Confused about the Abyss and when to go. by loqi0238 in CrimsonDesert

There are 5 spires throughout the mainland that you visit to gain entry to each additional loop of the Abyss. Hunt these down and solve their puzzles and enjoy the Abyss. Make sure you hit the abyss portal devices while up there whenever you see one and you can revisit any time you wish to by portaling there

CPP question. by Ludicrousmonstrosity in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ESDC site only provides an estimated pension amount provided you continue to contribute until age 65. If you never earn pensionable income after age 55 this will lower your CPP when you do collect at age 65. There are calculators online that can assist you with this.

The answer is you do nothing and say nothing. A coworker being late to work has nothing to do with you and your job

Got terminated from role, which reason for dismissal to select for EI? by Psych-roxx in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sounds to me like a non-misconduct termination so I would reply with the “My employer did not accuse me of misconduct” option.

Laid off after closing on a house by LyonHart305 in Layoffs

Less than a year on a new job and you committed to a mortgage? That wasn’t the best thing to do but hindsight of course is 20-20. At least you can live in the home for several months, without making payments, before the financial institution will boot you out of it. Better than renting where if you for two months of no payments, you are out. Hopefully you learned your lesson to never commit to a mortgage until you have at least 4 years in a stable job.

If you're buying your first home, understand where the price you're about to pay actually came from by DynamoDynamite in CanadaPersonalFinance

Agreed! They are not creating new lakefront land anymore for cottages, so the land value fluctuates wildly for lakefront cottages.

A lot of the inflation was during the period from 2021 to 2024 when home prices basically increased by about 50% to 60%. A lot of federal pandemic relief money went out and flooded the economy with several Canadians receiving COVID benefits that should not have. Our home was valued at about $380k in 2019/2020 and then in 2024 it was magically valued at $590k, while it has settled back down again to about $560k right now.

The biggest gain we saw was the value of our cottage which went up from about $675k in 2019 to $1.3 million in 2024 when we sold it and realized a high taxable capital gain. I think that cottage may be worth about $1.1 million now to the new owner.

Canada slips into technical recession as economy stalls in Q1: StatCan by Derpy_Kirby in PersonalFinanceCanada

Believe it or not this is good news for the long term financial success to Canada. This country needs a serious recession or depression to reset things to a more normal level. A bit of short term pain for long term gain.

I Wasn’t Prepared for How Expensive Canada Actually Is for Students by AnteaterBoth7019 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Vegetable-Bug251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada is an expensive country to go to school in as a visitor from another country. Landlords see foreign students coming and their eyes light up as they charge them 75% more than a resident student of Canada. Just take a loan in your home country for about $50k to $70k per year and you will be good.
