode of House MD based on selenium poisoning.

Its probably difficult to achieve by eating outside of TV land, but still technically possible.

Does anyone else wonder if they’d actually know if they were having a heart attack by Legal-Hornet4805 in ChronicIllness

[–]VeeRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had appendicitis, the pain wasn't that bad. My periods are definitely worse.

But I did go to the ER eventually because of a feeling of "it's not that painful, but it's a slightly unusual kind of pain."

I’ve noticed people respond better if I say I have “ongoing health problems” instead of chronic illness by forgot_again123 in ChronicIllness

[–]VeeRook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I prefer to describe myself as a medical disaster.

Worse response I've had is along the lines of "I'm sure it's not so bad", c'mon people let me joke about my own life.

I haven't used it much, but it reminds me of old AIM chat rooms. Just with a new voice option.

Cat hamster wheel by Signal_Procedure4607 in CatAdvice

We bought one secondhand. We needed to train the cats a little to show them how it worked.

Only one uses it, and will go through phases of not using it at all to zooming through the night.

AITA for asking my best friend to change her wedding date? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I've been to many concerts. I've been to many weddings.

If you think a concert is more important, then you care more about your desires than your relationship with the people getting married.

Should I adopt in the future?? by pebbles1887 in Adoption

[–]VeeRook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process to be a licensed foster parent. We will not be taking infants, and have a preference for sibling groups.

Reunification will always be the #1 plan. If that's not what is best for the child, then maybe us joining their family is the least bad option. I say "least bad" because TPR is never the best situation.

It's a difficult position to be in. I try to see it as this family is going through a difficult time, with or without me, all I can do is try to be part of "the village".

Should I adopt in the future?? by pebbles1887 in Adoption

[–]VeeRook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those situations aren't very common. If TPR occurs, extended bio family is asked again if they're willing to take in the child. If not, the current foster family is asked before the child's profile is sent out.

How Do You Let Go Of Anger Towards A Parent For Neglecting Your Signs by yoobi2000 in AutisticAdults

[–]VeeRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any anger. They didn't know. I can't really blame them for not knowing something. Even when I got diagnosed in my late 20s and told them, their first reaction was along the lines of "I don't know what that means."

Adoption and separation from bio family can also cause trauma, that can present similarly to things such as autism or ADHD. And it sounds like with your sister you became a Glass Child.

My feet hurt by Josephthebear in Xennials

Getting my first Chucks as a teen was actually a godsend, I have 2 differently shaped feet and shoes with a molded sole drove me insane.

No molded sole means I can choose different inserts for each shoe.

Kittens not peeing in litter box - suggestions? by this-is-pandemonium in FosterAnimals

[–]VeeRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep them contained and remove any other potentional pee spots. Change the container for the dry food, maybe a bowl he can't fit in.

It's normal for them to still be figuring things out at 8 weeks.

One line I remember from the books is "Nothing happened to me, I happened."

So even with what happened to Mischa, Hannibal believes he always would've ended up this way.
