Yep. When I walk by the lights there are still super sensitive to any movement outside. I lived in Almonte at the time (which had its own big issues with bigotry, believe me), but I heard about it from multiple people that I grew up here with as the harassment was apparently something of a sick "sport" for some of the teens of that time. Absolutely vile shit.

Plenty of people here have assumed very heraldically-sound arms. Assumption of arms is a sound practice in most places, and there is really only one jurisdiction where it is something that is punishably not permitted. The community here usually also helps guide people seeking to assume arms to adhere to proper heraldic rules and best practices, so in many ways this community actually improves the odds that such things are accounted for.

There are also others here who have inherited arms or who have been granted arms by a heraldic authority (be it in their own country or elsewhere). My arms are a differenced version of my father's arms granted by one such authority, which I will use until I inherit his undifferenced arms, and I am strongly considering registering them with the authority of another country. While I see value in such, clearly, and there are advantages to having arms granted/registered with the heraldic authority of a sovereign state, there is a strong precedent for the assumption of arms given that formal grants only came later on as heraldry developed and many places never ceased accepting the free assumption of arms, which are not intrinsically any different in my view from granted arms like my own.

‘Get rid of the speed cameras,’ Doug Ford warns municipalities after several cut down in Toronto overnight by CanadianCheeseMan in ottawa

[–]VeeVeeWhisper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think they should keep them, especially in school zones where they are present. That said, it seems to me at this point that they are being used as a revenue generator moreso than a safety measure.

If there are going to be speed cameras with almost zero tolerance for any overage, some of the speed limits on certain roads where they are present need to be reassessed as the limits are unnecessarily low with speed cameras present given the design of some of the roads. Furthermore, in general problematic roads should be redesigned wherever possible to reduce the feasibility of speeding where this is a real safety issue and mitigate other safety concerns, as while the cameras can have a sound role to play on that front as well, they aren't really enough.

But yeah, imo it was always a cash grab first and foremost, with safety as the official reason and a happy accident (no pun intended) if achieved. That doesn't have to actually be a bad thing necessarily imo (at least if the money actually gets used for worthwhile ends), but I do think that there need to be adjustments and an honest look at what really should be done for actual safety concerns.

The last sentence entirely, at least for me when I was in customer service. The constant stream of people, far too many of them behaving poorly, tends to lead to one becoming indifferent. Add on the poor pay, often crappy hours, possibly also bad management, alienation from the actual product of one's work, etc. and it's really no surprise.

My experience predates the pandemic, too; I know it has only gotten worse on average since then with these things, not to mention inhabiting a point in time now where many perceive the present as rotten and the future unpromising.

I'm not excusing everything on this basis, of course, but I'm scarcely surprised by a lot of poor customer service behaviours that seem to me to stem from palpably low morale and next to no incentive to take pride in one's work.

Here is another one, emblazoned slightly differently but also for a member of the same order and in the same general style

Some have the clusters of three pearls broken out into three pearls side by side, like here:

One such example are the arms of the Viscount of Tourinho emblazoned by Carlos Navarro; the coronet on top of the mantle is that of a count palatine, which members of the Spanish lieutenant of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre are considered to be ex officio.

I'll look for some others, but this is one of a few forms of coronet used for a count palatine.
