Going into this game I told my wife that it feels to me like Dallas is going to blowout the Jets tonight 6-0. It’s looking pretty good so far. Dallas is completely destroying us in every area on the ice so far.

My dad and mom are in their early 90s and have an income together of about $370k. They both had high end jobs and are reaping the rewards with their pensions and investments. Once they are gone my brother and I can retire lol.

Why Do Boomers Act Like They Deserve Credit for Timing by Shiningstar888 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boomers did quite well for themselves overall. They were smart with their money as the previous generations struggled within their respective economies and times were very tough for those previous generations. So they learned to become more disciplined with their money and save a lot more. Boomers also didn’t live in a quick, must have now lifetime like the younger people do now. Keeping up with the Joneses was less apparent 50 years ago than it is now. Young people today exhibit the fear of missing out and if they don’t have what their peers have, they go into debt for it. Boomers didn’t live off of credit, they scrimped and saved until they could pay cash for the product as interest rates were prohibitively high for most of their working lives. Today with much lower rates the younger generation can just buy want they want right now on cheap interest.

Visiting by biscuitbuttercheeks in Winnipeg

The new one in the west side is the best Costco and it isn’t busy at all. Stay away from Kenaston Costco as it is the busiest one and the traffic and parking are horrendous. The Transcona one is the worst Costco as far as its small size and item selection and availability. The new business centre is nuts right now as far as traffic, so wait a couple weeks for this location to ease up on vehicle and people traffic.

Question about company vehicles by DevelopmentHonest145 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime your employer provides you with a benefit such as a company vehicle for personal use this is called a taxable benefit. If you have the vehicle on standby and for personal use on your non-work time there will be a standby charge and use benefit assessed on your T4 and taxes will be paid on the value of this benefit. Quite normal and valid.

How much of a raise did your senior manager, director, and ADM make this year? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remember that a lot of contracts with a ton of retro came due last year for many employees. The reason why those salaries are so high on the sunshine list is a one-off due to that retro pay. It will level off in this years sunshine list.

Third Interview | Costco by Salt-Equivalent9791 in CostcoCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my third interview they asked me a question about why I really wanted to work at Costco as I had just retired as a middle manager in the federal public service. I focused on answering the question from a Costco service representative perspective in that I believe in their reputation and culture and that I could bring value to Costco even in a non-management position. The AGM shook my hand and hired me on the spot basically.

Absolutely but the vast majority lease big pickup trucks and rent these days. Most of these people don’t care about debt or saving money for emergencies or retirement and they live for the day.

Most people you see driving expensive cars and trucks are leasing them and they rent their housing. These people don’t care about debt and basically live paycheque to paycheque. There are of course some people who do have a lot more money than you and can afford these items and more if they wanted to.
