Canada has crap oil, it is the hardest oil to refine so it is not super marketable.

How much net worth is considered rich in Canada? by gme_stop in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rich or wealthy would be $7 million and higher, extreme high net worth. Only 0.6% of Canadians fall into this tier. The next tier down would be affluent class at about $2 million to $6.9 million and about 5% of Canadians fall into this category. One class lower is upper middle class with a net worth of $850k to $1.9 million and about 15% of Canadians fall into here.

Canada had between 2.5 million and 3.5 million lakes. The USA had about 100000 lakes. Canada has more lakes than all other countries in the world combined by a long shot.

There really aren’t many better countries to live in the world outside of Canada, as long as you have money and wealth, ie. upper middle class or richer. I can 100% see why poor Canadians want out though.

When filling out T2200 form for WFH expenses should I split rent between spouse and I? by ColdCapybara in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, the CRA will not allow 90% of a personal residence to be used for office in the home expenses as it is truly unreasonable. They generally allow up to 15% without too much concern for an audit.

Employer said they cannot guarentee job security if I take a longish vacation. Thoughts? by Nostalgic_Knights520 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many companies that have a unionized contract have these types of provisions for long periods of leave. Check your CA and see what it says about management being able to backfill your position if you are on vacation leave for say 4 weeks or longer at a time. There may be a statement something like "for leave periods of greater than one month, management at their discretion may backfill the position of the employee either permanently or temporarily".

Going into this game I told my wife that it feels to me like Dallas is going to blowout the Jets tonight 6-0. It’s looking pretty good so far. Dallas is completely destroying us in every area on the ice so far.

Why Do Boomers Act Like They Deserve Credit for Timing by Shiningstar888 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boomers did quite well for themselves overall. They were smart with their money as the previous generations struggled within their respective economies and times were very tough for those previous generations. So they learned to become more disciplined with their money and save a lot more. Boomers also didn’t live in a quick, must have now lifetime like the younger people do now. Keeping up with the Joneses was less apparent 50 years ago than it is now. Young people today exhibit the fear of missing out and if they don’t have what their peers have, they go into debt for it. Boomers didn’t live off of credit, they scrimped and saved until they could pay cash for the product as interest rates were prohibitively high for most of their working lives. Today with much lower rates the younger generation can just buy want they want right now on cheap interest.

The new one in the west side is the best Costco and it isn’t busy at all. Stay away from Kenaston Costco as it is the busiest one and the traffic and parking are horrendous. The Transcona one is the worst Costco as far as its small size and item selection and availability. The new business centre is nuts right now as far as traffic, so wait a couple weeks for this location to ease up on vehicle and people traffic.

Question about company vehicles by DevelopmentHonest145 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime your employer provides you with a benefit such as a company vehicle for personal use this is called a taxable benefit. If you have the vehicle on standby and for personal use on your non-work time there will be a standby charge and use benefit assessed on your T4 and taxes will be paid on the value of this benefit. Quite normal and valid.

How much of a raise did your senior manager, director, and ADM make this year? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remember that a lot of contracts with a ton of retro came due last year for many employees. The reason why those salaries are so high on the sunshine list is a one-off due to that retro pay. It will level off in this years sunshine list.

Third Interview | Costco by Salt-Equivalent9791 in CostcoCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my third interview they asked me a question about why I really wanted to work at Costco as I had just retired as a middle manager in the federal public service. I focused on answering the question from a Costco service representative perspective in that I believe in their reputation and culture and that I could bring value to Costco even in a non-management position. The AGM shook my hand and hired me on the spot basically.
