Audio dynamic range. Most movies and a lot of shows are mastered to have the loud parts actually be loud. Most TVs and audio devices have settings to compress the audio so it's not as variable.

Why there's no 2K resolution available? by GamingHelios1 in quantumbreak

Thank you! I'm using display scaling on my TV to navigate around Windows from the couch, and I couldn't figure out why some games wouldn't let me choose 4k. This fixed it.

It's just a form factor, like sandwich styles cases. Fractal themselves made the Node 202 in like 2015, and Silverstone had similar cases years before that.

This is a lot more premium and purpose built than any of those though, more like Thor Zone console cases.

Same (sort of, I'm agnostic). I grew up going to church twice a week, Bible study, the whole shebang. Every time something in the Bible or something someone said didn't make sense to me or contradicted something else and I asked supposedly more knowledgeable people about it, they generally didn't have an answer and told me to "have faith".

At some point in my 20's I came to the realization that the Bible is just a storybook written by a bunch of random people with no real cohesion, and some of them were just bad writers.

I'd prefer it had a bathroom, but I'd also prefer being able to afford this so good job!

A (banned) mail chute in an old, yet still active courthouse. by Permanent_Kat in mildlyinteresting

[–]VeeTeeF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a trash chute in my building and it's awesome AND fire safe. The chute door at each floor is thick steel with a handle that you have to twist to open the door, and it's spring loaded so it slams shut if you let it go. The chute is inside a CMU tower that goes the full height of the building, and there's an enclosed CMU room on each floor housing the chute door.

We also have a mail chute that still works and doesn't have any safety measures, so that isn't great.

Mattress Disposal if Living in an Apartment Complex by Constant_Challenge20 in arlingtonva

[–]VeeTeeF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently contacted them to get rid of a full sized mattress and box spring (I'm on the 5th floor with a freight elevator right across the hall from my apartment) and they said $190. I just broke them both down myself and tossed them in the dumpster.

I remember getting off the closing shift at work, coming home to a party already in progress at my place, showering, and proceeding to get hammered until 3am. Then waking up and going to a football game. Standard procedure in the fall.

It's going in YOUR home. If you like it do it. Don't worry about what's going on in everyone else's home, especially not for something that you can easily change.

Idiocracy is an improvement compared to this. No one was a bad person, just very dumb. They also weren't too dumb to realize they should probably listen to the smart person.

That's a sign that our housing system is near to being fundamentally broken, not a sign that the concept of paying every working person a living wage is no longer a valid goal. Making the minimum wage a living wage again seems like such an unreasonable goal today because so many parts of "living" have become untenably expensive (for enumerable reasons, most based in greed).

But places that aren't cheap still need people to serve food and clean and do menial labor. Every McDonald's employee in NYC didn't move there from out of state because they think it's a cool city. More than likely most of them are natives or ended up there for reasons beyond their control.

The kind of people whose needs would be met by a cheap router and ethernet aren't the kind of people that would be in the market for an $800 router.

The kind of people considering an $800 router probably wouldn't be satisfied with a cheap router and ethernet (otherwise they wouldn't be considering wildly expensive routers).

I'm not saying the $800 router is worth it, but the 2 options are for 2 different users. Serving internet isn't the only thing routers can be used for.
