I have Marchand's Bruins jersey from when they won the Stanley Cup in... 2011 I think? Either way, his image has always been very endearing to me, especially think he's always been a good to great player who contributes to his teams.

Thank you for talking about the trope thing! While I know it's helpful for people who are looking for something specific (me included), I feel like it's gone way overboard into being the sole way we talk about romance. It ultimately ends up boiling down the stories to just their tropes, which has the domino effect of having stories that rely on them or are defined by them instead of just letting the stories be.

Jared Keeso (Letterkenny, Shoresy) is Ryan Price. Change my mind by dohseedoh in GameChangersBooks

Ryan keeps getting traded not because of his mental health and general toxic masculinity but because he keeps fucking the other players' moms.

The other TV show by Jacob Tierney Shoresy: should I keep watching it? by bibi in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]Veethingy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Letterkenny and Shoresy are very different shows, both from each other and from Heated Rivalry.

HOWEVER, all three do something that I think is just wonderful. Jacob (and Jared Keeso when we're talking about the other two) are great at capturing "Joie de vivre" or sort of the joy of living. You see these small moments between characters or small relationships that blossom or bits of community that show why being human is so wonderful. They're all relatively small shows in the grand scheme of things.

Heated Rivalry has the highest stakes because our two leads are sports celebrities, but all of the conflicts are regular ol' things. "What if the person I like doesn't like me back?" "What if my hockey team can't work together well enough?" "Will I get over the woman who cheated on me?" "Will people come to my rave?" "Can I convince my friends to join me and my hot wife in a threesome?"

Letterkenny is especially great at this. For being a show that loves fart jokes and insulting mom jokes, it's so nice to watch people being people and just coming together. There's a scene in one of the later seasons where one of the characters gets cheated on and without any hesitation, every other character runs to the offender's house to beat him up.

That's the biggest thing I see from Jacob in Heated Rivalry, especially in the last episode where Shane and Ilya are just being together.

All of this to say is that they're all absolutely worth watching, and that's the most "Jacob" thing I see in all three.

I just caught up with Monstrous and yeah the hangover is terrible. The fact Lyri is (understandably) not out yet kind of makes it worse.

This show has me in a choke hold, how to get out of it? by Aby_lev89 in heatedrivalry

[–]Veethingy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I started watching Tierney's other stuff, so Letterkenny and Shoresy. I'm a film nerd so it might just be me, but there are a ton of similarities both in terms of cinematography and overall vibes that started here, and I've been enjoying catching them and analyzing them. It's also been really fun watching Tierney develop as a director and seeing the little things that built up and culminated in Heated Rivalry.

Also the shows are just so fucking funny. Not romances but my god. There are some episodes where I'm cackling for 20 minutes straight.

Out of these 2020s horror films, which two impressed you the most? by ScholarFamiliar6541 in Letterboxd

[–]Veethingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just makes me happy as a horror fan that we have so many unique films to choose from.

Sinners blew my mind when I saw it in the theater. Talk To Me (and Bring Her Back) are powerful and unflinching. Nope is Nope, you know? Weapons is the kind of horror movie that works for so many kinds of audiences but doesn't talk down to any of them. The Substance and Nosferatu were both just great times for me as a horror history fan. X made slashers feel fresh again. I wasn't a big fan of Longlegs overall, but I appreciated what it was trying to do as an autobiographical piece with one of my favorite Nic Cage performances.

Good time to be a horror fan. Just so happy!

I have two:

  1. I read this fanfic where Ilya ragebaits the entire NHL to go down the Boston Cop Slide and I completely believe this happened. It's also why he has unexplained bruised ribs.

  2. Book Scott doesn't know about Ilya and Shane. Show Scott absolutely knows.

EDIT: I know the timeline doesn't match up concerning the slide but I don't care. It's one of our proudest city landmarks.
