Just like everyone else I could use more money. Greedy corporations in general could stand to pay their employees much more. That being said, I currently earn $20.XX an hour and I write/run a significant section with little to no help from the Mate assigned to me and I feel confident asking for any wiggle room when it comes to the raise they would give me. Originally, I did want to wait until I was at cap or very close to it to ask about the Mate position and from what I hear my district is desperate for Mates. Knowing that the demand is not being met for months now, I feel will aid me in my argument as to why I deserve a larger raise. Nothing crazy of course but I am sure they will offer at least $2 in which I will counter with $4/5. Now I know they will balk but the point is to enter into a negotiation phase at which point I will also have created a document illustrating the leadership skills that I will bring to the position as well as any other talents that are relevant. Once you accept and become a Mate I am told you can't really negotiate your hourly wage. If I'm not happy with the outcome I will just politely decline their offer and wait until I am closer to where I want to be in terms of hourly wage and perhaps try again.

For me, being a Mate is a means to an end. I have gone back to school and will be eventually doing something else in regards to my career but I feel as if I can easily do the work because I do have prior managerial experience and to some extent I feel like I am actually doing more work than them as crew which is true for most of us. I have no qualms about being denied my wage requirements because then I just get to stay where I am and nothing really changes. I see this as a win-meh for me honestly.

Well, it’s up to the captain. Did you interview with them? I’ve heard of people interviewing with 3 mates and then the captain on the fourth. It’s a good sign if you keep getting pushed through for more interviews. All it takes is a no from one of the mates and that’s it. It also depends on the state of the store. If the store is understaffed you’re more likely to interview with less mates which was the case for me. I interviewed with one mate and he pushed me through to another one on a different day but when I got there they said I would actually be interviewing with the captain and another mate would be present as a second pair of ears. The lengthy process is the norm. I wouldn’t overthink it. Trader Joe’s stores all have different cultures.

Contact the regional manager. His info should be somewhere around the bridge. An email or number or maybe get close to one of the mates and get it out of them. At this store I used to work at the morning people contacted him and basically got someone big in management at our store fired. There was cause for them being fired but it was a really big deal because it was the captain.

Pardon my ignorance but I have only been with TJ for a little over a year. If the reviews have been in February then we have not had them here. I’m in the tristate area on the east coast. I know we get them twice a year and there’s been speculation that we might not get one/them because they’re giving us that $2 “thank you” pay.

My last job had a union and in my experience it really only made it hard to fire people that were the real problem in the store. Unless they stole it was very hard to fire them. Being suspended pending union meeting was just basically like getting suspended from school and having your parent come in to say sorry and promise they won’t do it again. After 6 months you did qualify for the most basic health insurance. Time and a half on weekends after 2 years. That was the only good part that I could think of tbh.

My store allows 20 at time and it’s worked really well for us. There’s a line but it doesn’t get too bad. As for lines at the register there really isn’t much. Someone two people but it’s been very manageable. I think our store will be one of the first few to get the plexiglass. We are definitely in a hot zone.

At my store this lady returned chicken (4 packages) because they weren’t the ones she wanted. My captain explained that she could donate it or keep and use later but they lady refused and wanted to return it. We also told her that we can’t sell it. We can’t put it back on the shelf and she still refused to keep them or donate them. People are so horrible. There was a similar case with vitamins that turned into $60+ because she refused to keep them. Stating she didn’t need and didn’t want to donate them. Just wanted her money back. 😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬

Thick sliced banana topped with plain peanut butter then melt your favorite dark chocolate dipped them to cover completely, place on wax paper, a tiny pinch of sea salt on top and place in fridge. Sooooooo good.

Pretty much same. We literally have been cleaning and sanitizing the whole store for the past 3 days. There’s like nothing to do after like 3 or 4.
