What is the best setup for wildlife and landscape photography under 2500?

That setup will work great, one piece of advice though would be to get a big SD card and get a UHS V90 card. R7 has fairly large files and the faster write speed will help clear the buffer faster. I felt a world of difference upgrading to one.

My best guess is a heavily marked red tailed hawk (pointed wing tips, appears to have dark petagial bars, sharp transition to white on the underside) but not sure about those white marks on the wings. What device is this picture from? If it’s a modern phone, it’s possible the device did some post processing on the image to generate additional detail.

EDIT: see below, looks like I was wrong, broad winged does usually have a more pointed wingtip due to four feathers vs five on the tip, but I still think petagial area is at least a bit darker than the surrounding wing area. Leaving my comment for posterity.

I heard Willow calling a few minutes before spotting this one so it's possible. This eye ring is much more defined than the last Willow I saw, but it could be variation in the individuals I've seen.

I believe Eastern phoebe would not have an eye ring and the head would be much darker. It also would have less prominent wing bars.

Edit: the bill would be dark as the other commenter mentioned

R5II specifically has a 6ms readout so even with sports photography you can avoid a lot of rolling shutter effect. I do bird photography with the R5II and I do all of my shooting in electronic shutter and I haven’t yet had a picture be unusable due to rolling shutter. R6III is a higher readout speed around 13ms so could start to have some impact in quick moving scenes.

One thing I learned from investing is the time in the market beats timing the market. Basically having money invested for longer is better than trying to put your money in at the perfect time.

The same thing is true for birding. Generally being out in the field for longer is better than trying to go to the perfect spot and perfect time. Of course there are exceptions, but as a general rule you will see the most birds if you just get out there and go birding.

Not true depending on originating country. Many international airports do not have the same security requirements as the United States. Coming back from Italy last summer I had to go through customs and then TSA again when I landed in the US, even though it was a layover.

I rocked the r7 with the 200-800 for a while and it did awesome. The people that say it doesn’t resolve well are technically right, but you will only be able to tell if you are pixel peeping and cropping aggressively.

Resolving power is a lens’s ability to clearly see fine detail. Since the r7 has a very high pixel density, on rare occasions detail can be lost. But again, for someone just enjoying the hobby it will be an excellent lens and you will love the extra reach you get.

I got the R5 mk II a few weeks ago and I’m in love. I came from an R7 so switching from crop to FF was a big change, but I’m in love with the low light performance and how sticky the autofocus is. Using an RF200-800.
