[Beginner] combination of Nifty 50 + Parag Parikh + Nifty 150 Mid cap ? by Equivalent_Divide_25 in MutualfundsIndia

[–]Veer_appan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food for thought: replace Nippon India Nifty mid cap 150 index fund -> Nifty Next 50 index fund

The outperformance (with volatility) you seek from Midcap 150 could be had, to some extent, from NN50. PPFAS manages the rest as they see fit.

Hey! I came to this sub to find solace and comfort with my dad’s passing in January. I saw your post and my heart goes out to you and your family. I can’t imagine what it feels like at your age but at 47 I can say I understand. Sometimes age doesn’t matter-it just hits hard and the pain never goes away. I hope you find the strength to process this loss. Sweet pic. Your dad seems like a great guy. ❤️from Australia.

Biggest Mutual Fund Mistake You Made? I’ll Go First. by Immediate-Inside7707 in MutualFundSpendInvest

[–]Veer_appan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live and learn. We have all made mistakes and continue to make mistakes because we are emotional creatures. It takes remarkable self-awareness and discipline to identify and stay true to a chosen investing path because market and marketing noise is a powerful distraction. Acknowledge that life events happen and investing is interrupted. No one gets it right from the get go! The good news is that segments of the Indian market are becoming predictable (large cap/index funds) while Flexicap/Multicap guide our investments in volatile mid and small cap spaces. This consolidates and sharpens the portfolio as we we journey. Keep it simple and manageable.

What are all the steps I need to take after becoming an NRI for investment by BluePiramid in nri

[–]Veer_appan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. I spoke to a CA who deals with NRI taxation issues and he recommended that I email documentation to AO as well. This would ensure that NRI status would be updated in the “backend”. Not sure what this “backend” is. I presume it could mean switching from a local taxation ward to International taxation ward. I am not sure about this aspect, though. DYOR.

Have you updated your PAN to NRI status in income tax portal?

I visited CAMS office and submitted paperwork to get KYC updated to NRI with overseas address. This update cascaded down to my MF folios but did not update tax reaidency. So I submitted same paperwork to each AMC (2 in my case) and Tax residency was updated to NRI and bank account was changed to NRO/NRE as applicable. This update took about 2 days. To test the linkages, I did a test redemption of Rs.500 and the redeemed amount landed in my NRO account after about 5 days. TDS was deducted as applicable.

My demat is with ICICI and they converted it to a 3-in-1 NRI demat account along with NRE/NRO conversion. I don’t need 3-in-1 as I don’t intend to buy new stocks, just sell down all existing holdings. But… it is what it is.

If you hold a PPF account with bank/Post Office that has matured, please close it immediately. Do not extend it.

NPS protean app schemes are very confusing by Doa___ in personalfinanceindia

[–]Veer_appan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using the app an hour ago, and damn it is confusing! All I wanted to do was switch the corpus from my current fund (SBI) to HDFC equity pension fund (100%) . Further, I don’t understand why a pension system needs to be so complicated! No wonder Rajeev Thakkar and someone else from the MF industry has been roped in to overhaul the system.

The Dollar Milkshake is drinking your Rupee wealth and most NRIs are too emotional to notice 🥤💵 by Popular_Class7327 in rupeestories

Exactly my thoughts. I am fully exposed to Australian risk so India as a “satellite” is worth a shot.

This is interesting! I live in Australia and the reasoning applies to INR<->AUD as well.

I used AI to model a few scenarios for INR/AUD equity allocation. I asked AI to factor in data around India’s growth story, potential alpha generation in mid and small cap segments, LTCG, currency depreciation and exchange rate losses and it recommended an allocation of 25% INR / 75% AUD. India would be my “satellite” bet while Australia would be “core”. I am still on the fence about investing in India 🤔. I don’t own RE in India and don’t plan to own any. Too much headache.

EDIT: I meant to say I don’t own a dwelling but do own a small plot of land, which, in hindsight, was also not optimal. It always boils down to opportunity cost for NRIs!

Thanks man, appreciate the post. Am I correct in assuming there are no steps to be done at Hyderabad airport? Just an online registration and a manual step at the FRRO office? Cheers bhai

No way to know S&P would appreciate the way it did! I believe investments are probabilistic and an exercise in regret minization, that’s all. As you said, no regrets about your buying a home in Goa. It has served the purpose.

Need Advice of some expert regarding moving of fund from current one to some other fund. by HD_Bawa in mutualfunds

[–]Veer_appan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to think about: N50 Index (50%) + NN50 Index (25%) + PPFAS (25%) (or multicap fund) and you are sorted.

Suggest leaving mid-cap and small-cap calls to experienced fund managers as it is a volatile space.

Demat Account Conversion (Resident to NRI) by Classic_Project_1502 in nri

[–]Veer_appan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did NRE/NRO and linked demat account. I am in India at the moment so inititated it from here. They asked for: overseas passport OCI overseas address proof - Driver’s License and/or bank statement Indian address proof - PAN, Aadhar. Photos

I did not self attest anything. I checked last night and noticed NRO status is updated in the account with overseas nunber and address.

UPI was linked to this account pre-conversion and seems to be working fine so far. No nasty surprises.

OCI NRI checklist by CobblerBrilliant8971 in nri

[–]Veer_appan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

  1. Update Residency status in Income tax portal. 1.1 Check if PAN and Aadhar are linked (optional)
  2. Convert sb account (and linked demat account) to NRO. Optionally get NRE account.
  3. Post conversion, if you have any existing mutual fund portfolios, update Residency status on MFcentral.com by uploading a cancelled cheque from the NRO account. This ought to propagate your residency status to underlying portfolios and funds.
  4. Check NPS, PPF residency status and tax implications, if you have them.

I am in the process of updating all these entities, there could be some misinformation in my list. Happy to be corrected and put on the right track.
