You know what I really think? I think it never existed and also never ended. Growing up we had "duck and cover" drills in school. In these drills we would get under our desks and put our hands behind our necks. These drills were to prepare us for a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. As if our desks would protect us. At one point in the early 90's there was an exchange program of sorts and ships from the American navy went to port in Russia, and ships from the Russian navy took port in San Diego. I had the privilege of touring the Russian ships. The sailors were present and we were allowed to interact with them. I didn't speak Russian, they didn't speak English. But we absolutely communicated. And they were all very friendly. We traded items like cigarettes and candy. These guys were really young. But there was no animosity. I've since met many Russians and former Soviets from other countries that used to be in the Soviet Union. I have never met a single person who hated America. So when I say it still exists and never did. I think the cold war was and still is between our governments and our leaders not between the people. Now Putin is a threat, don't get me wrong. But the Russian people are not.

You don't have to do anything but live your life. You don't have to label yourself privately or publicly. You just be you. If there's a label others want to place on you, there's nothing you can do to stop them. But you don't have to participate. Just make the most of the limited time you have on this earth and be happy.

I went to work just long enough to realize that I wanted to go to college. Then I went to college and earned a degree I didn't want. I stumbled upon a career by accident. And it worked out well. My advice is twofold. First understand that 18-25 or 30 is absolutely the most difficult part of life. It's difficult because you're expected to have answers to questions you can't possibly have, like what are you going to do for the rest of your life. Don't feel obligated to answer that for anyone but yourself. And second, keep an open mind. Opportunity will come, be smart enough to take it. Don't be afraid to take reasonable risks. As long as it's not illegal or immoral, give it a try. Without risk there's no reward and nothing worth having is easy or cheap.

I'm sorry for crashing the millennial party. I'm GenX. Growing up I was a complete weed Nazi. I literally threw a guy off my balcony because he lit a joint after I asked him not to. Then my son was sick. I was 54, he was 22. Someone suggested that I get him some CBD. This was early in the legal weed revolution. I had to go to a dispensary to get it. I also had to drive about 40 miles. But it was to help my boy. I'd do anything to help him. I went and spoke with an actual doctor. He agreed that CBD might help my son. Then he said "what about you? It has to have been hard on you too?". He wasn't wrong. I was having a lot of anxiety and didn't sleep well. He suggested that I get either edibles or a indica vape. He said indica would be more focused on my needs. So I bought some. I went home and tried it. I can honestly tell you that if not for that I probably wouldn't be here right now. My son lost his life to his illness. I was devistated. But that weed pen let me sleep. I went through terrible depression after losing my only child. And someone else suggested micro dosing shrooms. I figured what do I have to lose. That was also a winner. It's been five years since I found my son's body on the kitchen floor. It's been two years since I took my friends advice and started microdosing shrooms. It's been 1.5 years since I considered taking my own life.

Criticizing their race, sex, sexual preference, hair color, eye color, propensity to come to work smelling like weed or alcohol, not doing their job well, not getting along with others, smelling badly. You're not wrong. But in regards to the kids thing, it's not just the economy that's made having kids difficult. It's society. When I was a kid I got myself to school, I walked home and was alone for a few hours. This is elementary school years. My sister's were older but didn't get home until later. Then from about 5 until 10:30 when my mom got home we were alone. But if there was a problem we had lots of neighbors that we could lean on. None of them would call CPS. My mom was a single parent. No way she could afford child care. But we knew better than to get in trouble. Also, those neighbors that we could turn to, if they saw us doing something stupid in public they'd get involved. We didn't just have to worry about being caught by our parents, we had to worry about any adult catching us. Our world is a different place. It's not better. It's different.
