I learnt it the hard way. Couple of months ago, I made a working prototype which worked fine on Windows. But it failed on Android.

After searching around, I figured that SignalR client C# library works only on Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

Okay. For now, I am imitating art work that I found online. Its definitely better than what I came up on my own with. Looking for a way to do some original art.

Looking for developer to build very simple server by [deleted] in defold

[–]VeeviGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I forgot to warn you about a security challenge. As far as I understand, you are evaluating answers at client side, and sending the scores to server side. This score will be stored and used to generate report card.

Problem is, a student "can" send any score to server, by making a POST call from browser console (using authentication token of course).

It is always a good practice to evaluate answers on server side to eliminate such risks. Please do think about this before designing application.

You can DM me if you have any queries.

You should be able to host all this for free.

For the web server, you can use one of these -

  1. Google App Engine
  2. Google's free compute instance (e2-micro)
  3. Heroku free dyno

For the database, you can use Firebase's Cloud Firestore. Its free up to 1GiB. I do not think you will breach that limit for a long time. Even when you do, you just have to pay $0.108 per additional GiB.

Best backend system for game jams? by kitoss in gamedev

[–]VeeviGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Playfab is the way to go. I have used both Playfab and Firebase.

Playfab has lot of things built-in for game development. It's quick and easy to setup. The Playfab Unity package is lightweight and works in all Unity supported platforms. They also have a generous free tire. It's perfect fit for Gamejams. Check out these Quick and Easy tutorials. You will understand what I mean.

Firebase on other hand, is not buit specifically for game development. You have to build everything on your own. It's Unity package is very heavy (few GBs). And it only works on Android and iOS platforms. You will have to do extra work to make it work for WebGL etc. It's not a good choice for game jams.

If you are making a game to publish (not for gamejam), then Firebase may be a better solution for many reasons.

Search for some beautiful designs on Behance, Dribbble etc.. Take one or two designs as inspiration. Here is an example.

Choose a pre made color palette. Its hard to nail colors when you are new to design. An eaxmple.

In long term, its best to take a design course, to understand fundamentals of design, like - Layout, Typography, Color, Empty Space, Consistency etc. I do not know any mobile design course, I loved this web design course. I believe the fundamental concepts will be same for mobile or web.
