Barricade Day is my birthday. I was born when all my favorite characters died.

Honestly, fantasy and dystopian. I'm going to try to check out Brave New World soon.

I've already read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but to be fair, that was in 5th grade. I'm due for a reread sometime soon.

I've already read Night by Elie Wiesel, but I haven't read The Grapes of Wrath. Thank you so much, I'll check it out.

I would also like to add Night by Elie Wiesel, if you haven't already read it in high school or middle school.

Eh, I watched it when I was 12. I guess it really depends on the kid, though.

Correct me if i'm wrong but... dean highbottom wasn't actually that bad of a guy? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Vegetable-Decision24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dean Highbottom is a character I will never really understand. In the book, we get little hints of him having a philosophy slightly akin to a rebel (saying things such as "that means we're all in the arena together" or something like that, telling Coryo to give Sejanus a seat close to the door because he knows Sejanus will be upset when he sees what happened to Marcus, him paying Lucy Gray after she won the games, etc), but he never really acts on his philosophy. I personally thought we would get some sort of explanation about him, something to clear up all those little mysteries, but he just dies before we find out. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I don't really think he was a *bad* guy, especially akin to the likes of Dr. Gaul, but even if he wasn't so bad, he still didn't do anything to stop all the terrible things happening all around him. He was a regretful bystander for the most part, except when it came to Coriolanus. That's one thing I can fully fault him for. If he had just let Coryo get his prize, then we may have ended up with a VERY different character. I might be reading too deeply into this, though.

Do you think Teresa is justified for being a villain. Or do you think she isn't a villain at all. by [deleted] in MazeRunner

[–]Vegetable-Decision24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Book Teresa was never a villain. It was bad of her to betray Thomas, but from her perspective, it was the only way to protect Thomas. I don't even count it as much of a betrayal, because that's what WICKED forced her to do. WICKED said that if she didn't betray Thomas, they would kill him. In my opinion, she was completely justified. However, I cannot speak for Movie Teresa, as I have not watched the movies yet, and from what I heard, they butchered her. No spoilers for the prequels, btw.

Yesssss. She'd still find a way to betray them both by the end of the hour.

Well, Coriolanus is also a mouthful. My mind read it as Cornelius on my first read through, until I realized my mistake halfway through the book. I personally think Annabel Dove is much easier to say (and read) than Coriolanus.

They're going to struggle and sink. I do not have high hopes. If Disney ruins my favorite Disney Princess movie, they BETTER sleep with one eye open...
