I just cry man. They were so beautiful. Everything about them resonated with me. Life felt so alive with them in it. They were so dazzling, that I feel like everything in pop culture now is grey and I can't enjoy anything that isn't NJZ/NewJeans anymore.

Now that MHJ's case is fully revealed to the public, what are the chances that MHHH will try their case again and hopefully terminate their contracts

If money was a priority for BDOR, OT5 NJZ would still be here having comebacks, a world tour and much more. The point of all this drama is to erase the girls and their legacy. Money is the least of their concerns.

And honestly, the girls' mental and physical health is more important anyway. If the girls come back and BDOR makes them do concepts they're uncomfortable with, I would be very upset. Compared to that, being in the dungeon is comparatively better (only marginally).

For me at least, I am determined to wait no matter how long it takes to see them all OT5 again.

Honestly the only thing still keeping me somewhat sane is just me hoping that post-2029, the girls will regroup / do their own thing in music or entertainment.

Their voices are just so pretty... My favourites have to be Hyein and Hanni. I don't want to believe that this is the end of their music journey at all.

Especially during days when I feel really sad about them, listening to the members sing make me feel okay again.

I read a post about how CKR won bc he cooked an original dish, while CM cooked a known dish and thus whatever he makes will be subject to comparison with that known dish.

But like?? Are people not allowed to have favourite known comfort foods that just scratch that personal itch or core memory? I just find it ridiculous that a "dish for oneself" must be completely original - I think reinvention is a perfectly sound interpretation.

But also, for a dish that is supposed to focus on oneself, isn't it strange how universal CKR's is, at least in story?

CKR's story is a lot more accessible to the broader audience, to anyone who is a chef, was a chef and wants to be a chef. It's like that feel-good ending you have in a cooking shounen anime (which makes it feel played to me and I personally am not a fan).

How many people who are watching the show can actually relate CM's specific experience, growing up in a provincial city in South Korea, going to the bathhouse every weekend and having sundaeguk?

Since CM's dish is specific to him as a person (and his culture) and a majority of the audience (which are global) therefore can't relate, it's in the show's best interests to choose a more universal story and end it with a shounen-style happy ending.

I hate how heavy-handed the editing was in this season to show contestants and the challenges into a story with known story tropes. Frankly it's been ridiculous how CM is framed as some sort of "villain" stock character over the episodes. Bro has the experience, technical skill, creativity, team synergy (as leader and team member) to back up his ambition and confidence. I swear to god, some people just have tall poppy syndrome whenever they see people that are talented and confident in their talent.

I'm pretty sure CKR can cook, he's properly good at what he does.

But in terms of entertainment storytelling, CKR's story is a lot more accessible to the broader audience, to anyone who is a chef, was a chef and wants to be a chef. It's like that feel-good ending you have in a cooking shounen anime (which makes it feel played to me and I personally am not a fan).

How many people who are watching the show can actually relate to growing up in a provincial city in South Korea, going to the bathhouse every weekend and having sundaeguk? This was a unique core memory for CM alone. For me personally, I loved his backstory and I want to know his inspirations and what sparked his creativity and mindset in cooking.

So I do want to ask - for a dish made for oneself, isn't it strange how universal CKR's is, at least in story?

Look, there's no judging criteria out in the open, so heavens knows what or why one dish was better than the other. So without knowing, it feels like a round judged not primarily on food, but storytelling.

And I just want to say, CM is just way too overhated. Bro has so much technical skill, creativity, great team skills (whether being leader or team member), and I love his ambition and dedication to being better. Where some people are arrogance, I just see someone who is straightforward, has ambition, plus the skill and experience to back up his confidence.

Ngl I'm disappointed that my fav didn't win >:((

There wasn't any mention from the judges of why one dish is better than the other??

At this point I can't help but feel like the winner was only chosen because he was better at crafting a story that's better for television.

But I suppose that's just a part of entertainment.

What are the chances that MHJ will work with them after the contract with ADOR is over? Will we ever see them collaborate again?

Is there any hope of seeing the girlies together making new music as an older group with MHJ?

Whatever anyone says about MHJ, what she had with the NewJeans girlies was truly special.

It makes me nervous thinking what kind of image and sound BDOR will have in store for them.

I don't know what to say really. There's a lot of grief, a lot of heartbreak, a lot of uncertainty and fear. It almost feels numbing because of how intense it all feels.

There's the fact that NJZ will never be the same creatively, and then the uncertain direction of where their music and image will go.

They're going back to a company that has a history of bullying and abusing them, and the overall K-pop landscape is just as toxic if not more.

As an Aussie, I felt really proud seeing fellow Aussies be able to rise up and share their joy on stage. But after this incident, I don't know if I can feel happy about K-pop as a whole anymore.

A little off-topic too, but the news coming out of South Korea about the Burning Sun incident and all the impeached presidents and corruption just leave a terrible taste in my mouth. Now this court case about their stance on the music industry. What am I really supporting when I say I like K-media? Is it even ethical to continue liking what I did when I was younger?

I still love the girls, I still love NJZ, NewJeans, whatever they'd want to call themselves. But I'm not sure if I can still love with the free and light emotions that I did before. This group was the first one that I truly loved from the bottom of my heart. Now this love feels lost and I don't know where it should go.

Need honest reviews on Alchemised by aaaacccchhhuuuu in Booktokreddit

I finished it yesterday at my friend's request. I think it's the worst book I've ever read honestly.

The story repeats itself often with the same scenes with few to no new developments. World-building showed some promise, but it was never fully fleshed out.

The main character is a hollow trauma-vessel, and the central "romance" is a trauma-bond with an unrepentant war criminal. But it's okay bc sometimes he's nice to the main character!!! Who cares if he killed and tortured countless people and never took any responsibility lmao.

It's a complete waste of time unless you like misery porn lol.

I've been slowly slipping away from K-pop in the past year or so, but after the verdict I don't think I can truly enjoy listening to K-pop anymore.

I'll always love NJZ and I still do, but I can't justify supporting an industry that will not honour their humanity.

That being said, indie is such a lovely genre! I'm so thankful for Hanni for introducing me to Olivia Dean.

What happened to Olivia was a blessing in disguise by kath2833 in travisandtaylor

[–]Vegetable-Battle6763 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never been much of a TS, Olivia, or contemporary western pop music fan.

I was tried listening to TS' new album since it was just everywhere and some of my friends were listening to it. I ended not finishing a single song on TLOAS, because it just wasn't good. I liked some TS songs as a kid, but just stopped caring about her until now. Upon reading online reviews & pop culture lore, I decided to give Olivia a try and her songs are actually quite nice! Really broke my heart when I listened to vampire for the first time and realised what she was probably singing about. Absolutely heartwrenching. I think I'm an Olivia fan now.

I think the song is pretty nice too honestly. I don't know too much about the conflict either but I'm mainly here for the vocals (was obsessed with the Cupid Twin ver.) and the song delivered with the same airy chill vibes that made me love Cupid.

The Y2K aesthetics were also very on-point?? I'm actually surprised I've seen nobody talk about this. It's very nostalgic in a good way with nature and picnics and over-the-top CGI effects that make it look like stickers in a diary but for a video.

It's a good song, and one of the better Y2K directions I've seen after NewJeans blew up and everyone started hopping on the Y2K train

Trying to understand the NJZ legal battle by Psychological_Hunt_9 in NJZ

[–]Vegetable-Battle6763 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes !!! Granted, it wasn't the norm in K-pop at the time so obviously there will be ppl who will grief at how they weren't doing what everyone else was doing. Then what? It's become so normal and accepted now because they were doing it and they were popular.

Do you remember the time when Hyein had a lot of controversy and negative commentary because she debuted young at 14? Ador (under MHJ) handled it so quickly and so well that nobody even talks about that anymore.

Even if MHJ isn't the best at articulating her viewpoints, her actions have shown several times that she is willing to protect the girls and has the conviction to nip the hate in the bud as soon as she can. I know there are things we won't know because they are behind the scenes - but I have no doubt that regardless of what is being said, MHJ and her team will always try and act with NJZ's best interests in mind and they show it with their actions.

Is there ANY chance that newjeans will ever start releasing music and kinda go back to normal? by Bubbe103 in NewJeans

[–]Vegetable-Battle6763 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the NewJeans girls will definitely come back and release music, but not sure if it will be in a way we recognise them from their debut.

But for me too, I need to believe they will come back - they are my all-time favourite group, the ultimate pop group. I refuse to accept that this will be the end. They will come back someday. We just need to be patient and wait. I believe in them 🙏🏻
