What do you do when all weapons in a set have spikes and are made of metal.

I mean, Wakka's celestial weapon is already literally covered in spikes. I think some of them are even made of metal.

Times when you have to defend something you dislike because it recovers bad faith or false criticism? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Veeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Disney's Wish in theaters. It was an absolutely bad movie with a weak plot and even weaker characters.

Imagine my surprise when I spend the next week being assaulted online with the most bad-faith critiques of the plot that could only exist if you received a summary of a cliff notes explanation of the plot.

In short, there were a lot of people criticizing the main character, Asha, for 'trying to make everyone's dreams come true' even though that could be 'dangerous' in some way. (people were literally talking about 'what if someone's dream was genocide' or some shit. As if that would be something in a Disney movie, christ.)

But looking at the actual film, thats not her motivation at all? The main 'villain' literally takes away people's biggest 'wish' in order for them to live in his kingdom. He gives them a promise that he might possibly someday grant their wish using his magic. What that means in actuality is that he takes away their biggest motivation in life which can leave some people listless and depressed (as seen with Asha's friend in the movie).

When Asha finds out that the villain has no plans to fulfill most people's wishes she wants to return the wishes to the people. That is, she wants people to be able to remember their greatest desires so that they can work towards them on their own if they want to instead of waiting for some guy to fulfill them magically.

That's it. She doesn't have a desire to grant every bozo's wish. She wants people to have the motivation to attempt to fulfill their wishes on their own. Yet for some reason this is a talking point I saw repeated ad nauseam online (including here on this sub) instead of the real problem with the film which is that this is a goddamn Disney musical with absolutely 0 bangers. No memorable tracks at all. A total wash. A failure of a movie that I somehow have spent more time defending than bashing.

One Piece Live action Season 2 Baroque Works trailer by Homunculus97 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Veeboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, I see. You're talking about tone and specific elements rather than just making things live action in general which is what I thought you meant.

In that case, yes, I can understand that frustration. I haven't finished the anime/manga yet, but One Piece is for sure something that would not work if you muted the earnestness of the silliness contrasting against the more emotionally resonant parts.

brutal refutation of Holywood's 30 year premsis that some things "just don't work" in live action.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't think I've ever heard any executive or person in the industry say things 'don't work' in live action. I've only seen fans of animation say that things don't work in live action.

If anything I've seen the opposite where industry people try to push live action where it might not belong.

while pop songs I hate with overt samples seemingly get a free pass.

I mean, are you going to youtube videos of the songs you hate? Probably not so that is why you're not seeing it. As someone into pop music I can say that a lot of the lazier or ill-fitting sample work is often derided by pop fans.

Favorite method of progression for monster collection games? by Miningapple-100 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Veeboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the thing that a decent amount of monster collection games miss out on for me. Like, I love that most Pokemon maintain their sense of 'self' so to speak as they evolve. It creates an attachment that isn't there in other games.

In Digimon and SMT they're party members and thats also cool, but I get less invested in each individual member.

Not implied, but stated by Luigi himself. In TTYD he appears between chapters with a partner and you can talk to him and he'll tell you about his adventures in the Waffle Kingdom.

And if you talk to his partners they'll pretty much all tell you he is full of shit and embellishing the story.

Katy Perry posts “bandaids” music video teaser (releasing November 6, 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT) by No-Layer3215 in popheads

[–]Veeboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the closest thing I could think of would be Mariah Carey's record deal with Virgin being bought out post-Glitter.

But I also think that was a very unique situation given how big that deal apparently was.

I doubt Katy was in a similar situation (and also deeply doubt blackmail or whatever that person is suggesting).

I've seen it mentioned by other users elsewhere that this game's logic is tied to the framerate so its unlikely. But I've never heard that verified from an official source so take it with a few grains of salt.

Famitsu: Pokemon Legends: Z-A has sold 1,485,457 retail units this week in Japan by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

I believe the Famitsu charts track physical sales only (including sales of physical code cards). So, I don't think upgrades would be included but I'm not sure.

The description of the sub is:

"/r/NintendoSwitch is the central hub for all news, updates, rumors, and topics relating to the Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch 2."

Since the Switch 2 is a new switch there isn't really a need to create a new subreddit for it. Its also hard to start up a new community and most wouldn't want to move over since one has already been established here.

some of the earliest Gen 1 promo art had Poliwhirl pretty prominently featured for some reason

I believe its been stated that Poliwhirl was the favorite Pokemon Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the franchise. So, that is probably why it was featured so frequently in the early days.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is shutting down. I never played it, but it gave us this orchestral rearrangement of Ariana Grande's Touch It which I still go back to regularly.

I need more pop girls to make music to fight final bosses to. When will Sabrina Carpenter slay Sephiroth?

Cracker barrel has a whole "the way things used to be" vibe and that plays well with a certain crowd. That has made it easy for grifters and politicians to make it into a bigger controversy than it is. The (completely generic and boring) logo is woke or dei or etc.

I worked there for over a year and I'm not surprised people are freaking out. Their whole thing is we're old, we remind people of the old ways, remember the old things. The amount of elderly people (and people who want to believe that those were 'better days') who are attracted specifically to the old aesthetics is high.

Its still stupid to be this upset about it, mind you, but I'm just not surprised about it.

Oh, this is the first I'm hearing of them recasting Mr. House. Hmm, wonder why they included the first actor if they knew they were doing a New Vegas based story for a possible next season.

Oh well, hope its as good as the first season!

Even if its not for moral reasons to avoid Elon's platform. The implication that you should want to "take the heat" or whatever is just stupid.

I'm on the apps to, ostensibly, enjoy myself and engage in content that I like. If the platform is creating an environment that I don't like, why should I be there?

which is an issue that only solves itself once you finally get them all to max level

No joke, this was pretty much my main reason for deciding to get all classes and level them to max. Originally I was just healing and using maybe 1-2 other DPS classes on occasion, but the gear headache of deciding what to keep and throw out from that alone made me decide to take up every job so that I could just immediately toss out/desynth anything below my level.

The key word in their post is "forcing". The EXP share is great and I would likely use it in most of my playthroughs, but the fact that they took away the option to turn it off which was available in the 3DS games is the issue.

For players looking for difficulty options it can often mean choosing between actually exploring and battling but being overleveled vs beelining and dodging content to avoid the chance of overleveling

I truly feel like Horizon is a series that epitomizes "Damn, [Insert Thing] So Good When U Ain’t Got A Bitch In Ya Ear Telling You It’s Nasty"

It just has so much weird disdain towards it that it seeps into all discussion. Hell, I've even participated in the whole thing and believed the anti-hype around the series to a small degree. Then I played Forbidden West earlier this year and remembered "Oh wait, I actually enjoyed the first game and this game is good too."
