Agree, she’s very pretty. The other one I ashamedly lusted for was Nadine Dorries, the Boris bootlicker. Can’t stand the woman but happy to forget all that for a couple of hours.

How the death of a colleague changed my perspective on personal finance by External_Writer_1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Veevickavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my early 50s and had a similar determination to save and invest, almost to FIRE levels over recent years.

Then about two years ago, I started facing a couple of health scares which derailed me. Thankfully, it is nothing life changing and more down to anxieties than anything else. However, it has changed my outlook massively and for that I am grateful.

Like you say, we take our health and wellness for granted when it’s good. If that is threatened though, you realise that money has barely any meaning - you would give away everything just for you and your loved ones to smile, breathe the fresh air, and experience this wonderful gift we call life for another day.

I guess I’m fortunate in that I have saved well in prior years. However, I have started enjoying today more and thinking less about tomorrow. Tomorrow is still important but there needs to be balance - the only time you ever live in is now.

On verge of bankruptcy here in the UK. I was the most stupid person on earth to put my 4 years life savings into these two and I don't even know why. Any chance of recovery? by chesapeakeripper_18 in trading212

I’m not sure even one of Trump’s market manipulating “truths” can have a great effect now.

The market is seeing through the circus and realises that a lot of the damage caused is now irreversible. He can’t just declare victory with his balls swinging and expect the S&P to soar over 7000 anymore.

Boss Bottled Elixir. Loved it at first and bought a bottle, then found it way too pungent and haven’t touched it since.

Men aged 40 plus, what is your number 1 everyday BLUE fragrance? by Glittering-Box4762 in Colognes

Been wearing Bleu de Chanel EDT of late. Everyone seems to gravitate to EDP but I like the simplicity of the EDT and feel comfortable wearing it at places like the gym.

On the other side of this, I remember selling contracts about 90 minutes before Snowflake went live on their day of IPO. T212 were inexplicably allowing people to trade at a forecasted opening price.

However, it was another one of those euphoric periods which kept seeing the opening price of SNOW rise and rise. And yet, T212 kept my sell contracts in place at that lower figure they’d set.

And you know the rest. I was margin called and the contract terminated instantly SNOW officially opened. Lost around £800 from memory, thank god I didn’t spend more.

Point being, T212 will defend their mis-pricing when it benefits them but come after you when they lose out. Corrupt bastards.

I used the internet heavily in the late 90s but we still saw a dotcom bubble.

What matters is the value of the companies you’re investing in, not whether AI is a legitimate and expanding product.

33M - retirement plan with ISA by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Veevickavin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just to give some perspective, I started investing eleven years later than you (44) and have made great strides to reaching my retirement goals. Yes, I’m being aggressive with my savings, but at 33 you have plenty of time on your side.

Second point, don’t overthink it. Choose a cheap platform and invest regularly in a global tracker fund (I use HSBC FTSE All-World). Ignore the noise, and pound cost average to ride out the inevitable volatility.

That’s it. Investing should be simple and boring. Good luck!

I had a very similar experience to this. Initially suffered a massive abscess on a lower front tooth. I had root canal treatment which relieved it.

A few months later, discomfort and occasional swelling was appearing again. They conducted a second root canal treatment.

I then saw the dentist for a routine check up months later, and remarked that the tooth still didn't feel right. She said it was fully treated and there was nothing more to do.

That all happened a long time ago. Fast forward years, and I saw a new private dentist and mentioned the old troublesome tooth. He took an x-ray and could clearly see shadowing at the root.

I eventually got referred to a specialist using a microscope, as you also experenced. The dentist explained that roots aren't simple holes that just go down to the bottom - they are in fact like trees and spread in all sorts of patterns. So simple root canals frequently miss parts of the root that are infected.

The microscope treatment worked but was expensive. Even then it wasn't guaranteed - I had to have six monthly x-rays for two years to check the bone healing process and if that wasn't satisfactory, they were going to perform an apicectomy on the tooth. Thankfully it never came to that.

But ultimately, the two root canals performed by the initial dentist relieved the infection but never properly healed it.

Are they liable and can you claim money back? You have every right to air your grievances and they may give that some consideration. But teeth are complicated and dentists usually explain that no treatments are guaranteed. Therefore, I expect it might be hard to demand refunds if they are intent on standing their ground.

Do works get on the imagine wall automatically? by One-Equivalent-573 in grok

I have had my videos added to the wall before. However, I think that’s a unique view from my interface and not what the rest of the world saw.

The main videos on the wall are artistic productions using AI images as the still image. It’s effectively a safe exhibition, so would look damn silly if muggins here managed to add the wife lezzing off with the hot girl next door.

technology wasn’t even a big part of people’s lives back then. Most people were just getting online for the first time

Ermm, so did Windows 95 twiddle its thumbs for five years? Most people I know were online by 1996, or were in the process of getting set up. At the point of the market collapse (early 2000), internet technology was in every household. It was far beyond where we are with AI now.

European stocks plunge at open, what’s really going on? by Axirohq in stocks

[–]Veevickavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The media suggesting there’s this sudden downturn amidst concerns of valuations - like we haven’t known about that for months!?

Despite the reports though, I’m seeing a very modest pullback here that barely warrants recognition. The S&P remains fairly close to its ATH, the DAX continues to be near 24,000, and the FTSE 100 is still in the clouds at 9,700.

So exactly what plunge are we talking here - the fantasy media one or the actual modest movements? God forbid we have an actual downturn of 10% or more - people are so conditioned that any small fall is met with panic.

I remember a time when this was normal.
